2 INSTALLATION GUIDELINES FOR HORIZONTAL SLIDERS BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR DOOR PLEASE REVIEW THESE BASIC GUIDELINES 1. All doors must be installed on plumb walls. Any walls out of plumb will require that the door frames be shimmed back to plumb. All door frames must be installed plumb and square to insure proper operation and warranty. 2. All headers and side casings should be securely fastened to the wall on which they are installed. 3. Doors mounted on insulated panels should have backup headers and backup casings to help strengthen the opening. 4. Doors mounted on very tall panel walls will require support steel to be added to the wall around the door opening. Support steel, if required, is to be supplied and specified by others. 5. Check that the inside of the header track is free of any debris that may impede the travel of the wheel assemblies before operating the door. 6. The exterior and interior edges of headers and side casings should be caulked with silicone to prevent any moisture migration behind the components that may cause frost or sweating. NOTICE: Always consult and comply with all local electrical codes. Ensure that the licensed electrician is aware of the voltage and amperage requirements of the door and uses the proper size wire and power supply. All freezer doors should be supplied with an uninterrupted and separate power supply for the anti-frost heaters. 3 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR MANUAL/ELECTRIC HORIZONTAL SLIDERS 1. Check & inspect all crates for damage. Freight company is responsible for any damage. Purchaser should file claims with freight company immediately. 2. ALL DOORS & DOOR FRAMES MUST BE INSTALLED PLUMB & SQUARE TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION & WARRANTY VALIDATION. Verify that walls are plumb. Any walls out of plumb will require that door frames be shimmed back to plumb. After it has been established that walls are plumb, installation of side casings, header and door(s) can begin. 3. Place side casings on wall & ensure that inside edge of each casing is flush with sides of door opening. Attach each front casing to wall by inserting screws into each pre-drilled hole. If there are backup casings, use carriage bolts. Note: Care should be taken when installing heated casings so as not to damage heater wires. 3

4 3b. Ensure that the provided fasteners are installed in each of the holes along the casing. If lag bolts are being used for fastening the header, use only wood screws with finish washers on the vertical casings. Wood Screws Carriage Bolt 4. Place header with track assembly on top of side casings. On biparting header, center the header over the opening, as seen in step 4b. Verify that header is level and flush with the top of the opening. Attach header to wall with lags or carriage bolts into each of the pre-drilled holes along the length of the header. Make sure that the lags are placed ABOVE track assembly so that the gasket on the back of the door has free travel. Place one lag or carriage bolt near bottom of header on each end. Note: Additional wires may be present depending on door type. Note: Care should be taken when installing heated headers so as not to damage heater wires. 4

5 4b. For Bi-Parting Doors, mount the header as centered above the opening. Bi-Parting Only 4c. Fasten header to wall using the provided header fasteners. Lag Bolt Carriage Bolt 5

6 5. Remove lower nut & two washers on each roller assembly bolt located in header track and remove the metal plate. 6. Carefully set bottom of door(s) next to bottom of casings. Do not drag door as damage will occur to sweep bottom. If the door(s) has a floor guide system, allow door(s) to rest on two wooden blocks that are attached to Bottom Door Guide Rail. Lift door(s) to its upright position and place roller assembly bolts into slots of corner door brackets. 7. Install fender washer, lock washers and nuts to roller assembly bolts. Lock roller assemblies to hanger brackets by tightening nuts. Sliding Door brackets are shipped in optimal configuration, but can be adjusted if necessary. 6

7 8. After correct door height adjustment has been made, slightly tighten locking nuts on the roller assembly bolts. Open door and if present, remove two wooden blocks that are attached to Bottom Door Guide Rail(s). DO NOT DISCARD BLOCKS! NOTE: WOODEN BLOCKS ARE USED TO INDICATE PROPER DOOR HEIGHT FROM FLOOR. SWEEP GASKET SHOULD CONTACT FLOOR WHEN CLOSED AND RAISE OFF FLOOR WHEN OPEN. IF GASKETS DRAG, DOOR IS IMPROPERLY HUNG. FOR WALL GUIDE INSTALLATION, SKIP TO PAGE CRITICAL STEP! With door(s) in closed position, slide Bottom Door Guide(s) underneath trailing edge side of Bottom Door Guide Rail(s) and position as follows: Bottom Door Guide(s) should be positioned approximately 4, 5 or 5 1/2 -- depending on door thickness-- away from the face of the trailing edge side casing to back of Bottom Door Guide(s). With door(s) in closed position, the trailing edge end of Bottom Door Guide(s) should extend approximately 2 beyond trailing edge of door(s). Mark center of two slots of Bottom Door Guide(s) on floor. Insert anchor bolts (provided). DO NOT TIGHTEN ANCHOR BOLTS AT THIS TIME! Note: 5 for a 5 door, 5 1/2 for a 5 1/2 door IF THERE IS NO WALL GUIDE, SKIP TO PAGE 11. 7

