PREZ SEZ DE WA1MBA Well, its November, and the leaves are blowing off the trees. Besides the arrival of cold weather and long nights, this makes me think of winter projects and getting the tower equipment ready for the January contest. After attending Microwave Update in Dallas last month, I am setting my sights on getting my portable station together this winter so that I will be ready for testing and contesting next summer. Speaking of Microwave Update - it continues to be a big success. Paul W1GHZ and I made the trek to Dallas/Ft. Worth, and had a blast. I hope that we will have a chance to recollect the highlights at our meeting. We have had some good items go at our duct tape auctions for very good prices. Let's keep it up - get some of those unwanted beasts out of the cellar and put some interesting thing along with it that you don't really need. Our talk this meeting is from Sigurd, KJ1K on Rover Evolution. Sigurd has acquired some experiences that he will be sharing - and I am looking forward to this one. I hope to be building a rover for next year myself, and I would rather not repeat any mistakes. I look forward to seeing you on the 13th in Enfield. 73s Tom SECRETARY'S REPORT OF THE NEWS GROUP MEETING OF 25 SEPT 2004. With 24 members and guests in attendance, President, Tom Williams, opened the meeting at 1:10 PM. There was no Old Business. New Business: The Big E needs operators for the ham booth. Ron Klimas, WZ1V reminded us that the 31st annual Eastern VHF-UHF Conference will be coming up in mid-april of 2005. The conference chairman is looking for speakers and papers. Please contact conference Chairman Bruce Wood, N2LIV. Al Koepke, K1JCL, has a 10GHz beacon on in FN31tt, Coventry, CT. Numerous members have heard it during the recent contest. With it's location on a tall tower, about 20 miles east of Hartford, the beacon will likely be heard down the coast when conditions are enhanced. The frequency has been reported to be around 10368.020 and sends a very slow CW ID. The Duct Tape Auction was held. Several members offered items which Tom auctioned off. Then we took a break at 1:40 PM. When the group reassembled at 2:00 PM, we were ready for the main program of the afternoon. Mike, N1JEZ presented a well organized and thorough pictorial description of the new Oscar 51 satellite. He covered the building, launching and operation of the amateur space station. Thanks go to Mike for his very informative presentation. After Mike's presentation, Burt, N2YYU, showed a very nice 10GHZ slot antenna that he has machined from 3/4" type M copper pipe. He went over the construction design and discussed radiation patterns. The next meeting is Nov 13th at the Enfield Radisson. The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 PM. Respectfully submitted by Mark Casey, K1MAP, sitting in for Secretary, Paul Wade, W1GHZ, who was not able to attend this meeting. 6 METER FALL SPRINT DE K1UHF I had a good time operating for about two hours.
