Volume 13 Issue 5 An Affiliate of the Society of Decorative Painters May 2016 From your President Dear Ladies, I hope you have signed up for Nancy's class on May 7th. If not, get in touch with Lana. Today, April 19th, eleven of us met at Nancy's to plan for the "Mad Hatter's Luncheon and Auction. A lot was discussed and decided on. We are shooting for March 25th, 2017. This will be if Halifax has that date open. Ladies volunteered for many items to be in charge of and they will need you Ladies to help. List below are the volunteers: Lana is baskets, Jane is auction paddles, Lee is "featured item," Nancy, Mary Lou, Noreen will be auction items, Judy and Mary Lou boutique table, Georgia will do tickets, name tags and programs, Anita publicity. We will have a year to get it accomplished. That is a lot longer than we had this year. We plan to sell the tickets at the same amount as this year, $20. At the meeting on May 7th, I will hand out certificates to those who have earned them for working on the auction this year. I am so grateful to Mary Lou who volunteered to be "Ways and Means" Chairperson. Thank you Mary Lou. Lee is writing procedures for addition of the Bylaws and Standing Rules. Also, explanation of the Compassion Fund with Nancy as Chairperson. Scholarship Fund will be Chaired by Jan, Ruth and Jorjann. Take care and stay healthy and keep painting. Judy 1

Everyone had so much fun painting with Roseann. The Seagals were so cute! Our May 7 th class with Nancy Walsh is the pineapple welcome sign. I have a picture of Nancy s prepped piece and will email to those who sign up for the class. So far those who have signed up for Nancy s class are Jan N., Anita P., Lee F., Jane V.B., Judy H., Lana R., Mercedes P., Mary Lou P., Karen R., Judy B., Georgia S. and Ruth M. I still have three of the oval wooden surfaces at $3.50 each. Please send me your signup sheets for the June 4 th Chickadee on a palette class with Alise Duerr. Everyone always enjoys Alise s classes. We will be painting with acrylic paint on paper that will be provided by Alise. Anita P., Mary Lou P., Barbara B. and Nancy W. have signed up this class. I believe everyone knows that we cancelled the Mark Menendez oil painting class on July 9 th and have substituted a colored pencil portrait class with Mark. I emailed out information about the class, which has suggestions for choosing a photo and includes the colored pencils needed for the portrait class. We have 18 signed up for the portrait class. The Sunday, July 10 th class will remain the same majestic lion done in colored pencils. We have 15 signed up for the majestic lion class so far. Both of these classes have a maximum of 24 students, so please get me your signup sheets to me soon. 1 st Vice President/Seminar Chair 2

The skills to be taught are capturing a likeness; layering vibrant, dramatic flesh tones; developing the features of the face; creating realistic eyes; and rendering the hair. Skills to be taught are capturing fur and the flowing mane; how to capture the glass-like quality in the eyes; achieving maximum impact using a monochromatic palette. Chapter Meeting April 2, 2016 Meeting called to order at 9:00 AM by Judy Beuchert, President. Officers Present: Judy Beuchert,, Ruth McDonald, Lee Fasnacht, Georgia Strein. Secretary s Report There was no report in the newsletter because of the Earline Padgett seminar. Treasurer s Report: Ruth reported an account balance of $ 5,414.32 including reserves for the Compassion Fund and the Scholarship Fund. The Storage Unit fee is going up to $62.00 a month and she suggested we check rates at new storage unit being built. She also reported that the Post Office box is closed. It was only being used to receive bank statements. 1 st Vice President: Lana had sign up sheets for the July seminar and workshops. She showed pictures of the workshops Nancy Walsh is teaching. Lana will get June prep sheets from Alise Duerr. There was a discussion about changing Mark Menendez oil class to Color Pencil Portrait class. Lee made a motion we do the portrait and Jane Van Buren seconded it. A majority of members present agreed. Ruth suggested a bigger deposit be made to seminar teachers. 2 nd Vice-President: Lee Fasnacht reported that we have 29 paid members for 2016. Newsletter Editor & Web Site: Jan Nichols stated that members are invited to submit articles, recipes etc. for the newsletter and they will be included depending on space available. Ways & Means: Lee stated that we need items for the raffle. There was no raffle today. Mary Lou will take over and Lee will show her the storage unit. Kids R First: The chapter will provide boxes for members to paint. Publicity: Anita Peale - Absent. Historian: Judy & Lana will work on the scrapbook. Sunshine: Jan Nichols taking over while Roseann on leave of absence. Hospitality: It was suggested that members take turns taking home the container with paper plates, napkins etc. 6
