2 CONTEMPORARY AND MODERNIST DESIGNS INSPIRED BY THE RICH LEGACIES OF MEXICO AND LATIN AMERICA Armed with a passion to highlight modernist Mexican design, we uphold the traditions of midcentury craftsmanship while making use of advanced production techniques to create pieces that are timeless, beautiful and detailed in their manufacture. We want to build on Mexico s illustrious design legacy and be relevant to its ever-evolving present. Our creations are not only a seamless hybrid of minimal silhouettes, but also concurrently infused with tenets of Mexican craft. Our design-driven pieces evoke an emotional response that stems from their rich cultural legacies they are architectural and warm all at once. 4 DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE IN MEXICO CITY Every Luteca piece is meticulously finished by hand. We don t cut corners to manufacture massproduced furniture. Our stainless steel coffee tables can take up to 300 hours of polishing, while wooden pieces are made from sustainable hardwoods, which are carefully handpicked and color matched to provide the exact design features that we desire. 5 COLLECTIONS Our inaugural collection is formed by two lines: one devoted to the iconic oeuvre of Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and the other comprised of our creative director Alexander Andersson s contemporary designs. Ramírez Vázquez was a pioneer of sustainable architecture and was already concerned with minimizing waste long before it was a trend. His deceptively simple, yet highly complex geometric designs cross industrial design with architecture in a manner that was way before its time. In contrast, Andersson s creations draw from his childhood when he was surrounded by Scandinavian design. By fusing these aspects with references to his Mexican heritage, Andersson s pieces are both uniquely exciting and timelessly familiar. Equipal Chair

A ONE MAN MID-CENTURY POWERHOUSE Alexander Andersson was born in Sweden and grew up surrounded by some of the best mid-century design and craftsmanship in the world. After learning early on that good furniture design is made to last for generations, he moved to his mother s homeland of Mexico and immersed himself in learning the art of hand craftsmanship. While uncovering the rich history of Mexico City, Andersson came across the astonishing unknown furniture collections of Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and was granted first-ever access to Ramírez Vázquez s furniture design archive just before the icon s death at age 94. Andersson s unique sense for detail, mixed with Scandinavian restraint and a distinct Mexican flavor, give his pieces a modern perspective on timeless and classic designs. His aesthetic is independent of time and trend and pulls from a wealth of cultural influences from around the world. Andersson uses his design know-how and production expertise to curate and direct Luteca s captivating collections. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez is regarded as one of the most well-respected cultural figures of the 20th century. With an architecture career spanning more than six decades, Ramírez Vázquez is responsible for designing some of the country s most iconic modernist landmarks, including the Museum of Anthropology, the Basilica of Guadalupe and the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, as well as being the visual designer of the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. Ramírez Vázquez dreamed of a modern Mexico and worked tirelessly to shape the city and the country through pioneering architecture and design. He believed in creating experiences, not just spaces, and that architecture was for the people, and not one person s fame. The Ramírez Vázquez pieces manufactured by Luteca carry that philosophy and are meticulously handcrafted so that they can be enjoyed as enduring distillations of modernist Mexican design.
