5 INTRODUCTION Our thanks for your purchase of this Autocutter CT620Exa. The unique feature of this autocutter is that material you print on A4, B4, A3, A3 wide or A4 wide sheets such as business cards, postcards or tickets can be loaded in this cutter to produce the exact amount of items you need. This autocutter delivers high precision and great productivity thanks to a unique paper transfer technique developed in-house at NJRC. You will?nd this autocutter adaptable to a wide range of applications in your business. 6 Sec 1 Overview 1. Observe these precautions Warning This symbol indicates information that if ignored may cause death or serious injury to the machine operator and others. Caution This symbol indicates information that if ignored may cause damage to the machine or injury to machine operator and others. Please keep the following points in mind in order to use the autocutter safely and correctly. Warning 1. Do not install the autocutter close to potential sources of heat such as forced-air heaters, kerosene stoves, infl ammable solvent or direct sunlight. These are a potential fi re hazards. Warning 2. Do not dismantle or otherwise modify the machine. This may lead to injury due to contact with the cutting blade inside the machine or from electric shocks or fi re, etc. Warning 3. Turn off the power before attempting to clear up paper jams (paper blockages) or before cleaning the machine. Also, be sure not to cut your fi ngers on the cutting blade inside the machine. Warning 4. Insert the plug fully into the electrical outlet (socket). Failure to do so creates a fi re and electrical shock hazard. Do not touch with moist hands since this might cause electrical shocks. Warning 5. Provide separate single-phase 100 and 240 volt 10 amp power sources. Using other than the these specifi ed voltages might result in fi re or electrical shock hazards. Use a grounded power outlet (socket) to eliminate the danger of shock in case of electrical leakage. 2

7 Warning 6. Handle the power cable carefully. Do not place heavy objects on the power cable. Do not install the power cable near heaters. A damaged cable may cause machine failures and become a fi re or electrical shock hazard. Using excess force when bending or pulling on the power cable or attempting to modify the power cable will create fi re or electrical shock hazards. If the power cable is worn or damaged contact the dealer or service representative. Warning 7. Disconnect the power cable immediately if trouble or abnormal situations occur. Do not attempt to use the machine under abnormal conditions such as unusual sounds, odors or smoke, etc. Doing so might create fi re or electrical shock hazards. If abnormal conditions occur remove the power cable from the socket and contact your dealer or service representative. Warning 8. Do not let foreign substances penetrate inside the machine. If metal or infl ammable material get inside the machine they might create fi re or electrical shock hazards. If this happens, remove the power cable from the socket and contact your dealer or service representative. Warning 9. Do not place metals or containers with liquid inside on top of the machine. If these substances make contact with electrical parts inside the machine it might create fi re or electrical shock hazards. If such substances should get inside the machine immediately pull out the power cable and contact your dealer or service representative. Warning 10. Always fi rst turn off the power before attempting to replace the rotary blade. Failure to do may result in injuries and/or electrical shock. Warning 11. Do not let your hands or fi ngers near the paper feed area while the tray is rising. You might be injured if your fi ngers become caught in the machine. 3

8 Caution 1. Do not install the machine in areas with high temperatures and humidity or low temperatures and humidity. Do not install in locations subject to direct air fl ow from an air conditioner. Caution 2. Do not install the machine in areas where volatile gases such as ammonia might be generated. Caution 3. Do not install the machine in locations that are unstable or not level (within 1 degree of surface level). Doing so may cause the printer to fall over and sustain damage. Do not install in locations with large amounts of dust. Caution 4. Leave an adequate space around the outlet (socket) so the power plug can be quickly pulled out in an emergency. Caution 5. Do not open any part of the printer during operation. Doing so may cause equipment malfunctions or abnormal operation. Caution 6. Be sure to disconnect all external cables before attempting to move the machine. A damaged power cable might cause fi res or electrical shocks. Caution 7. Grip the power cable by the plug body when pulling it out of the electrical outlet (socket). Never attempt to remove it by pulling on the cord. A damaged power cable might cause fi res or electrical shocks. 4

