SPEAKERS PROFILE Dato Dr. Jacob Thomas Medical Doctor and President of Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia. Dato Dr. Jacob Thomas was a Board Member since 1997 and was also its Honorary Secretary from 1999 to 2004. He has vast experience in hospital management, after serving in various capacities at Sime Darby Medical Centre (SDMC) [formerly known as Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC)] since 1985 and finally as the Executive Director/CEO of SDMC from 1998 till 2006. He is currently the Group Medical Advisor of Sime Darby Healthcare under Sime Darby Group. SDMC is reputed for its quality and service excellence, having achieved numerous national and international certifications and awards which include the Prime Minister Quality Award in 1998 and 2003, and the inaugural International Asia Pacific Quality Award in 2000. Dato Dr. Jacob Thomas is also a member of the Consultative Panel of Healthcare sector of the National Productivity Corporation (NPC) which promotes inter-hospital benchmarking among the major private hospitals in Malaysia. He also serves as a Councilor and Board member of the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH). He has spoken regularly at numerous conferences and seminars both locally and internationally promoting Malaysia as a preferred healthcare destination. Ms Hanisah Hamzah Partner in ARSA Lawyers, Kuala Lumpur office and Head of Banking and Conveyancing Department. Ms. Hanisah graduated from University Technology Mara in 1996 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1997. She was previously practicing with a law firm, Messrs Nik Saghir & Ismail in Johor Bahru and later joined ARSA Lawyers in Kuala Lumpur in 2001. She was a litigation lawyer in the High Court of Malaya during early years of her practice. She now manages numerous portfolios of financial institutions and has significant experience in corporate banking. Ms. Hanisah has represented local and foreign lenders as Malaysian legal counsel in advisory and transactional roles for various domestic and cross-border projects financing in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and England. She had also attended to legal documentation for air craft leasing and ship financing which involved jurisdictions outside Malaysia. At ARSA Lawyers, her duties also included knowledge management and business development which led to ARSA Lawyers obtaining the international accreditation for Quality Management System Certification of ISO 9001:2008 recently. In August 2007, she presented a talk on Cross Border Financing and its Enforcement to foreign delegates in the Legal Program of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) 2007 organised by Malaysian Professional Services Development Corporation (PSDC) under the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister Department. She is currently managing the domestic and international Branding exercise for ARSA Lawyers and helps the firm to lead initiatives to promote and develop the legal services abroad.
SPEAKERS PROFILE Mr. Arthur Law Qualified Chartered Accountant, Law & Associates Mr. Law qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978, gained his initial experience with international accounting firms both in Australia and Malaysia. Whilst with the international accounting firms, he was involved in rendering professional services for a number of international and public listed companies as well as for small to medium privately held and owner managed businesses. Mr. Law has been involved in all aspects of professional practice including audit, receivership, liquidation, special consulting and investigative assignments, corporate restructuring exercise of a wide range of companies. In his area of practice, Mr. Law has offices in Kuala Lumpur and Phnom Penh. He also contributes to the professional development of the accounting standards and practice as a member of the Quality Control Committee of the Kampuchea Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditors (KICPAA). Mr. K. Sri Kandan Chairman of KPK Group of Companies, Fellow of the Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. Mr. Kandan is a well recognized consultant in cost and contract management in the Construction Industry in Malaysia and the region. A quantity surveyor by training and the Chairman of KPK Group, he is now operating in eight countries in the Asia Pacific region Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and United Arab Emirates. He is also jointly responsible for formulating policies, strategies and overall governance of the group. With more than 30 years experience in cost engineering and contract management of many large and prestigious projects, he brings with him a wealth of practical knowledge and first-hand project experience. A selection of recent major projects under his portfolio include the KLCC Exhibition & Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur; Prince Court Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur; Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Perak; Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology, Kedah; Palace of Justice, Putrajaya; 45-Storey Maju Junction, Kuala Lumpur; MAS Facilities, Sepang, Selangor; Shah Alam Stadium, Selangor; Shah Alam Town Centre, Selangor and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Phase 2). SPEAKERS PROFILE Dr. Ken Yeang Principal Llewelyn Davies Yeang (UK) and Hamzah & Yeang (Malaysia). Dr. Ken is an architect-planner, ecologist and author who is best known for his signature and innovative green buildings and masterplans. He is regarded as one of the foremost designers and noted authority on ecologically-responsive architecture and planning. He has authored several books on ecological design and tall building design. His latest is, Ecodesign : Manual for Ecological Design, published by John Wiley & Sons (UK). He has pioneered the passive low-energy design of tall buildings, which he calls the 'bioclimatic skyscraper'. He has received numerous awards for his work and designs that include the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, RAIA International Award, Prinz Claus Award, UIA August Perret Award. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, past Chairman of ARCASIA and has served on the Royal Institute of Architects Council. He is the distinguished Plym Professor at the University of Illinois and Adjunct Professors at the University of Hawaii and University of Malaya. Dr. Ken key built works include the Mesiniaga Tower (Malaysia), National Library (Singapore) and Great Ormond Street Hospital Extension (UK). Dato Ir. Dr Dennis Ganendra Director of Minconsult Sdn Bhd & Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd and Chairman of Lidar Services International Inc. of Canada. Dato Ir. Dr. Dennis Ganendra obtained his Bachelors of Arts degree in engineering from Cambridge University in 1987 where he was awarded both a Cambridge University open scholarship and a Queen s Jubilee scholarship from the Institute of Civil Engineers (U.K.). After a short spell working in Malaysia, Dato Ir. Dr. Dennis pursued his Master of Science degree in soil mechanics at Imperial College, United Kingdom where he graduated with a Distinction. He then join Imperial College as a research assistant and completed his doctorate on Finite Element Analysis of Laterally of Loaded Piles in 1994. Dato Ir. Dr. Dennis has published numerous papers in international journals and presented at many international conferences. Besides being the Director of Minconsult Sdn Bhd, one of the largest multi disciplinary engineering consultancies in Malaysia, he is also the Project Director on a large number of prestigious Malaysian and international projects covering a wide scope of works including: highways, ports, airports, railways, power plants, petro-chemical plants, industrial plants, high rise buildings, water treatment plants and sewerage treatment plants. He is currently working to establish Minconsult Sdn Bhd as a major engineering force in the international arena, having secured projects in Afghanistan, Antigua, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia. Dato Ir. Dr. Dennis is the Director of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd and the Chairman of Lidar Services International Inc. of Canada. Both companies involve in state-of-the-art Airborne Laser Survey Services and using high-tech digital video geographic systems, these companies have successfully undertaken projects in Asia, Europe and North America.
