2 2019 Ingham County 4-H Still Life Workshop Sessions *Cloverbuds (ages 5-7) may only register for Cloverbud Corner 3-D Box Cards (1 hour) Learn how to make a unique greeting card that is in the shape of a box. Then have items that pop out of the box! 4-H Bracelets (½ hour) Offered at: 11:30 Use a variety of beads to make a special 4-H bracelet. 4-H Necklaces (½ hour) Create a unique 4-H necklace using a variety of beads. Basket Weaving (1 hour) Are you interested in learning about the basics of Basket Weaving? This session will be an introduction where you can learn the basics and go home with a woven placemat. Braided Placemats (1 hour) Would you like to learn the technique of braiding fabric and turning it into a rug or placemat? Participants will create a placemat. Breads & Pies (½ hour) Offered at: 12:30 In this session, you will learn about different breads, including quick breads and yeast breads, as well as different pies and their various crusts.
3 Chocolate Snacks (½ hour) Offered at: 10:30 Come and learn how to make cute and delicious chocolate-dipped snacks. *Cloverbud Corner (4 hours) This session is just for 5-7 year olds and will consist of two cycles, with the children rotating through three 40-minute sessions during each cycle. Each session within the cycle will have a different topic, as follows: Cycle 1 (9:00-11:00): Art Building Games Cycle 2 (11:00-1:00): Art Foods Movement Each session will consist of a couple activities to keep the youngsters engaged and allow them to explore a variety of projects! Parents are encouraged to stay with their children Communicating with Auction Buyers (1 hour) Effectively communicate with your buyer, from your buyers letter to face-to-face meetings and thank you cards. Learn about other communication pieces that can be used to promote your 4-H projects. Crochet (1 hour) Make a crochet bracelet from a chain stitch. Learn to chain and, if time, work on single and double crochet stitches. There will be ideas for projects available. Cupcake and Cookie Decorating (1 hour) Make fun cupcakes and cookies! Frost and decorate them with candies and other tasty items. Ages 8 and older Duct Tape Designs (½ hour) Offered at: 9:30, 11:30 Come explore the fun you can make with duct tape and make a tote bag! Please bring at least 2 rolls of duct tape in the designs you would like your tote bag made of
4 Dyeing with Plants (½ hour + ½ hour) Offered at: 9:30 (second half at 11:30) Did you know you can make fabric dye from plants? Come learn different shibori (or tiedye) techniques and how to make dye from plants! Participants will be able to dye a silk scarf and play silk square. $5 fee for scarves NOTE - This is a two part session meeting at 9:30 and 11:30 DYI Spa Treatments (1 hour) Create your own at-home spa items, such as: lip balm, foot soaks, bath fizzies, bath salt, lip scrub, body scrubs, and lotion. Each of these items will use all natural ingredients. Bring your own containers for foot soaks and lotion Flower Arranging (1 hour), 12:00 Build a flower arrangement with flowers supplied following design techniques that are taught. Try a new project that will encourage you to give bouquets to family and friends, plus a new opportunity to exhibit at the Fair. Flowers, greens and containers will be provided Bring scissors for cutting stems $6 fee for flowers Frosting Flowers (1 hour) Learn how to make beautiful flowers with frosting! You will learn how to make roses, dahlias, lily of the valley, and drop flowers. Genealogy 101 (1 hour), 10:00 Each participant will be given a pedigree chart and a family group sheet. Working in cooperative learning groups of 4-6 participants, you will brainstorm possible resources available for finding the information needed to complete the two worksheets, discussing the pros and cons of each resource. The session will end with a large group discussion about possible reasons for researching family history/genealogy.