9 Caution 8. Keep the power plug clean. Check for any damage or dirt on the power plug by disconnecting it from the socket at periodic intervals. Damaged cables or accumulated dirt or grime on the cable might cause fi res or electrical shocks. Check! Advice 1. Cleaning the printer at regular intervals is strongly recommended. Dirt, dust or grime that accumulate on or around the machine might badly effect machine performance. Clean the machine at regular scheduled maintenance periods. 2. Labels attached to the machine Various yellow warning and caution labels can be seen on the machine. These labels give important information on machine operation and daily maintenance that require particular attention. In the unlikely event a component is missing or the outer case is scratched, please contact the store where you purchased it or your dealer. 12 INSTALLATION Installation space Make sure you have enough space as shown in the drawing for operating the machine and other jobs like replacing the rotary blades or maintenance inspections. Installation location Observe the following precautions when installing the machine. Avoid installing the machine in the following locations which may cause equipment breakdowns or endanger safety. Locations with high temperatures, high humidity or low temperatures, low humidity. Locations subject to sudden changes in humidity and/or temperature. Locations in direct sunlight. Locations near sparks or heat. Operating Environment Temperature: 10 to 30 Temperature changes: Less than 10 per hour Humidity: 20 to 80%RH Locations where machine is directly exposed to wind such as from coolers, heaters or vents. Locations where volatile gases such as ammonia are emitted. Locations that are not level or that do not have a sturdy fl oor. Locations where electrical leakage or fl uid splashes might occur. Locations with large amounts of dust or vibration. Locations near curtains or infl ammable materials. Caution When carrying this machine always use at least 2 people and hold it by the carry grips on the cutting waste container section. Do not carry it by holding the rotary blade grip or the shaft on the upper side of the feed unit. Caution After the machine is installed, clamp the front casters (2 locations) by lowering the lever to lock the casters so the machine cannot move. Power supply Comply with the following points to ensure safe power supply operation and prevent the machine from malfunctioning. Use caution since using other electrical appliances from the same electrical outlet may exceed the power supply current rating. In particular avoid using with machines that consume large amounts of current (instantaneous current surges) such as large DC motors and copy machines. Use in locations not subject to large voltage fl uctuations. 13 Setup before operation Always make the following setup before attempting to operate the device. Take the accessories out of the waste cutting paper hopper and connect the accessories according to the instructions in this manual. Open up the waste cutting paper hopper bag and set it in the cutting waste hopper. Place the cutting waste hopper inside the machine and close the top cover. Cautions during use Observe the following points to obtain maximum use from this machine. Do not place heavy objects on the machine. Do not apply shocks to the machine. If the machine becomes abnormally hot or emits abnormal sounds, promptly remove the power cord. Do not place the machine near magnets. Do not let metal objects such as clips or staples fall into the machine through gaps in the external case. Do not use infl ammable spray around the machine. Do not cut off the power while the machine is cutting. Using devices like radio or TVs from the same electrical outlet may cause noise to be emitted from those devices during cutting. Do not handle with moist hands since this might cause electrical shock. Keep in a place out of the reach of children. If not using for extended periods, always remove the power cord plug from the outlet (socket) to ensure safety. Other cautions during operation Cautions when handing the machine. When carrying this machine always use at least 2 people and hold it by the carry grips on the bottom of the unit. Do not place objects on this machine during cutting. The upper section of the feed unit has an air exhaust vent for suctioning air from the paper so placing an object on this unit will disable the paper feed. CAUTION Always read this instruction manual to ensure this machine is used safely. 9

14 1. AUTOCUTTER PAPER Paper types and weights (thickness) Use the following table as a guide when selecting paper types and weights (thickness) that can be used for paper cutting. Check the paper curl before using To ensure cutting performance, place the paper on a level mount (or stand) and check the amount of paper curl. Use only paper with a curl of less than 5 mm on the upper (or lower) side. Using paper with a curl of 5 mm or more may cause irregular cutting precision. Handling the paper Using paper with heavy electrostatic charges or extremely slippery paper or specially treated paper may sometimes cause paper blockages or feed errors or cutting mistakes. Make sure you use the correct paper before starting work. Avoid storing the paper in the following locations. Locations with high heat and/or humidity, locations exposed to direct sunlight, locations with large quantities of dust, locations with sparks, locations subject to sudden changes in temperature or humidity. To prevent paper jams or blockages, set the paper in the feed tray after opening the package. Paper with a large amount of curl may cause paper jams or feed errors. Correct the curl in the paper by hand and then set it in place. Use only the same type of paper when setting paper in the feed tray. Using different types of paper at the same time may cause paper feed errors or paper jams. Using the autocutter in high temperature - high heat environments may cause paper wrinkles, curls or paper damage, etc. If such problems occur, switch to an air-conditioned environment. Printing on paper containing the powder used in offset printing may cause paper feed errors or paper jams. Paper compatibility range within specs. 10

