Objectives and Plans for the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (DHRTC) Bo Cerup-Simonsen IOR Norway 2015 Stavanger Center for Olie og Gas DTU

Basic principles of Centre Background The centre is part of the Danish long-term national budgeting and planning. 4 mai 2015

Recovery from Danish Fields 93% of production in chalk w 25% RF 3

Increasing the Recovery Rate adding to 40years of development 40 Years of development has brought recovery to its current state 4

Potential: Access to Marginal Fields 5

Urgency: Commercial and technical lifetime of fields and infrastructure 6

Basic principles of Centre Background The centre is part of the Danish long-term national budgeting and planning. Objectives Research to identify and qualify new ways to enable increased oil and gas recovery in the Danish North Sea. Integration, alignment towards application. Attract and educate professionals to the industry. Resources 1 BDKK (~130MEUR) over 10 years, donation by DUC Data and interaction with DUC and other industry Open Organization: Centre within a network Integrated research. Status and way ahead Strategy and planning Overall strategy and plan in place Technical strategy continuously developing Recruitment to Centre staff Core team in place by June 2015 Research activities The programme Advanced Water Flooding has been formulated on overall level, in terms of objectives and research activities to increase oil/gas production from Dan, Halfdan and Kraka. Next programmes to be defined Partner institutions Involvement of partner institutions has been initiated.

Recovery Rates for Danish Fields 18

Basic principles of Centre How to realize the potential Basic research Applied research Development Technology Value creation The Centre has to create value through research! 1. Research based education 2. Increased confidence in new methods for increased oil and gas production. 3. Stimulation of collaboration and synergies within in the Danish oil and Centre for technical Oil and Gas - DTU, Technical University of Denmark gas environment.

Operating model Basic assumptions Resource management Centre competences on system-understanding from reservoir characterization to refinery are necessary for the Centre to keep inhouse to be able to evaluate application and value potentials. Open innovation With system-understanding as an exception, the Centre will utilize and develop the existing national network of competences with an open innovation approach. Access to data The success of the Centre relies heavily on access to industry data, knowledge and people from Maersk Oil. As access will be given to data and as the Centre has the capability to make this available for research, it is one of the greatest Centre for assets Oil and Gas of - DTU, the Technical Centre. Operating model Basic assumptions Flagship Programmes ~ 90 % of the research budget will be allocated to 5-10 flagship programmes. Flagship programmes are defined by aspirational objectives and consist of ~ 30 cross-institutional and/or -disciplinary projects. Each project within a flagship programme shall have a realistic potential for contribution to the aspirational objective. Flagship programme managers Will facilitate a transparent integration of research activities across institutions and with industry. Will monitor and report programme progress with line of sight towards application, arranges workshops, and continuously adjust the overall execution plan in regard to improvement potentials. 4 mai 2015

How to get started First of 3-5 Flagship Programmes HC volume At present only EOR and Reservoir characterization, other areas to follow Developed in dialogue with DUC over the last year How to proceed Programme description will be public when finalized (1-2 months) Individual projects to be developed following the IPTA wheel Review and analysis of existing research and data from Dan, Halfdan, and Kraka (next 6-12 months) Technical discussions in workshops with DUC experts and relevant partners will subsequently form the basis for specific research projects, i.e. Post Doc and PhD projects