8 WALL GUIDE 10. Attach the Wall Guide Hook (found in the parts box) to the door with the roller facing up with the two bolts and shim block. 11. With door in closed position, slide the aluminum Wall Guide Track over the top of the wheel on the Wall Guide Hook, ensuring a minimum 1/2 clearance between the bottom of the Wall Guide Track & the top of the Wall Guide Hook. 12. Place the aluminum Wall Guide against the wall and using a level, draw a line at the top of the Wall Guide. After drawing a line, measure 1 3/4 down from line and depending on how many nylon threaded rods you received, mark equally spaced holes. 13. Drill 1/2 holes where the nylon threaded rods will be inserted. 8

9 WALL GUIDE 14. Remove shipping tape from the backside of the Wall Guide Drop mounting bracket and remove bracket from aluminum Wall Guide. Slide the Wall Guide onto the square heads of the threaded rods. 15. Reinsert the Wall Guide Drop mounting bracket back into the aluminum Wall Guide. 16. Remove Wall Guide Hook. 17. Attach the aluminum Wall Guide to the wall by inserting the threaded rods into the 1/2 drilled holes. Use all threaded rods; number of threaded rods will vary based on panel size. 18. Attach the Wall Guide Drop mounting bracket to the side of the trailing edge casing with screws. 9

10 WALL GUIDE 19. Attach the Wall Guide Hook (found in the parts box) to the door with the roller facing up with the two bolts and shim block. NOTE: WALL GUIDE CASINGS ARE NOT THE SAME. THE 4 CASING GOES ON THE TRAILING EDGE. SLIDE LEFT SLIDE RIGHT 10

11 20. CRITICAL STEP! After Bottom Door Guide(s) or Wall Guide(s) has been properly installed, adjust door(s) for proper seal between door gaskets and header and side casings. Open door(s) approximately 6 into door opening. Gasket at top of door(s) should be approximately 1/8 from header. This dimension will ensure a proper seal once door(s) is fully closed. 21. Close door(s) and check all four sides for proper seal. Take wooden block (previously removed from Bottom Door Guide Rail) and place between gasket track and at top of one of the side casings. Move block down entire length of casing. Block should fit snugly. Repeat step for other side casing. Adjust door as necessary. 22. On biparting doors, ensure that both panels are parallel to each other and that they close and seal with each other properly. If door(s) does not seal properly, adjustments can be made by adjusting roller assembly bolts. 11

12 23. After correct seal adjustment has been made, tighten locking nuts on roller assembly bolts. 24. To adjust the panels horizontally, loosen the nut on the bottom of the trolley and the bolt will slide left and right inside the trolley body. 25. To adjust the panels in or out, loosen the nut on top of the panel and adjust for a proper seal. 26. To adjust the height of the Biparting panels, loosen the nut on top of the panel and using a 1/2 open end wrench, turn the hanger bolts and adjust the panels to the correct height for a proper seal. Open and close door(s) to ensure smooth operation and to verify that door(s) is properly sealed when in closed position. Bi-Parting Only 12

13 27. Tighten bolts on floor guide. 28. With door in closed position, LE Hook Snubber on leading edge side of door (single sliders only) should fit snugly into casing mounted hook. If necessary, adjust Hook Snubber on door by loosening bolts and sliding it until it becomes snug. Tighten bolts on LE Hook Snubber. THE LE HOOK IS NOT A DOOR STOP. 29. On biparting doors, open both panels to fully opened positions and ensure that Anti- Lift Devices (if supplied) do not make contact with the header track. There should be approx. 1/8 clearance space between the Anti-Lift Devices and the header track when panels are fully opened. Single Slide Only Bi-Parting Only 30. If doors are fitted with an OPTIONAL Floor-Mounted Door Stop, open door to fully opened position and install floor-mounted stop next to trailing edge side of door with anchor bolts provided. 13

14 31. Caulk exterior, interior, and bottom edges of side casings and header with silicone to prevent frost and sweating. 32. FREEZER DOORS SHOULD BE SUPPLIED WITH AN UNINTERRUPTED AND SEPARATE POWER SUPPLY. Ensure that licensed electrician is aware of voltage and amperage requirements of freezer door and uses proper wire size and power supply. Always consult and comply with all local electrical codes. 33. SJ cord on freezer door should be routed to a 120-volt electrical box (not supplied) positioned at trailing edge end of header. 14