LONG BLADES & ROTARY BLADES The cutting blade in this machine automatically cuts to a specifi ed fi nish paper sized using 2 types of blades: a long blade (fi xed type: long-life) and rotary blade (unit replaceable type). The long blade makes a vertical cut (height cut) along the paper feed direction as seen from the front of the machine. The rotary blade makes a horizontal (side) cut along the paper feed direction as seen from the front of the machine. Perform the cutting and adjustments after fi rst fi nding out the direction the blade cuts along. LONG BLADE (vertical cut) Makes a vertical cut (height cut : length) across the paper feed direction. ROTARY BLADE (side cut) Makes a horizontal cut (side cut : width) along the paper feed direction. 11

19 5. CUTTING SEQUENCE Flow of the cutting operation To make full use of machine performance, carry out the cutting job as shown in the sequence fl ow below. 15

20 6. SETUP FOR OPERATION How to set the paper feed tray 1. Insert the edge of the feed tray guide at an angle below the inner locator pin at the insertion slot so that the green label of the feed tray guide lines up with the green label on the insertion slot (see drawing). 2. Set so that the groove on the feed tray guide lines up with the outer locator pin. 3. If set correctly, the lower edge of the mark for the (paper) feed unit clamp position on the main unit side will match the feed tray insertion slot position. 4. Set the paper feed tray rear edge clamp on the feed tray. 16

21 How to set the eject tray Install or replace the eject tray as shown next to match the cutting job. 22 How to replace the eject tray Remove or install the eject tray as shown next to match the cutting job. 1. Insert the upper hooks on the eject tray into the insertion slot and then press the lower prongs on the tray downward as shown. 2. Eject tray for standard items is shown at right. Install the same as the optional tray. To remove the tray, pull the prongs on the lower part of the eject tray towards you and then pull outwards to free the upper hooks.. How to install the business card divider 1. Insert the hooks on the business card divider into the 2 slots on the back side and 2 slots on the bottom of the standard eject tray. How to install the business card guide plates Install the business card dividers after reading the information above. Set the business card guide plates between the dividers as shown. Set the guide plates facing right between 2 dividers (outer side) as shown. Set the guide plates facing left between 2 dividers (outer side) as shown. How to install the postcard guide plate 1. Place the postcard guide plate on the bottom of the standard eject tray as shown. Set protruding side of postcard guide facing upward as shown. 18

23 Installing & removing the rotary blade How to install 1. Set the rotary holding pin (2 locations) into the rotary blade unit locator hole. 2. Securely tighten the 2 clamping pins (2 locations) to clamp the rotary blade unit. Caution If the rotary blade 2 clamping pins (2 locations) are not securely tightened, paper jams and cutting defects might occur. 3. Close the top cover. How to remove 1. Turn the power switch off (O side). 2. Raise the top cover release bar and open the top cover. 3. Loosen the clamping screws (2 locations). 19

24 4. Grip the rotary blade unit with both hands as shown and slowly raise it upwards. Caution When storing the rotary blade unit, make sure the storage location is free of sand, dust, grit and moisture that might attach to the unit. These particles can cause cutting performance to deteriorate and shorten the service life of the rotary blade unit. Warning Always turn the power to OFF (O side) when replacing the rotary blade unit. How to set the paper Riffl e the cutting paper. This is especially important to do on thick paper. Using paper with heavy electrostatic charges or extremely slippery paper or specially treated paper may sometimes cause paper blockages or feed errors or cutting mistakes. Make sure the correct paper is prepared before starting work. Remove the feed tray rear clamp. Depress the (paper) feed tray release bar and lower the feed tray. Lowering the feed tray as far as it will go allows loading 500 sheets with a thickness of 0.12mm (fi ne paper 788x1091mm:90kg) up to 60mm thickness can be used. Caution To set paper in the paper feed tray, always depress the feed tray release bar to lower the tray. Also, when adding paper to the feed tray also be sure to lower the tray. If you add paper without lowering the feed tray, then the paper feed might not work normally and the main unit might be damaged. 20

25 4. Loosen the right and left paper guide clamp screws and move them outwards. 5. Set the paper in the machine center as shown while watching the Paper set position adjust scale. Align the paper guides on both sides with the width of the paper and then tighten the paper guide clamp screws. Caution Cutting defects and paper jams may occur if the paper guides are not exactly lined up with the paper. Also, if the guides are pushed to tight against the paper then paper feed problems may occur. The amount of paper you load should be below the upper limit label attached to the rear sheet guide. Install the feed tray rear clamp so it matches 6. the paper size. [Reference] Pressing the Start/Stop switch makes the feed tray automatically rise to the paper feed position and starts the cutting. Caution Do not try to forcefully press or hold down the paper feed tray while it is rising. This could cause equipment breakdowns. 21

