I DIG IT NEWS AUSTIN METAL DETECTING CLUB (Since 1963) 111 Live Oak Drive, Wimberley, TX 78676 Membership: $20.00 * * * August 2016 Meeting Information: Place - Woodlawn Baptist Church 4600 Manchaca Date August 11, 2016 2 nd Thursday of each month Time - 7:00 pm Room Change A-101 Officers: President Dennis Gans 512-944-8929 Vice Pres Josh Graham Treasurer Larry Vickers 512-243- 1831 Secretary Mary Prause Newsletter Blaine Nelson 512-722- 3148 punkin4048@aol.com Executive Committee: Mike Stafford, Leon Prause Daniel and Susie Mireles, Ed Newsom A Word from our President: It s August and it s hot out there. In fact, that s why my wife and I are going to Colorado. I ll be sure to think about y all back here sweltering in the heat. With the high temperatures in August, everyone needs to take care and be sure to keep hydrated when outside. Hydration should begin a couple hours before going out. Water is probably best, since drinks like sodas tend to cause dehydration. See y all at the meeting. Your President, Dennis Gans 2016 Dues are $20. If you write a check make it to Larry Vickers, as we do not have a DBA.

August Meeting Our program for this month will cover the topic of Getting Permission to Detect Private Sites. Many of us are a bit chicken to go ask permission, but being able to detect on private lands, particularly older properties, is more and more the key to successful detecting. This program is in the process of being confirmed at the writing of the newsletter. We will have our Find of the Month competition featuring items found since the July meeting. The FOM form is the last page of this newsletter, and copies will be available at the meeting. Reminder Josh Graham will be collecting recyclables, so bring any you have been saving. AMDC is on Face Book! Be sure and check out and Like the Group Executive Meeting Our meetings are the first Thursdays of most months, at 6:00. We will meet at the Bill Miller s at 709 E. Ben White (right at I-35). All are welcome at any Board meetings. We usually come early to visit and grab a bite; the meeting begins at 6:00. July Club Hunt The Club Hunt was held on Saturday, July 30 at Old Settler s Park in Round Rock. A variety of coins and items were found, including an old token! We will undoubtedly see other items on the Finds table. Many thanks to Josh and Ed for arranging another great club hunt!

Lost and Found Efforts Since the last newsletter we have the following activity to report for our Search Team: Mary went out to search for a ring in a yard in Round Rock. The ring had been lost a year ago, and after a good (hot) try, Mary had no luck. Fred and his wife Jeanne also tried this search, and also came up empty handed. On a positive note, Dennis went out to search for a gold wedding band in his neighborhood in Lakeway. The owner had been on the porch and in the yard when a yellow jacket flew at his face. In the process of flicking the yellow jacket away, his ring flew off. The owner thought it had gone forward, but Dennis actually found the ring on the porch, up against patio furniture. Good job! We had a request to search for a micro flash drive in a yard. Before we could get out, the owner located the drive. There is a pending request to search for a watch that was lost (thrown) into a large retention pond 2 years ago by an angry ex-wife. Paul, Fred and Jim tried for about 3 hours for a second search, with no luck. The owner finally got his ex-wife to describe where she threw the watch in, so the team will search again in that specific area. The request to search in an attic for a sentimental item (a rifle) between rafters and under insulation is pending. Mitch and Dennis will go out and give it a try sometime in September. Many thanks to those who serve on these searches. It takes a lot of time and effort to go out, but it is always appreciated even when the item(s) are not located. FOR SALE Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector - $125. (Used). See Daniel Mireles. He will also include bag and accessories. If you have items you would like to list for sale, email Blaine at Punkin4048@aol.com

AMDC Website Remember to check our web site often to see what s there! Our web site is: http://www.amdconline.com Newsletter Contest! We continue our drawing for a prize at the meetings. If you can answer the mystery question correctly taken from information in the newsletter, your name may be drawn. Good luck! RESOURCE: Mark Orwig is the editor at smarterhobby.com. He just published a guide to responsible metal detecting that he thought might be of interest to our club. In checking the guide it is most helpful, and includes a list of State Park detecting rules by state. Take a look! http://www.smarterhobby.com/metaldetecting/responsible-metal-detecting/ REMINDER: At the end of the meeting, be sure and pick up the FINDS you entered in Find of the Month. Leave your sheet with Susie, or you will not get points! Also, make sure you are picking up your item and not someone else s.
