CAMP CARD LEADER S GUIDE EVANGELINE AREA COUNCIL 2018

HELP SCOUTS EARN THEIR WAY TO CAMP! Evangeline Area Council is pleased to announce the return of the Camp Card. This initiative is designed to help Scouts earn their way to a summer/day camp program. Units participating in this program will earn up to 50% commission ($5.00) on each $10 Camp Card they sell (see Camp Card Timeline). The cards will be available for pickup at the Camp Card Kickoff/ Distribution at the Knight Scout Service Center on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:30 pm. The sale will begin on March 1, 2018 and will end on April 30, 2018 giving units 8 weeks to sell and close out their accounts. This program is RISK FREE, simply return any unsold cards. COMMUNITY PARTNERS DICK S Sporting Goods/Field & Stream, Stine, Tiger Island, Family Dollar, Papa John s, & Piggly Wiggly have offered generous one-time discounts that make the sale of this card a no-brainer. Several more community partners have offered discounts that are year round, including Walk-On s, Kart Ranch, Sky Zone, Freedom Oil Change & Car Wash, Smoothie King, Shop Rite & Tobacco Plus, Delta World Tire, Sonic, Chili s, and Romacelli. The Evangeline Area Council has 2 Camp Card versions that are specific to each area. Take advantage of these partnerships to help your Scouts get to camp! ENROLLMENT Units are asked to enroll by Monday, February 26th to insure their supply of cards are ready to be picked up at the Kickoff on Tuesday, February 27th. This allows the unit time to get the cards out, its sale underway, and Scouts to take full advantage of 8 weeks to sell. Sell Camp Cards! UNIT CAMP CARD COORDINATOR Each unit will want to recruit a parent to act as a camp card sale coordinator. This person will serve as the principal promoter and organizer for the sale and he or she should work closely with the unit leaders who are planning the unit s summer camp trips Everyone s number one goal is to get 100% of their Scouts to camp, and the camp card program is a way for Scouts to pay their own way. The camp card coordinator will be the person who places the unit s order and receives their overall supply of cards. This person will be responsible for the payment of sold cards (including returning unsold cards) when the sale is concluded. He or she should organize a time to distribute cards to each family member and publicize due dates. If a family needs additional cards, the unit coordinator should handle re-stocking their supply and if necessary, re-ordering from the council. Coordinator Tools: A Sample receipt that the unit coordinator can use when issuing cards to Scouts and families is available on the website (www.eacbsa.org). Also available in the coordinator tools section is a roster list that can be used to keep track of every participants sale. The coordinator should also do periodic reminders to everyone involved that includes dates of when things are due as well as news about how the sale is going. This can be done at meetings and through email.

It s like printing money! ~Art Hawkins, EAC Scout Executive HOW TO SELL CAMP CARDS Door-to-Door: Take your Cards for a trip around the neighborhood. Highlight the great coupons! Also, encourage them to buy several cards because the coupon tear-off portion can only be used one time. Let them know you are trying to earn your way to camp. Show & Sell: Set up a sales booth and sell CAMP CARDS on the spot. This can be an effective approach in the right location at the right time, but don t hang your hat on this approach alone. Focus on multiple locations over the course of a couple of days. Sell at Work: A great way for Mom and Dad to help their Scout. Have Mom & Dad take the Cards to work. SAFETY AND COURTESY Be sure to review these safety and courtesy tips with your Scouts and parents. Sell with another Scout or with an adult. Never enter anyone s home. Never sell after dark, unless with an adult. Don t carry large amounts of cash. Always walk on the sidewalk and driveway. Be careful of dogs while selling. Say thank you whether or not the prospect buys a Camp Card. Say you sell: - 5 to family IT S EASY TO SELL! - 5 to friends and neighbors - and 10 from mom and dad taking them to work. THAT S 20 CARDS!!

Camp Card Sale Details SALES TECHNIQUES FOR SCOUTS Don t miss the opportunity to use the camp card sale as a chance to train Scouts in public speaking, sales, and service! Your Scouts and parents will appreciate the effort, and your sales will improve. Have Scouts role-play and practice on your kick-off night. Steps to prepare Scouts for Sales: Wear uniforms. Smile and be able to introduce themselves first name only. Tell them where you are from (unit within Scouting). Be able to explain how the sale helps the Scout attend Summer Camp. Be able to explain discounts that the purchaser will receive. Close the sale and thank them. BLITZ CLUB INCENTIVE Every Scout who sells 50 Camp Cards (and the money for which is turned into the Scout Service Center) on or before Thursday, March 29, 2018 will receive 2 tickets* for the Solo: A Star Wars Story movie premiere on Thursday, May 24th at 7 pm! Tickets also include 2 small popcorn & drinks! Additional tickets for family members only will be available for purchase at $20.00 each.
