New Horizon Our HUB tree of HOPE E V E / H S E As part of HUB New Horizon s Feel Good Day 2014 all participants and staff designed a custom-made Christmas decoration. They are all proudly displayed on our tree of hope. We all also took the time to write a meaningful statement or thought on our personalised Christmas stars which we hope will be an inspiration to us all and others who visit our centre during this festive time. Merry Christmas and wishing you a Magical New Year, from all in HUB New Horizon. Special Edition Christmas 2014 Special points of interest: Hub tree of hope Christmas Shopping Coffee Dock launch Important dates Christmas in New horizons Over the past few weeks the centre has been very festive. We did a shoe box appeal for children from different countries. We also decorated the centre in Christmas decorations included six trees in different rooms with beautiful decoration and lights. This was Christmas Frolics a really enjoyable experience, we played xmas songs that got us in spirit of Christmas. We also had a Feel Good Day. I took part in relaxation, our leader filled the recreation room with nice candles and tranquil music it was very relaxing. After lunch we had an art class making decorations for the tree of hope. We made hearts and stars and Christmas boots. We also had a gold star each and wrote sayings of hope on them. When we were finished we hung them on the tree it looked beautiful. We have a new Coffee Dock now. I helped to do xmas icing on the cakes the girls made and we had a tea coffee afternoon to celebrate the opening and xmas nibbles was tasty and nice. Page 2 New Horizon New Horizon s Feel Good Day A walk in the park We went on a walk around Tymon Park as part of our feel good day. Seven of us made up of six participants and one staff member drove to Tymon park in the people carrier. We saw rabbits and squirrels and in the pond there was ducks and swans. Then as we walked back to the people carrier jenny was attacked by a swan and jenny had to run away from the swan. It was a bit of a laugh at the time. There were three groups and I went in Jenny s group and it took us fifty five minutes to walk around the park. There were a lot of people out walking and jogging in the park. Relaxation The relaxation session we had was brilliant. As I opened the door there were mats on the floor accompanied by a blanket and pillow in a very warm room lit by candle light and our Christmas Tree. As I lay down on the mat and covered myself with a blanket the relaxing music was turned on. The room was so warm and relaxing that I nearly fell asleep, to be honest I could have. Don t let this star point the way or you will be going in 5 different directions Christmas Craft As part of our Feel-Good day, we enjoyed a crafty art session where we made sequined Christmas tree decorations. We pinned sequins to foam shapes like stars, Santa boots, hearts and angels. The art session was relaxing and felt very festive with Christmas music playing in the background while we pinned away. We had lots of different coloured sequins to choose from so each decoration really looked unique; of course they all looked sparkly and fabulous! We then hung them on our tree of hope at the reception of the centre and we added star shaped paper decorations with inspiring messages of hope written on them.

Special Edition Page 3 Christmas Shoe Box Appeal We do the shoe box appeal every year around Christmas. It s for children from different countries who don t receive presents at Christmas. Every child should experience the joy of getting presents. You pick an age group and either a boy or a girl. You spend 5 on that child. We all got involved in it either by wrapping the shoe boxes or going shopping to fill the boxes with toys and clothes. We filled 13 boxes and brought them down to social welfare office. It was a great experience as knowing that the children will have something at Christmas. Christmas Shopping trip into town We had arranged to meet up under Clerys Clock at 9.30am. We all headed down to Ann s Bakery on Mary s street where we all had breakfast. After that we headed on our own way to do some Christmas shopping and it was really fantastic listening to Christmas music in every shop and seeing the decorations displayed. We met up outside the Jervis Shopping Centre entrance at 12.30pm. We broke into our groups and headed for something to eat. After lunch some people decided to head down to St. Stephens Green to the Christmas markets where they enjoyed the Christmas atmosphere and the food and drink that was on offer. Special Edition Page 5 Our New Coffee Dock We got a coffee dock a year before its time. One Monday morning g a few weeks back there was a knock on the door and it was the builders and they were here to start the job. It was great they gave us a variety of samples of everything and we got to make all the choices. We had a say in everything colour schemes, tiles, floors. They were very efficient they were in and out within 8 days, it looks fabulous, it s like the kitchen we d all love to have at home. It will make a lovely place for us all to spend time and be part of small cookery groups in. Although we are still waiting on some of the smaller equipment to arrive in the new year before we can use the coffee dock fully we decided to celebrate the lovely room with a small launch with just the participants and staff. This was held on Thursday 4 th December, in our very interesting, brand new coffee dock. We had mince pies, stolen and biscotti to accompany our tea & coffee. The lovely treats were home made in the new coffee dock by Caroline & Roisin in a small cookery group the day before. Well done to them both as they were gorgeous. They room is very spacious and could accommodate all of us, it was lit with soft lighting and Christmas lights. Every seemed happy & content. It will be launched officially in Febuary 2015 as it will be fully ready for use. All staff & participants will receive training between now and then so that we can run it to a really high standard and keep it looking lovely.
