Research Engineer in Building Energy System Applicants are invited for a Research Engineer position to participate in a Building Energy Efficiency project. Systematic characterizing studies will be carried out to investigate the performance of a desiccant/nano-woven membrane air dehumidification system. Applicants should possess a Bachelors or Masters degree in the area of Engineering or Science, with a good background in Energy System. Prior experience with transport phenomena related to cooling systems will be an added advantage. Ability to work independently, good team-working and communication skills are essential. Research Engineers on 3 year NUS/FoE Research Projects Position 1: Radial Mirror Energy Electron Spectrometers The candidate is to be a Research Engineer on a 3 year MOE Tier 2 Research project that will start on 1 st August 2012. The project involves making and testing various electron energy spectrometer designs which have been designed and filed for patent by Assoc. Prof. Khursheed (H. Q. Hoang and A. Khursheed, Nucl. Instrum. and Meth. in Physics Research A 635 (2011) 64-68, and A. Khursheed et al, J. of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena 184 (2012) 525-532). The project is mainly experimental in nature, and involves working with electron beam columns, vacuum chambers, and electron detectors such as channeltrons. The position is suitable for either applied physics or electrical engineering graduates who have an interest in electron microscopes/electron spectrometers. The candidate will be required to take an interest and learn the basic principles of electron optics and electron spectrometers, and learn how to use electron optics/field solving simulation programs. It is possible to combine the research engineer position with doing a part-time PHD. Position 2: Magnet Field simulation for MRI The candidate is to be a Research Engineer on a 3 year AcRF Tier 1 FRC Level/NUS Research Grant which will start in August to December 2012. The project involves running 3D magnetic field simulation programs for Magnetic Resonance Imaging applications. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the company, EchoMRI, who have recently setup in Singapore. The project involves magnetic field mathematical modeling/numerical simulation techniques, and is suitable for physics, electrical engineering or applied mathematics graduates. New magnet layouts to achieve quantitative MRI will be explored. The candidate must have a strong mathematical background.
