Model 4081 ph/orp Product Data Sheet PDS 71-4081P February 2000 Remote Controlled FOUNDATION Fieldbus Two-Wire ph/orp Transmitter REMOTE COMMUNICATION IS SIMPLE; use the hand-held infrared remote controller, DeltaV 1, or FOUNDATION 2 Fieldbus host. LARGE TWO LINE DISPLAY shows ph or ORP (mv) and temperature. SIMPLE, INTUITIVE menus make programming and calibrating easy. AUTOMATIC TWO-POINT BUFFER CALIBRATION reduces errors. SOLUTION TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION allows ph adjustment for actual ph changes with temperature. CONTINUOUS DIAGNOSTICS monitor sensor performance and warn the user of impending problems. ROBUST NEMA 4X and NEMA 7 ENCLOSURE protects the transmitter from harsh plant environments. INTRINSICALLY SAFE DESIGN allows the transmitter to be used in hazardous environments (with appropriate safety barriers). NON-VOLATILE EEPROM MEMORY retains program settings and calibration data during power failures. FEATURES REMOTE COMMUNICATIONS: Remote communications with the Model 4081 ph/orp transmitter is easy. The hand-held, push button infrared remote controller works from as far away as six feet. The transmitter also communicates via any FOUNDATION fieldbus host, such as the Fisher Rosemount DeltaV system. DISPLAY: The 0.8-inch high LCD main display means ph values are easy to read even at a distance. Temperature reading also appears in a 0.3 inch high display. MENUS: Menu formats for calibration and programming are simple and intuitive. Prompts guide the user through the basic procedures. Diagnostic and error messages appear in plain language. There are no annoying error codes to look up. CALIBRATION: Two-point, temperature-corrected buffer calibration is standard for ph and single point span for ORP. To reduce errors caused by impatient operators, the Model 4081 transmitter does not accept calibration data until programmed stability limits have been met. If data are not acceptable, the transmitter displays an error message and does not update the calibration. The transmitter recognizes buffer values commonly used in the world today. FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATIONS Calibrations/standardization: The automatic buffer recognition uses stored buffer values and their temperature curves for the most common buffer standards available worldwide. The transmitter also performs a stabilization check on the sensor in each buffer. A manual two-point calibration is made by immersing the sensor in two different buffer solutions and entering the ph values. The microprocessor automatically calculates the slope which is used for self-diagnostics. An error message will be displayed if the ph sensor is faulty. This slope can be read on the display and/or manually adjusted if desired. An on-line one-point process standardization is accomplished by entering the ph or ORP value of a grab sample. Power Supply and Load Requirements: A power supply voltage of 9 Vdc to 32 Vdc at 22 ma is required; Intrinsically Safe installations may be limited to a maximum of 2-3 transmitters per node, depending on the barrier used. Preamplifier Location: A preamplifier must be used to convert the high impedance ph electrode signal to a low impedance signal for transmitter use. The integral preamplifier of the Model 4081 ph may be used when the sensor to transmitter distance is less than 15 ft (4.5 m). Locate the preamplifier in the sensor or junction box for longer distances. Automatic Temperature Compensation: External 3 or 4 wire Pt 100 RTD, Pt 1000 RTD, or 3K Balco thermistor, located in the sensor, compensates the ph reading for temperature fluctuations. Compensation covers the range -15 to 130 C (5 to 270 F). Manual temperature compensation is also selectable. Accuracy: ±1 mv @ 25 C ±0.01 ph Repeatability: ±1 mv @ 25 C ±0.01 ph Stability: 0.25% / year @ 25 C Local Readout: LCD display may be set in one of three positions at 90 increments for optimum legibility independent of mounting. Main display is 4 digits, 20 mm (0.8 in.) tall. TRANSMITTER DISPLAY (Figure 1) The liquid crystal display (LCD) clearly provides valuable user information as follows: 6 1. Continuous ph or ORP display. 2. Process temperature (during normal process operation mode). 3. Options within sub-menus become visible when in each selected menu. 4. Selected menu becomes visible after the appropriate Menu key on the IRC is activated. 5. Hold is displayed when the analyzer is in hold, test or fault mode. Pressing the HOLD key on the IRC will place the transmitter in a hold mode. 6. Infrared Remote Control INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL FUNC- TIONS (Figure 2) All operating functions of the Model 4081 ph are accessed and activated through the hand-held Infrared Remote Control (IRC). 1. MENU KEYS: Allow access to calibrate, program and diagnose menus. 2. VARIABLE ENTRY KEYS: Allow the operator to enter data, move between sub-menus and edit. 3. EDITING KEYS: Allow navigation through the pre-programmed variables or editable digits. These arrow keys scroll across digit fields when entering numbers. 4. SPECIAL ENTRY KEYS: Hold key activation drives the reading to a preprogrammed level. Reset key activation aborts the current function and exits to the on-line process display mode. ORDERING INFORMATION The Model 4081 ph/orp two-wire microprocessor transmitter is housed in a NEMA 4X and NEMA 7 case. Communication with the transmitter is through a hand-held infrared remote controller, DeltaV or FOUNDATION Fieldbus host. Automatic temperature compensation is standard, and the transmitter includes solution temperature compensation for processes where ph changes with temperature. Continuous sensor diagnostics are standard.
