This rocking chair is made exclusively by the Hinkle Chair Company, a family-owned business that has made hardwood furniture in the same location in Springfield Tennessee since Your chair comes with a rich heritage and will become a treasured family heirloom. 3 **Attention/Stop** Please read before assembling this product! Hinkle Chair Company has made every effort to provide you with a ready-to-assemble product that has the same quality as our fully assembled rocking chairs. In the unlikely event that there are incorrect or missing parts or that parts become damaged during shipping, following the instructions below will protect you (The Customer) from accepting responsibility for a product that is damaged or incomplete. 1 st ) Inspect all parts for any imperfection that might have occurred during shipping. 2 nd ) If there is damaged or missing parts the chair must be returned in the original packaging before any credit can be issued. In the case of damaged parts, individual parts will be sent as replacements. 3 rd ) Follow all steps pre-assembling the chair without applying any of the following; Buttons, Screws, or Nails. 4 th ) When you have determined that all parts are available and undamaged, and that all parts and assemblies fit properly, proceed with all steps. This product is intended for a covered porch or indoors. This product should be cleaned weekly as you would with any other wooden furniture product. 4 STEP 1: Stand Chair Back (C) upright and align with pre-drilled hole in Left Side (B-L). Insert 1/4 x 2 bolts (E) through the back and into the predrilled hole in side. Hand tighten until there is resistance. Finish threading in the bolt with the hex wrench provided. Do not fully tighten as this will make aligning other bolts more difficult. STEP 1: Align the pre-drilled hole in Chair Back (C) with the lower pre-drilled hole in the left Chair Side (B-L). Insert 1/4 x 2 Bolt(E) through the chair back and into the lower pre-drilled hole on the chair side. Hand tighten until there is resistance. Finish threading bolt in with the provided hex wrench. Again, do not fully tighten as this will make aligning bolts in future steps more difficult. Repeat this entire step for the Right Chair Side (B-R). 4

5 STEP 2: Lay chair on the Chair Back (C) and place the Chair Front (D) onto Chair Sides (B-L/R). Align the tenons on top of the chair front with the mortises in the bottom of the arms on chair sides. Push the chair front so that the tenons go into the mortises. These should be tight and will not fully seat into the mortise. Continue with step below. STEP 2: Stand chair upright. Using a hammer (not provided) tap down on top of the arms driving the tenon into the mortise until it is fully seated. You may have to alternate between each side until the tenons are fully seated. 5

6 STEP 2: Place 1/4" x 2 bolt (E) through the Chair Front (D) and into the pre-drilled hole in the chair side. Hand tighten the bolt until there is resistance. Finish threading in bolt with the provided hex wrench. do not completely tighten as this will make future assembly steps more difficult. STEP 2: Using the 2 screw (E) insert through the pre-drilled hole in the arm and into the tenon on the chair front. Using an electric or cordless drill with a Phillips bit will make this step much easier. 6

7 STEP 3: Place Chair Seat (F) into chair and center with the sides. Push the chair seat back until the front of the seat is flush with the front posts on the chair sides. STEP 3: Using the 2 screws (E) insert into the pre-drilled hole in the dowel on the chair front. Screw through the dowel and into the seat bottom. Repeat for the other side on the chair front. Using an electric or cordless drill with a Phillips bit makes this step much easier. STEP 3: Using the 2 screws (E) insert into the predrilled hole in the dowel on the chair back. Screw through the dowel and into the seat bottom. The chair back only needs one screw to secure the seat. Using an electric or cordless drill with a Phillips bit makes this step much easier. 7

8 STEP 4: Making sure that the predrilled holes in the runner are facing into the center of the rocker, lay rocker on its side and place the Runner (A) on the front post first and then the rear post. Align the tenons on the posts with the mortises in the runner. Using a hammer (not provided) tapping on the bottom of the runner. You may have to alternate from front to back until the runner is fully seated onto the posts. Repeat for the other side. STEP 4: Place 1-1/4 nail into the predrilled hole of the runner. Tap the nail through the runner and into the tenon on the posts. Repeat for all posts on both sides. NOTE: Go back through all of the steps and fully tighten all fasteners used during assembly. 8

9 STEP 5: Using the large 1/2 button place into the counter sink hole in the post. Tap the button in until flush. Repeat for all 6 holes. STEP 5: Using the small 3/8 button place into the counter sink hole in the arm. Tap the button in until flush. Repeat for both sides. 9

10 REFINISHING LISTED BELOW ARE THE STEPS TO REFINISH YOUR FURNITURE. 1. Lightly hand-sand the product with 220 fine grit sand paper. It is necessary to scratch the old finish and smooth out any rough areas. 2. Wipe the furniture with a clean cloth, soaked with lacquer thinner. This will remove any build-up and sawdust left behind from sanding. 3. If the products is painted it can be painted directly over the sanded varnish with any high quality exterior paint. Allow to dry. If the product is stained continue with the next step. 4. Apply a coat of Polyurethane. Allow to dry. 5. Using a very fine grade of steel wool (.0000 recommended) rub down the finish. Wipe with dry cloth. 6. Apply a second coat of Polyurethane. After this dries, the furniture should look like new with a clear, glass-like finish. For furniture that contains woven material, such as seats and backs, it is not recommended that these be refinished. They can be repainted by first wiping down with lacquer thinner and applying an exterior paint, but sanding will cause damage to the fibers and reduce the life of that part. Replacement woven parts are available. Please contact customer service at CARE TIPS LISTED BELOW ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP KEEP YOUR FURNITURE LOOKING NEW. To preserve the finish on stained or painted furniture it is highly recommended that they either be placed indoors or in a protected environment such as a covered porch. In any case the finish will last longer and look better if kept out of direct sunlight and blowing rain. The finish on this furniture will last for a lifetime if used indoors. This furniture is not intended to be used in an unprotected environment. The sun and rain will weather the varnish finish if left out in the elements over time (6 months to one year depending on the climate). Our furniture products need the same attention as any other solid wood furniture and monthly cleaning with any quality household furniture polish will keep your furniture looking new for many years to come. If your climate has high humidity, even if you follow the recommended cleaning intervals above, you may have problems with mold or mildew. To remove the mold and mildew dilute one ounce of bleach into sixteen ounces of water and apply with a soft cloth. More than one application may be necessary. Allow to dry and apply furniture polish to protect the finish. 10
