3 faq list couture knobs & roses What will be launched in this Baldwin Couture Collection? With the successful launch of the Severin Fayerman collection of new transitional knobs, levers and roses in 2007, it was confirmed that customers continue to expect Baldwin to raise the bar in style. These new styles are more detailed than anything previously offered in the Estate Collection. The launch will encompass: > Six new Estate knobs incredible forging details > Six new Estate roses coordinated with knobs & future levers 2 5/8 diameter in passage and privacy 2 diameter in passage and privacy Why transitional design? As the new collection of Estate knobs, levers and roses was researched, it was made apparent that designs in the home are transcending many different style genres on a more consistent basis. As a result, those knob, lever and rose designs that pull style cues across these different genres performed the best during the research. There is a heavy traditional influence in several of the styles, while a contemporary twist can be seen on most as well. This transitional influence is expected to remain popular in hardware design for the foreseeable future. What are the knobs made of? While Baldwin has recently expanded into hardware manufactured of bronze and stainless steel as the substrate, the core expertise of the company remains in brass. All of the new products included in this launch are manufactured of solid forged brass. Where are the products made? The new knobs and roses are forged in the Baldwin manufacturing plant in Reading, PA. All of the machining and finishing is also done in the Reading plant. What finishes are available? As with all Estate Collection products, the knobs and roses developed for this program will be available in all Estate finishes. The price tiers will be identical to the balance of the Estate Collection, with distressed and PVD finishes in Tier 2, while all others will fall in Tier 1. Can the new designs be distressed? Yes! Each of the new designs are made from a single piece of cast or forged brass, which allows them to be distressed successfully. It should be noted that while distressing is possible, it will most likely minimize the sharpness of the detail of the new designs. Are any of these designs used on Estate mortise entry sets? These designs can easily be used on Estate mortise entry sets. These designs are new, which means they are not specified as part of the bill-of-materials for any of the current Estate mortise entry sets. If a customer wants to use one of the new knobs on their mortise entry set, the flexibility of the Estate Collection easily allows it. All that a customer needs to do is order the mortise entry set by components: Simply specify the outside trim, the inside escutcheon and the desired knob or lever. 4 faq list couture knobs & roses Do the knobs and roses work with the standard Estate mechanics and mounting adaptors? Yes! All knobs and roses are fully compatible with all Estate spindles, mortise locks, latches and mounting adaptors that are on showroom shelves today. Nothing new is required to allow the new designs to work with any Estate chassis. Are any new components used in this launch? Yes! A new Spindle Adaptor is included for knob designs K001, K003 and K006 which allows the installer to position the knob in the aesthetically preferred position. Since these three knob designs include details in the face that give a different appearance depending on their rotational position, the Spindle Adaptor was designed to allow for unlimited installation options. Do the new roses screw onto the mounting adaptors? No. All new roses both passage and privacy will use the brass rose retainer that is currently used on the Estate Collection privacy roses. The roses are not threaded. The rose retainer will hold them firmly in place retainers and a retainer wrench are included in the box with all roses. Is anything else included in the rose box? Yes. The 5095 graphite-impregnated nylon spacer is included in the rose box. Two are included with a pair of roses, and one is included with a single rose. These are used on top of the rose retainer, between the retainer and the knob/lever shank. They allow the knob or lever to turn smoothly when operated. Please be sure to use these during installation. 5
