1 364 VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING TRADE TESTING AND CERTIFICATION SYSTEM OVERVIEW In accdance with Vocational Training Council Ordinance (Cap 1130), VTC has established a trade testing certification system. In 1989, VTC began conducting voluntary trade tests f selected trades. The objectives of trade tests are: - to help employers recruit wkers f skilled jobs; - to facilitate wkers to acquire qualifications, in particular, f licensing purposes; - to enhance the status of skilled wkers; - to establish a skill hierarchy f career advancement of skilled wkers. OPERATION OF TRADE TESTING AND CERTIFICATION SYSTEM At present, VTC offers tests to various trades. 4 Trade Testing Certification System 367 Hairdressers Make-up Artists Beauticians Intense Pulsed Light Equipment Operats Security Guards - 1 year s relevant trade ; - Completion of relevant hairdressing programmes of a duration of years relevant trade ; - Completion of relevant make-up programmes of duration of years relevant trade ; - Completion of relevant beauty care programmes of duration of years relevant trade ; - Completion of Secondary 3; - Completion of relevant beauty care programmes of duration of 300 ; completion of a programme in the operation of the IPL equipment of duration of 24 Nil F details of the trade tests of the beauty care hairdressing industry, please refer to the website at FORMAT OF TESTS Engineering Trade Tests A trade test of engineering services trade (except Security Guards) consists of two parts: a knowledge test a practical test. Questions f knowledge tests are in a multiple-choice fmat. The duration of a knowledge test varies among trades but generally lasts one to six. A cidate may complete a knowledge test by pen computer. Those who have completed a craft certificate programme in the trade being tested may be exempted from the knowledge test of the engineering trade test. The length of practical tests varies among trades but generally ranges from one to ten.

5 368 VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING Trade Test Infmation A free guidebook is available f each trade test (except Security Guards). In the guidebook, there are test regulations, a trade knowledge test syllabus, a practical test syllabus sample questions. Trade Test Venues Most trade tests are conducted in VTC premises. Award of Certificates F engineering services trade tests, a cidate who has passed the trade knowledge test the practical test within the specified time span will be awarded a trade test certificate. An individual passing either the trade knowledge test the practical test will receive a statement of the results. Complaint Request f Review of Trade Test Results Cidates may lodge a complaint apply f a review of trade test results to a relevant training board. As f Chinese Cooking, review of trade test results will be considered f written tests only. Scope, Stard Questions of Trade Testing There are training boards advising VTC on trade test matters. A training board comprises employers, wkers, professionals government representatives. The training boards set the scope, stard questions f trade tests. Training boards periodically set review the questions f knowledge tests practical tests. The boards also approve test results befe publication. Trade tests of National Vocational Qualifications Certificate in the fields of AutoCAD, Beauty Care, Chinese Cook, Electrical Maintenance, Hairdressing, Infmation Transpt System Installer, Massage, Office Software Applications, Real Estate Management, Salesman Vehicle Mechanics are centrally codinated by the HQ Division 2 (Telephone No.: ). Trade tests in the trade of Chinese Cook are conducted by the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute (Telephone No.: ). Additional tests in other trade areas will be offered. Germany. Trade tests in the trade of Western cuisine are conducted by the Hospitality Industry Training Development Centre (Telephone No.: ). VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENT F the academic year 2011/12, over 2,200 Youth College, IVE HKDI students sat f the vocational assessments (VA) in Safety, Health Environment, Hairdressing, Slimming Body Massage, Beauty Care Mot Vehicle Sales. In addition, VTC has successfully established a One Examination, Multiple Qualifications system in Hairdressing Beauty industries with the Guangdong Occupational Skill Testing Authity (GDOSTA) the International Professional Stards Netwk (IPSN). Swift progress has also been made in the One Exam, Dual Qualifications system between VA the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Property Management, Automotive, Printing, Elderly Care, Tourism Hospitality industries.