15 DISCONNECT CABLE (FOR POWER DOORS ONLY) 34. Using stainless steel zip tie, attach the cable loop from inside the panel to the disconnect bracket. Pull zip tie as tight as possible without engaging the rocker arm on the disconnect bracket. 35. Remove the two phillips head screws from the plastic exterior cable guide. 36. Lay stainless steel cable in plastic cable guide. 37. Reinstall the two phillips head screws in the plastic cable guide cover. 15

16 DISCONNECT CABLE 38. Remove stainless steel cable guide and insert cable through the guide. Re-fasten guide. EMERGENCY STOP On a power door, an emergency stop is provided to lock out the door when needed. Pressing this red button will cause the motor to lock. To unlock the motor, simply rotate the button clockwise to release. Locked Position (Padlock not provided) Unlocked Position 16

17 CHAIN LOCK 39. On a manual door, slide padlock through eye bolt and chain on side of door. 40. On single doors, drill a 3/8 hole through the frame, 34.5 from the floor and 3/4 from the frame edge. 41. Insert the chain lock from the interior, with the inside emergency release knob flush with wall or backup casing. 42. Screw on the provided chain lock eye bolt until it fits snugly against the casing. 43. Slide padlock through chain and hasp to secure door. 17

18 CHAIN LOCK 44. On power operated biparting doors, a padlock may be inserted through the emergency stop hasp and the chain to lock the doors in place. 45. On manual biparting doors, a padlock may be inserted through the chain and lock eye nut. Bi-Parting Only Bi-Parting Only REVERSING EDGE 46. Uncoil the reversing edge from trailing edge of door panel and plug into trailing edge of header. On biparting doors, there will be two reversing edge plugs on the side of each panel. Install stabilizer screw. 18

19 TOP RETURN JAMB 1. If foam is present in the bottom web of the back up header, remove foam. 2. Using the pre-applied tape on galvanized bracket, adhere the return jamb to the back up header. 3. Mount back-up header/return jamb assembly so the the front edge of the PVC jamb compresses against the track header. If you need additional help please contact factory. 19

20 POWER OPERATED HORIZONTAL SLIDER INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUAL OVERVIEW OF YOUR POWER OPERATED DOOR The door is driven by a three phase current motor with a cylinder-worm gear pair which moves a #40 roller-link chain. The door is hung from a track which is unique to this product. Attachment of the door to the chain is accomplished via a disconnect bracket. This disconnect bracket is connected between the door leaf and the chain. In the event that the door needs to be operated manually, due to a loss of power, the door may simply be opened/closed by hand after releasing the chain disconnect. All control circuitry is 24 volts. There are many ways to activate your power operated door - use of two ceiling mounted pull switches (one for the interior and exterior of box) and/or a 2-button (open/close, partial open) station. The pull stations are standard and supplied with each door. For information about other control devices, please contact the factory. All power operated doors come equipped with a reversing edge. Read and be familiar with: BEFORE BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION Installation Guidelines for Horizontal Sliders Verify door has been installed as per: Horizontal Slider Installation Details An uninterrupted (dedicated) fused circuit must be provided to supply line voltage to the door s control box. Always provide a lockable power shut-off switch in close proximity to the door s control box as per: T1000 Installation Guidelines Always keep your hands clear of the drive chain when the door s operator has power or when the door may be moved manually. 21 POWER OPERATED HORIZONTAL SLIDER INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUAL BEFORE SETTING UP THE POWER OPERATOR, MAKE SURE THAT THE DOOR FUNCTIONS WELL AS A MANUALLY OPERATED DOOR. POWER OPERATION WILL NOT CORRECT OR REMEDY ANY PROBLEMS OF A POORLY INSTALLED OR FUNCTIONING MANUAL DOOR After you are satisfied that your sliding door is properly adjusted and working well as a manual slider, you are now ready to begin the process of providing for power operation of the door. Note: All control circuitry is 24 volts. Internal 24 volt supply cannot exceed 1 amp. PULL SWITCH CONNECTIONS (T1000 Installation Guide Page 3) Mount pull switches to ceiling in a convenient location, far enough away from door opening so as to allow sufficient time for door to open fully before any vehicle arrives at the opening. Recommended wire size is 16-guage or less. Two (2) pull switches are provided (one each for interior and exterior of box) Note: Both pull switches should be wired in parallel and normally open. Connect both pull switches to leads labeled Open. REVERSING EDGE CONNECTIONS (T1000 Installation Guide Page 6) Plug in leads from reversing edge to connector on trailing edge side of header. On biparting doors, there is a connector on each side of header. When the edge is depressed (strikes an object), the hose in the reversing edge is compressed, causing air to be forced against a diaphragm in the air switch which in turn causes a pair of contacts to open and reverse (open) the door while it is closing. Adjustment to the sensitivity of the reversing edge can be made by either turning in (more sensitive) or out (less sensitive) the adjusting screw located on the air switch. 22 HORIZONTAL SLIDER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE OUR DOORS ARE MANUFACTURED TO PROVIDE MANY YEARS OF RELIABLE AND TROUBLE-FREE OPERATION WITH A MINIMUM OF MAINTENANCE, PROVIDED THAT THE DOORS ARE INSTALLED BY QUALIFIED COLD STORAGE DOOR INSTALLERS AND AS PER THE INSTALLATION MANUAL PROVIDED WITH EACH DOOR, HAS NOT BEEN DAMAGED OR ALTERED IN ANY WAY OTHER THAN SPECIFIED BY A FACTORY AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE, AND THAT THE DOORS ARE CHECKED PERIODICALLY USING THE SCHEDULE BELOW. COOLER AND FREEZER DOORS ( MANUAL / ELECTRIC ) DAILY: 1. SMOOTH OPERATION 2. POSITIVE SEAL 3. DAMAGE 4. LOOSE, DAMAGED OR MISSING PARTS WEEKLY: 1. GASKETS FOR TEARS, RIPS OR ANY OTHER DAMAGE MONTHLY: 1. BOTTOM DOOR GUIDES, STAY ROLLERS, TROLLEYS AND WHEEL ASSEMBLIES FOR PROPER ADJUSTMENT AND OPERATION 2. ALL FASTENERS FREEZER DOORS ( MANUAL / ELECTRIC ) DAILY: 1. HEATER FOR PROPER OPERATION ( SHOULD HAVE UNINTERRUPTED AND SEPARATE POWER SUPPLY) ELECTRIC DOORS DAILY: 1. REVERSING EDGE FOR PROPER OPERATION 2. PULL SWITCHES FOR PROPER OPERATION MONTHLY: 1. DRIVE CHAIN TENSION AND LUBRICATION PLEASE MAKE ANY AND ALL ADJUSTMENTS TO ENSURE SMOOTH OPERATION AND POSITIVE SEAL AS REQUIRED PER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED WITH EACH DOOR. REPAIR AND/OR REPLACE ANY WORN, DAMAGED OR DEFECTIVE PART AS SOON AS DETECTED. 22

