Last month we had a wonderful 55th Anniversary celebration and it was great to see everyone come out and have fun. I was also very surprised and honored to have our ANA President, Walt Ostromecki, present our club with a certificate and also present me with a special honor. Read more on last month s meeting on Page 6. We had a wonderful turnout last month with 20 members participating in show & tell and well over 100 auction items. However, that caused our meeting to run quite late. Accordingly, we will now be starting our meetings a little earlier at 7:00 p.m. and we also ask members to limit their show & tell to about one minute. A Brief History of German Coins A complete history of German Coins would not be possible cover during a single program and would probably not even be possible to cover in a full year s worth of programs. Most collectors of World coins will already know that the books on German coins are massive as there is a long history and a wide variety of coins that have been issued. Carey Hauser will be presenting a brief history of German coins which will focus on some of the areas that interest him the most. The discussion will also cover how early German coin planchets were cast. We are again excited to have one of our members (and dealer at our annual coin shows) step up and present a topic of their expertise. We hope that you will also find the program interesting. 5 National Coin Week... The 91st annual National Coin Week is being celebrated April 20-26, 2014 with the theme Coin & Country: Celebrating Civic Service. The theme honors the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Half Dollar, President John F. Kennedy's famous call to service to ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" and the role of money in celebrating civic pride and engagement. The ANA is holding a member volunteer challenge where members are encouraged to volunteer in their communities and document their experiences for prizes. See the ANA s website at for more details if you wish to participate Red Books... Page 5 The 2015 Guide Book of United States Coins ( Red Books ) will be available in April. The Glendale Coin Club has preordered a case of new Red Books at a discounted price. If you would like a new 2015 Red Book, we will have them in both Spiral bound and Hardcover editions for only $10 each! We expect to have them in hand at our meeting this month. For reference, the suggested retail prices of the Spiral Bound and Hardcover 2015 Red Books are $14.95 and $16.95, respectively. Purchase your copy or copies at the April meeting and they are available on a first come first served basis!

Special thanks to ANA President Walt Ostromecki for presenting the Glendale Coin Club a certificate to mark the occasion (image below). Thanks to Greg Burns as well for bringing the cake! NASC Secretary Harold Katzman also attended our anniversary celebration and gave our the first look at the 2014 NASC Gold Drawing prizes! We were also the first club to receive the 2014 NASC Gold Drawing tickets for the August drawing. Tickets will be available at our April meeting and remember that half of the proceeds are retained by our club. Finally, Walt Ostromecki also surprised and honored our club President Michael Kittle with the American Numismatic Association Presidential Award (see photos below). What a great meeting, thanks again!
