Some News and Notes From ICC Vice President Michael White Hello fellow Indianapolis Coin Club members. Due to time constraints and some transitions that are being made there isn t an article for the Planchet this month. I hope you re not too disappointed, but we DO have some interesting information to share with you instead, so here it is: The Planchet has a new Editor! I am very pleased to announce to the I.C.C. membership that we have a new Editor for the monthly newsletter. Id like to thank I.C.C. member Andy Nohrwold for stepping up and taking on the position of Editor of The Planchet. Andy took it upon himself to learn Microsoft Publisher so that he can edit the newsletter each month from now on. He put together the body of this months newsletter (minus this page) and did just fine with virtually no help from me. Due to our busy schedules we had no time to put together an article for this month but they will resume in the October issue of The Planchet. Indianapolis Coin Club 75th Anniversary medals Vinton Dove has informed us that he will have pricing and availability information on the 2014 Indianapolis Coin Club 75th Anniversary medals to share with us at this months meeting on Monday. Initially it is our intent to produce at least 50 silver medals (.999 silver @ 1+ troy ounce) as well as 150 bronze/brass medals. It is important to note that they must be pre-ordered and pre-paid at our October meeting. If you are interested in obtaining one or more of these medals you should make sure you attend our September meeting this Monday the 23rd to learn what is available and then also attend the October meeting (October 28th) prepared to pay for your items so they can be ordered. If you cannot attend and would like information please contact Vinton Dove at vdove43@att.net, Dave Reid at dcrcoinman@aol.com, or Michael White at h_d_mike@att.net or (317) 446-1411. Annual State of The Hobby address One final note; please notice that we ve made a change in the Educational Program calendar to make everything work for our members schedules. Mark Eberhardts annual State of the Hobby address will be next month instead of November. This is always a popular talk given by Mark so you ll not want to miss it. For those of you who haven t had the pleasure of enjoying this program, it s an update on the real world trends in the numismatic world as seen through the eyes of someone who makes their living by learning and understanding these trends. There s always some great information from Mark so please don t miss it and you may want to take notes! (A complete schedule of the 2013 Educational Programs is on the last page of this newsletter.) That s all for now so I hope to see you all at our meeting on Monday! Michael White
August 26, 2013 - Minutes of the Indianapolis Coin Club Meeting. Open The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Club President, Donn Wray. 39 people signed the attendance book. We met at the Northside Knights of Columbus Hall, 2100 East 71 st St. The Secretary s report was read and accepted and the Treasurer s report was accepted as published in the Planchet. Old Business None. New Business Board Member, Jim Warden announced that the Board had decided to allow cut bids if accepted by the auctioneer. ICC member, Shannon Spears, donated a 2013-S Kennedy Half Dollar, PCGS graded PR-69 DCAM as the door prize. ICC Vice President, Mike White, reminded the members that Exhibit Night was the program for the September meeting. If any member will need a display case, they should notify Mike, Mark Eberhardt, Vinton Dove or Donn Wray before the meeting. Mike also announced that those members volunteering to assist the ISNA in setting up for the ISNA show should meet at the storage facility around 3:30 PM, since the Marriott will not allow ISNA to set up prior to 4:30 PM on Wednesday, October 29. The Secretary gave a report on his experiences at the ANA Money Show. He said he viewed an 1804 Silver Dollar and a 1913 V Nickel in an exhibit. Also, he reported that Jeff Berkovitz received a Blue Ribbon and a medal for first place for his exhibit of Indiana Medals. The Educational Program Bob Julian and Dave Colford of the Logansport Coin Club gave the program for the evening. Bob gave a True/False quiz which contained several tricky questions. He then commented on his inability to get the US Government to allow him to view certain Mint records, even though he had been given written permission to view them, and how he was denied his legal right to view records under the Freedom of Information Act. The membership could sense his frustration. The program was well received and enjoyed by the membership. Visitors Jack Conroy, who was a member of the Club many years ago, reported that he was still collecting Irish coins, and had silver for sale. Also, he said his father is still a coin and currency collector. Paula Phelan and Joe Jankowski were only other visitors. After the Break, the 50/50 Drawing was run by Bob Bettcher and won by Shannon Spears. The Door Prize was awarded to Richard Kinnett. Auction Joe Boling ran the auction. Assisting were Michael White, Bob Bettcher and Vinton Dove. The meeting was Adjourned at 8:42 PM. Respectfully submitted, Vinton Dove, Secretary

The prize each month will be a 90% silver U.S. Half Dollar (or equivalent 90% silver content coin) The I.C.C. You'll find the monthly prize sponsor listed below each monthly meeting date above. You'll just have to show up to see what you may win! Please keep this in mind each month; regardless of who is giving the monthly program and/or the topic, we owe it to that person and the membership to remain quiet and pay attention during the program. It s important that we respect the knowledge that is being shared with us as well as the time and effort the speaker is donating to our club. The same rules should apply to our monthly auctions; please remain quiet and pay attention. Thank you.
