CENTRAL OHIO WATERCOLOR SOCIETY The purpose of the Society is to further interest in, and status of, the use of transparent watercolor for the benefit of each member and for the development of public interest in the medium. Member Accomplishments: Jeri Platt recently received the "Jim Brower Family Award" at the Ohio Watercolor Society s Watercolor Ohio 2015. Sally Ford- Lyle won an "Award of Distinction". Rick Mock received Signature status as new active member. Several artists from COWS were also in the exhibition: Suzanne Accetta, Robert Bruce, Kevin Buckland, Sally Ford- Lyles, Jim Gerkin, Rick Mock, Ned Moore, Jeri Ellis Platt, Charles Rowland, and Judy Dillon Smith. Wyeth land and is wonderful for plein air painting. She also won an Honorable Mention at the OPAS competition, last weekend of Sept. Fran is very sorry to say she will miss the meetings and members since she returns to Fl. Monday, Oct. 5 and starts plein air competitions the following weekend. Stay strong with your painting. Vivian Ripley has a watercolor accepted into the Kentucky Watercolor Society Aqueous USA 2015, opening November 6. She will have three watercolors at the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild National Juried Show, which opens October 17 in Blue Ridge, GA. One work is a poured watercolor, one is a watercolor on gesso, and the third is a traditional transparent watercolor. This past summer Vivian taught a two- day watercolor workshop in southern Ontario, and a one- week watercolor workshop in West Virginia. She will give a pastel demonstration for the National League of American Pen Women on October 6. Jeri Platt is the featured artist at High Road Gallery for the months of October and November. The opening is Sunday, October 4, from 2-4 PM, but the gallery is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 4. Fran Mangino reports that at the end of July, she drove to Port Clyde, Maine to paint with Mary Erickson and 7 other artists. Port Clyde is COWS Newsletter page 1 Ronald Mlicki recently had one of his paintings accepted and then selected for The Ohio Watercolor Society s Road Show. Also, The Ohio Art Council selected one of Ron s paintings ("Brain Break") as part of the 2015-2017 Ohio State Governor's Office and Residence Loan Program. (it can be viewed on www.ronaldmlickifineart.com). Ron wanted to provide COWS with full disclosure about this

award, noting that it was for (gasp!) an oil painting, not watercolor. EDITOR S NOTE: your erstwhile COWS newsletter editor has seen fit to use the full power of his exalted position, and permit a hearty Congratulations! to Ron for his award, even if it does happen to be (2 nd gasp!) an oil painting. Kevin Buckland- from November 7, thru December 31, 2015, Kevin is having an exhibition with several COWS members at Sunbear Studio in Alexandrea, Ohio. COWS exhibiting members include: Charlie Rowland, Ned Moore, Bob Bruce and Kevin Buckland. Artists reception Saturday November 7, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. All invited! Kevin asked me to be sure and highlight this phrase, so here it is!) will have a joint art exhibit. The exhibit is from April thru May 2016, at The High Road Gallery in Worthington. Kevin will exhibit his watercolors and Pertain will have black & white works as well as acrylic paintings in the exhibit. Everyone is invited to the artists reception. More information to come.