5 Getting to Know Plant Sciences! (1 hour) Have you ever wondered what cool things you can do in plant sciences? Find out in this session! Gift Bags & Cards (1 hour) Make your own gift bag for a gift and then make a card to match! Graphic Novels (1 hour) Bring ideas or started books, or come and get ideas. Let s work together to write a story with pictures. You can work alone or with a partner. Heart to 4-H Frames (½ hour) Use puzzle pieces to make your own heart frame. ICF 4-H Still Life Sale (½ hour), 10:30 Wow! The 4-H Still Life Sale was an amazing opportunity for 4-H ers last year! Now, you are thinking about exhibiting a project in the Sale at the Ingham County Fair in 2019! You no doubt have questions about the whole process. We will orient you to the details of this opportunity and answer your questions in this session. Get ideas for projects to make and learn marketing techniques to effectively sell your creation. Introduction to Archery (1 hour), 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 Would you like to learn how to shoot an arrow? Bullseye! This session will give you the opportunity to learn about target and 3-D archery events in the 4-H Shooting Sports program. Your instructor will discuss equipment and targets used in archery, demonstrate basic techniques, and give you the chance to practice your new skills by shooting at targets. Ages 9 and older Equipment will be supplied, do not bring your own
6 Introduction to BB & Pellet Rifle (1 hour), 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 Interested in learning about the many opportunities in the 4-H Shooting Sports program? This session is a great introduction to the abundant possibilities in shooting sports. Focusing on BB and pellet rifles, the session will include discussion of equipment and targets, demonstration of basic shooting techniques, and an opportunity to try shooting! You will also learn about other rifle disciplines that are offered in Ingham County 4-H. Ages 9 and older Equipment will be supplied, do not bring your own Iris Folding (1 hour) Make a Valentine s Day card using the iris folding technique. Iris folding uses strips to make the card look like a lens. Korean Language (1 hour) Have you heard of K-pop music? Or watched Korean dramas? Korean pop culture has become a global trend. And learning the language is easier than you d think! Learn the Korean alphabet, Hangul, and you will be able to write your name in Korean. Leather Crafting (1 hour), 10:00, 12:00 In this session, you will learn how to tool and dye leather and will make keychains and bracelets. Macrame (½ hour), 12:00 Learn basic macramé techniques. Twine and beads will be provided for you to make a bracelet. Painting with Yarn & Sponges (1 hour) Utilize yarn, sponges, a canvas, and paint to create your own work of art.
7 Paper Quilling (½ hour), 10:00, 12:00, 12:30 Quilling is an art in which colorful strips of paper are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. Come learn the basic shapes and explore the possibilities of this beautiful art form. Photography 101 (½ hour), 11:00 Learn the terminology for photography and find out what a judge is looking for in your photos. Rangoli: Decorative Indian Art (1 hour), 12:00 This is a form of Indian art made with colors, flowers or spices. The word Rangoli originates from Rang, which means color. Different colorful designs are generally painted on the floor and it symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. Here we will have different designs on papers which will be decorated with spices and some glittering flakes. Repurposed Quilt Squares (1 hour) Learn to hand stitch on your own quilt square. Scandinavian Heart Ornaments (½ hour) In this session, you will take felt and cut out two shapes and then learn how to weave the shapes together to make a heart Smoothies (1 hour) Look at all different kinds of beverages that kids like and then make a smoothie to taste and enjoy! String Art (½ hour) Offered at: 10:30 Learn how to make a string art picture with thread on cardstock.
8 Teen Leadership (½ hour) Offered at: 12:30 Would you like to be a teen leader in your 4-H club? Are you already mentoring younger members? You can be a 4-H teen leader! In this session, you will learn how to take the initiative to become an effective leader and create a productive, fun atmosphere in your club. We will also help you keep records of your accomplishments for resume and award applications. Be sure to bring pictures of you working with members in your club or exhibiting your projects. Ages 12 and older Bring pictures of your involvement in your club or project area The Art of Paint (1 hour), 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 In this session, you will learn the difference between different painting techniques. We will be focusing on watercolor and acrylic paints and comparing the two mediums. We will also talk about different effects that can be done with each style, as well as discuss different aspects of color and lighting. You will also have the opportunity to choose between the watercolor and acrylic styles and, with the skills you learned, create a masterpiece of your own! Trick Photography (½ hour), 12:00 Experiment with different household items to add an extra edge to your photos and make them pop! Ages 12 and older T-Shirt Rugs (1 hour) Spend time turning old t-shirts into a simple small woven rug. Tying Fishing Flies (1 hour) Learn about the tools necessary to tie your own fishing flies and create a fly to take home with you! Wood Door Hangers (½ hour) Offered at: 9:30 Make your door festive as you decorate a wooden door hanger to hang from your doorknob.
