MEMO FROM THE PRESIDENT (SHORT EXPOSURES) Mar. 2, 2018 Hi all. We began as a club in 1949, almost 70 years ago! We have been through big changes in photography, from the transition to 35mm slides in the mid-century (20 th ), to digital at the end of the century. The changes in photography continue at a rapid pace in the 21 st Century. We have the challenge of trying to keep up with technical changes, develop our craft and our art, and enjoy the ride, mutually supporting each other in our individual and collective journeys in photography. Where would you like to be as a photographer at the end of 2018? Will you try new things, or work on what you know and like best, or both? How can the club support you in meeting your goals? We are starting a new year with a full slate of officers and directors. In addition, we add Emil Heinze as assistant to Steve Fisher, our Print Director; Victoria Braden has renewed as our representative to the Northwest Council of Camera Clubs (NWCCC); Steve Havert continues as our Website Editor; and Bob Paul continues as Short Exposures Editor and Traveling Prints Director. Jerry Joaquin will be finishing his work as Projected Image Division Interclub Director and Chair for the Annual Show for next year, so we will need people to replace him in each of those jobs. Steve Fisher continues as Nature Interclub Director. We also should add someone as assistant to the Richters who are our Digital Projection Directors. We welcome Guy Bralley as Vice President. Virginia Richter will continue to serve as Secretary, and Jerry Joaquin as Treasurer. Contact me if you would like to help with any of these jobs. We may have a busy year at our regular meetings on the 3 rd Monday each month, judging and evaluating images. If February is any guide, we will see more entries. That s a good thing. The critique is important, so we may find we need to reduce the entry number from 4 to 3 each month in order to be sure not to go too quickly in the critique phase to get done on time. Also, your participation each month means more feedback for your photographs and more experience preparing and showing your work. The annual show culminates our previous calendar year and gives you a chance to see a showing of all entries from all members, and showing your best work during the year. Your entries this year are eligible for next year s annual show. We hope to see you soon, at our annual show on March 11. Be sure to RSVP to Christina Krueger.. 4

INTERCLUB COMPETITIONS COMING UP, BRING YOUR IMAGES TO A MEETING: The Photographic Society of America s (PSA) interclub image competitions provide club members with an opportunity to have their images judged by qualified judges and to measure their growth as photographers. The club will submit to several interclubs this coming season (beginning Sep-Oct each year and ending Apr-May). Those include: One digital projection Group in Color (Projected Image Division or PID ) One digital projection Group in Nature (Nature Division or ND). The club especially wants to encourage participation by newer club members. The selection process is used to send the clubs' best potential entry.
