The American Society for Nondestructive Testing Central News & Meeting Announcement SECTION NEWS The Central held a meeting at ASNT Headquarter on Columbus, Ohio on 21 November. There were 10 members, guests and vendors in attendance. Mr. Luke Yoder, Regional Manager of FARO, gave a presentation on Coordinate measuring machines and 3D imaging devices to solve dimensional metrology problems, a brief overview of Coordinate measuring machines and 3D imaging devices by using LEASR...technology and an explanation about how CMMS works. CMMs Technology from FARO permits high-precision 3D measurement, imaging and comparison of parts and compound structures within production and quality assurance processes. The devices are used for inspecting components and assemblies, production planning, documenting large volume spaces or structures in 3D, and more. The system allows users to maximize efficiencies and improve processes in areas such as machining, forging, casting, molding, and assemblies. After presentation, Luke gave a live demo to inspect some samples and real time to scan Section Secretary Jing Ma s hand and reconstruction into a 3D model. After the presentation, Luke received a gift and certificate from Section Chair Brian Frye. The section would like to thank Luke for this informative and knowledgeable presentation. The vendor for the evening is FARO Inc. The section would like to thank this vendor for their continued support. Section Meeting Announcement November Meeting Plan to join the for a technical presentation on Microwave non-destructive examination (NDE) technology by Mr. Bob Stakenborghs, General Manager of Evisive, Inc.. Date: January16 th, 2013 Thursday 5:30pm 7:30pm Location: ASNT Offices, 1711 Arlingate Lane, Columbus, OH 43228 Cost: Free Microwave non-destructive examination (NDE) technology Featuring speaker Bob Stakenborghs Mr. Bob Stakenborghs is the General Manager of Evisive, Inc., located in Baton Rouge, La. Bob has a BSME from LSU in Baton Rouge, a MSME from Catholic University in Washington DC and he holds a Level III Inspector Certification in Microwave NDE from Evisive. Bob has been active in microwave NDE since the early 1990 s and has been with Evisive since its inception. He has been in Nuclear Power Plant Engineering since 1980 and is a registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in several states. Bob has written many technical papers on engineering and microwave inspection and is an active member of ASME, ASNT, ASTM, and the Society of Plastic Engineers. Evisive Microwave NDE Technology www.evisive.com The basics for the Evisive microwave non-destructive examination (NDE) technology was developed in the early 1990s and patented a decade later. This unique NDT method was initially developed to inspect dielectric materials such as rubber expansion joints and fiberglass reinforced piping. Once the method was patented, Evisive, Inc. was founded and has refined the equipment and methods into an advanced and proven specialty NDE technique. The Evisive microwave NDE technique has currently been applied as a field-proven method, to a wide range of dielectrics, including: reinforced rubber, HDPE butt and electro-fusion joints, other plastics, ceramics, organic and ceramic composites and other advanced materials. It is currently in use world-wide and is becoming the preferred NDE method for a wide range of dielectric materials. Evisive microwave inspection techniques are in the process of incorporation into ASNT and ASTM for inspection of a wide range of dielectric materials. Contact: If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Jing Ma, Central Secretary (jing.ma2009@gmail.com ) to make a reservation or for more information. All reservations are final on 1/15/2014.