23 Warranty - The Frank Door Company warrants to the original owner of this product that the door panel will be free of defective material and workmanship, for a period of five (5) years and a two (2) year warranty on all other Frank Door Company manufactured components (excluding normal wear parts), commencing with the date of shipment from the factory. Frank Door Company warrants products or component parts used on the doors, but not manufactured by Frank Door, to the purchaser, to the same extent that they are warranted by the original manufacturer to Frank Door. The warranty becomes valid upon the receipt of Payment in Full by Frank Door Company. Only defects called to Frank Door Company s attention during this period of time will be covered under this warranty. This warranty is null and void if: The door(s) are altered in any way without advanced written consent of the Frank Door Company. The door(s) are not installed within 120 days of original shipment. Frank Door Company will not be responsible for any installation (labor) costs incurred during replacement, or for replacement or repair of any materials subjected to excessive abuse, misuse, or improper installation. Frank Door will repair or replace at its discretion and at no charge, with freight prepaid (carrier of Frank Door Company s choice), any door or its component parts which are found defective upon inspection by an authorized Frank Door Company representative. This provision of repair or replacement shall be the limit of Frank Door s responsibility under this warranty. Frank Door Company shall not be responsible for other losses or damages claimed to be caused by any door or door parts covered under this warranty. No other oral or written representation made by Frank Door Company or its agents are part of this warranty unless specifically set forth in writing by an authorized Frank Door Company representative. The above set forth warranty is seller s sole warranty. Seller, makes no other warranty of any kind whatever, expressed or implied; and all implied warranties or merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose which exceed the aforestated obligation and hereby disclaimed by the seller and excluded from this agreement. Back Charge Claim Policy - The Frank Door Company strictly enforces this Warranty Back Charge Policy. Prior to ANY warranty work being performed, the following procedures must be followed. Frank Door reserves the right to deny ANY back charges or invoices if these procedures are not followed. A detailed explanation of the issue(s) must be presented to the Manager of Customer Service for review. If the claim is determined to be justifiable by the Manager of Customer Service, the following information shall be required prior to any expenditures or work being performed: The Manager of Customer Service will issue a purchase order for the scope of work with a Not to Exceed monetary amount for the scope of work specifically set forth in writing. Any changes or modifications to the scope of work or the monetary value must have prior written approval from the Manager of Customer Service. The total liability to Frank Door Company shall be the total monetary value of the scope of work approved in writing by the purchase order and any modifications thereof by the Manager of Customer Service. No other oral or written representatives made by Frank Door Company or its agents are part of this policy unless specifically set forth in writing by the Manager of Customer Service. 23
