3 At Stolab, the details come first Honesty is the best policy. This is why we want to start with what may not be visible in a picture, but will be clear after you have lived with our furniture for a while. Quality and timelessness. It s in the attention to detail, in the solid wood and the fact that beautiful design has a function and vice versa. Unfortunately upon first glance, there is no way to highlight the craftsmanship behind each piece of furniture or our care for the environment and future generations to come. But we hope that these will be two more reasons to choose Stolab. Not just once, but many times over. For us, it is the attention to detail that we are probably most proud of. What you don t see at first but what you feel in the long run. 3

About Arka Arka was designed in 1955 by Yngve Ekström (1913 1988) for Stolab. It s a lounge chair with a unique design based on three circles.

5 About Arka Arka was designed in 1955 by Yngve Ekström ( ) for Stolab. It s a lounge chair with a unique design based on three circles. Arka was initially made of oiled or lacquered birch, oiled oak with teak colouring or smoky, oiled oak. A matching cushion was also available for purchase. After having been absent from our collection for a number of years, we brought it back to life again in 2007 in connection with our 100-year anniversary. Arka is now one of our classics. In 2015, Arka will be 60 years old and we are honouring this by making a solid oak version. 5

Solid love Stolab has been in love with solid wood since the company was founded in 1907. It maintains an uncompromising conviction that solid wood is synonymous with quality and sustainability.

7 Solid love Stolab has been in love with solid wood since the company was founded in It maintains an uncompromising conviction that solid wood is synonymous with quality and sustainability. Solid wood however places demands on sensitivity and craftsmanship during the entire manufacturing process. We need to have eyes that can see the defects and hands that are sensitive to the surface and structure. From design and raw materials to a delivered, used product, solid wood furniture requires a lot of careful consideration. The goal is to create a piece of furniture that becomes more beautiful over time. 7

23 A true story from Smålandsstenar When Oscar André got involved and started the Stolfabrikaktiebolaget in Smålandsstenar 1907, it was not by chance. There were strong reasons for this. The region had close access to the best raw materials as well as a competent workforce, as well as a wealth of knowledge in terms of woodworking. Later on, when his son Ture André joined the company, the value of developing a product range together with prominent designers, such as Carl Malmsten and Yngve Ekström, was also understood. Right environment Today we are based and manufacture our furniture in the exact same place. But we are far from standing still. We invest regularly in our manufacturing facilities and organisation. We develope our product range not least thanks to some of Scandinavia s most prominent designers. Deep convictions, a lot of heart and a strong sense of responsibility for the environment has helped Stolab grow and do well over the past hundred years. 23

Solid Birch Birch is a light wood which has medium hardness and is very durable.

Oak Oak is a very hard, dense and strong type of wood.

A naturally oiled item of oak furniture has a deep, warm colour surface.

34 Solid Birch Birch is a light wood which has medium hardness and is very durable. Birch provides a lot of options in terms of surface treatment. Oak Oak is a very hard, dense and strong type of wood. The heartwood is first pale yellow but then turns light to dark brown. A naturally oiled item of oak furniture has a deep, warm colour surface. A clear matt lacquer item of oak furniture develops a beautiful, light grey tint. Ash Ash is a strong and very hard type of wood that can vary somewhat in terms of its colour from light yellow to light grey. A lacquered or oiled item of ash furniture develops a shiny and very characteristic surface. 34

You can highlight an item of furniture with any of our colour stains. Clear matt lacquer/natural lacquer We use environmentally-friendly, water-based lacquer, which provides a durable, intact surface that remains beautiful year after year. Our traditional natural lacquer produces a softer surface, while our clear matt lacquer has a structure that highlights the wood grain. Oil An old, well-tested handicraft. A surface that is treated with oil produces a natural wood feel which can be maintained with the right type of care. In order to produce as light a tint as possible, we normally use a so-called white oil. If you want a natural oil instead, specify natural oil. STAIN Stain If you appreciate solid wood, but still want a more colourful product, you can select one of our 10 different stain colours. 35
