This short workbook will help you determine the best profile for your home, the right amount of material you will need and how best to efficiently and safely complete the job. After you complete the workbook, send it back to Classic along with photos of your roof and any plans or designs you might have. This will help determine if it is time for a tear-off or if you can roof right over what is there now. Does the roof have any waviness to it? These are usually a result of structural settlement, inadequate initial construction or structural damage from a snapped rafter or roof leaks. For convenience sake, run is always 12. For example, a 12:12 pitch roof will have 12 of vertical rise for every 12 of horizontal run effectively making it a 45 degree angle. 4 Step#4 Measuring Your Roof Your Perspective In measuring your roof, you can look at the house from two perspectives: Ground or Rooftop. Both are important to get a sense of what your home looks like and the overall dimensions of your home. Ground: Photographing Your Home The best way to photograph your home is o Early morning or on an overcast day This cuts down on the glare and sun and gives us a better view of what your roof looks like. o Straight on but slightly elevated Stand in front of your home but slightly higher than the ground. This can be done on a ladder or the flatbed of a truck. o Close-ups of problem areas If you have specific areas that are of concern, photograph those as close up as you can. This will help our team decipher the best way to guide you through the installation process. Rooftop: Drawing Your Roof If you do not have your home s plans draw your own. Begin with a clean sheet of grid paper. Imagine what your roof looks like from the top looking down. That s the rooftop perspective. Draw your roof. 5 Adding Measurements and Pitch Now add the measurements of your roof. If you are doing this on the roof (from end to end) please use proper safety equipment and take your time. Indicate on your drawing if your measurements are from the roof or from the ground. If from the ground, use a measuring wheel or tape measure. Be sure to include the roof s overhangs, and dormers (if any) in your measurements. Additionally, note the different pitches in the roof. Lastly, using the legend below, mark the chimneys, roof vents, plumbing vents, satellite dishes, antennae, lightning rods, skylights and anything else that breaks up the roof. Be sure to include all measurements. Mail In the Workbook Take this completed workbook and mail it along with your drawings, plans, digital photos and anything else you have so that we can best prepare a materials list and price quote. Once we receive your workbook, our technical experts will look at your photos and descriptions to see if there is anything in particular you should be aware of before starting the project. This Manual will give you all the information necessary to properly and safely install your new Classic Metal Roof on your home. Factory Training We have regular classes taught by our master craftsmen and you are invited! Ask your Customer Service Specialist for a schedule of upcoming classes.
