We start every meeting with a social hour at 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. our auction begins. Then at 7:15 we start our membership meeting that consists of: Door Prize Drawings (Junior and Adult), General Business, Short Program, and Live Auction (must be a member to enter items in the auction & limit of 5 items per meeting). YN s have their program at every meeting. Like to dismiss before 8:45 if at all possible. From the Editor s Desk January is quickly coming to an end and February is upon us. And the passing months bring winter weather. Remember, we do not have a meeting if Springfield Public Schools cancel school. The YN Auction was a great success. The YNs had a fun time bidding against each other and adding to their collections. Nancy tells me the club s officer election is coming up in April. She wants everyone to know that EVERY officer position is available. She thinks new blood would be a great thing. So be thinking about that. I ve trying a new column in this month s edition. Hopefully, it will help you plan your monthly club activities. Hope to see everyone at the next meeting. 2 Ozarks Coin Club Minutes January 5, 2016 Our monthly meeting was held at the Discovery Center. Social hour began promptly with pizza from Incredible Pizza. Thank you to Juan Alexander and Ann Rude for bringing desert. There were 45 adults and 14 youth present, for a total of Fifty-nine (59). The YN auction started at 6:30 p.m. and ended at 7:07 p.m. Thank you Jim Griffin for conducting the auction, Jerry Moyer and Jeff McFarland for assisting. Ryan Nateghi received his award from the December banquet. He received a Silver Maple. The auction started at 7:07 p.m. and ended at 7:51 p.m. Thank you Jim Griffin for conducting the auction, Don Feer, Don Eggerman and George Wait for assisting. The meeting was called to order at 8:06 p.m. by our President Nancy Redman. Everyone voiced they enjoyed the pizza. Please give Judy Carman suggestions for the type of toppings you prefer. Nancy welcomed our new members Russell and Nancy Samay. Coin Club membership dues are due this month. Please mail in your payment or give your payment to Nancy. June and Pat Trigg thanked everyone for the get well card. September 10th will be our picnic. Please save the date in your calendar. DRAWINGS: The following items were won as door prizes. You must be present to win a door prize. 3 Ozark Coin Club Board Meeting January 14, 2016 Present: Kathy Kirwin, Judy Carman, Jim Carman, Nancy Redman, Jim Griffin, Shirley Nicholson, Bob Nicholson, Jeff McFarland and Jerry Moyer. Meeting called to order by our president Nancy Redman at 6:14 p.m year s presentations: January YN Auction February Ed Mayer March Scott Schulz April May Jeff McFarland June July August September Picnic (Sept 10) October November Double Auction December - Banquet Jeff informed the board of the North Arkansas Coin Show. The show will be June this year. He thought the club may want to take a bus with club members to the show. Jerry presented recommendations for the 2016 year. Jerry asked for money for the upcoming year. He would like to receive half of the money now and half at a later date. Jerry and Jeff would like $6,000 this year. They spent $ this past year. There was lots of discussion. It was decided to table this vote until the treasurer and additional board members are in attendance. Judy discussed pens for advertising. Judy brought several options adding only a few of the pens come in our club colors. Judy showed examples of the wording we can place on the pen. It was suggested the pen should list the name of our club, the place we meet and the time we meet. We picked 3 pen styles. Judy will call Hutchins and discuss cost. We had discussion concerning door prizes. Jim Griffin made a motion that the club minutes will only include the door prize and no longer list the names of the winner. Bob seconded the motion. The motion carried. Tables and chair discussion: After discussion our most urgent need is a table rack. Nancy will purchase the table rack. Jim Carman stated he has received the contract from the fair grounds for the 2016 show. 5 Golden Eagles On January 14, the Golden Eagles met at the Golden Corral on North Kansas Expressway. Attending were Judy and Jim Carman, Shirley and Bob Nicholson, Bonnie and Don Eggerman, Pat and Jim Wells, Sandy and Jim Tower, Betty and Bob Grace, Judy and Jerry Schweitzer, Nancy and Russ Samay, Jeff McFarland, Jerry Moyer, Jim Griffin, Harry Waterson, and Nancy Redman for a total of 21. Harry shared two medals concerning Drury College Centennial. One was in acrylic and the other, you guessed it, Harry hammered it out of the acrylic. Harry is seeking any information he can get about Noble and Associates, who are responsible for this medal. Judy Carman received an unc Washington Presidential dollar that Jim Griffin donated. 8 Coin of the Month Mark Twain Commemorative Coins Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who adopted the pen name Mark Twain, is one of the best known authors in American literature. Clemens was born on Nov. 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri. As a young man, he held several jobs, including printer's apprentice, riverboat pilot and miner, before establishing himself as a writer and journalist. Some noteworthy facts about Mark Twain are: there are 6,500 editions of his work in 75 languages. And nearly every book he wrote is still in print. The gold coin's obverse design features a portrait of Mark Twain with the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "2016" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The reverse design depicts a steamboat on the Mississippi River. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "$5," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The silver coin's obverse design features a portrait of Mark Twain holding a pipe with the smoke forming a silhouette of Huck Finn and Jim on a raft in the background. Inscriptions are "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2016." The reverse design features an assortment of characters leaping to life from Mark Twain's works: the knight and horse from "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court," the frog from "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," and Jim and Huck from "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