26 7. Cutting the paper Before you start cutting Before you start the actual cutting job, make a test cut to fi nd if there is any deviation between the cutting position (up/down direction) and printed surface. If the printed surface and cutting position don t match then you must align the paper feed unit position. Test Cut 1. After setting the paper, fi rst of all check if the control panel is in standby mode. Note : In standby mode the... LCD panel : shows start-ok LED lamp : Power lamp is lit READY lamp : Error lamp is off Ready A3+ Name_C 2. After checking the unit is in standby mode, press the START/STOP switch while holding down the ENTER switch at the same time. 3. A test cut of just 1 sheet is made and it is stacked in the eject tray. Check the business card size and see if the printed surface matches the cutting position. The test cut is only made on 1 sheet of paper, so you must repeat this task when aligning the cutting position. If the cutting stops during the test cut then press the START/STOP switch to restart the test cut. Aligning the cutting position (feed unit front & rear direction) 1. After making the test cut, check if the business card cutting position has deviated upwards or downwards. Fig. A : Cutting position has deviated upwards versus the print position. 27 2. Turn the Paper Position Fine Adjust knob & scale and move the feed unit forwards or rearwards as needed. If the cut position has deviated upwards, then turn the knob upwards. Likewise if the cut position has deviated downwards, then turn the knob downwards. 3. Adjust for the deviation while using the cut position scale as a guide. Fine adjustments can be made to approximately ±1 mm. Note: If the cut position and print position do not match during this adjustment then see, Setting the paper on P.20 and reset the paper. Then remake the cutting position alignment. Note: To make fi ne adjustments for vertical cutting (standing cut with long blade) versus the paper feed direction, see Setting the cutting length on P.40 23

28 Starting the cutting Start cutting using the following sequence. 1. Press the START/STOP switch on the control panel. Pressing this switch automatically raises the paper to the paper feed position and cutting of the paper set in the feed tray can start. The cut paper is stacked in the eject tray. Note: To pause the cutting, press the Start/ Stop switch again. 2. Slide the eject tray business card stack outwards (towards you). 3. Take the business cards out of the tray. Note: Inspect the waste paper hopper below the main unit at regular intervals (each time you cut a stack of paper). See P.27 for more information on handling cutting waste paper. 4. Turn off the power switch when fi nished with the cutting job. [Reference] When cutting paper you can set SHEET CUT COUNT that lets you specify the number of sheets you want to cut or you can set CUT ALL that cuts all the loaded paper. This is handy for separating cutting according to the jobs you are doing. (See P.34) 24

30 3. If paper is jammed up on the outer side (right side of long blade) of the long blade. Remove the paper on the outer side (long blade - right side) of the long blade. 4. If paper jam has progressed beyond the long blade (left side of long blade) If a paper jam has occurred during long blade operation and the paper has stopped right after (or while) cut by the long blade, then tear the paper from the long blade section to remove it. Pull out the paper in the direction of the arrows from the near side and far sides of the long blade as shown, and also remove any remaining paper. In conditions demand it, you may have to remove the rotary blade cutter in order to extract the paper. (See P. 19) Caution When a paper jam occurs, several sheets of paper might sometimes be remaining inside the machine. Remove all these sheets of paper from inside the machine. 5. Close the top cover. When an error occurs during cutting operation, and the number of cut sheets when the error occurred appears on the LCD. When using "Sheet Cut Count", fi rst clear the error, and after turning power on again, enter the remaining number of sheets you have cut on the control panel. 26

31 Handling the cutting waste paper Always dispose of the cutting paper waste once a day after work is fi nished by using the following procedure. On days with a lot of paper cutting work, check the level of cutting waste in side the cutting waste hopper by looking in the inspection window and dispose of the cutting waste as required. (The amount of cutting waste produced differs according to whether you are using a long blade or rotary blade.) 1. Turn off the power (O side). 2. Check the level of waste cutting paper from the inspection window. 3. Open the front cover by gripping the front cover latch. 4. Take the waste paper out of the hopper and dispose of the cutting paper inside the box. 5. Return the cutting waste hopper to the machine and close the front cover. Caution If the cutting waste overfl ows inside the hopper, cutting performance will drop (paper jams and cutting defects). In worst cases, the rotary blade may break. Dispose of the cutting waste once a day. [Reference] The waste bag in the hopper for holding the cutting waste is a replaceable item. If you need more waste bags contact the dealer where you bought the machine. 27

32 8. ERROR MESSAGE LIST & ACTION TO TAKE When an error occurs in this machine, the error LED lights up and an error tone sounds at the same time. An error code and error message or troubleshooting advice appear on the LCD display. After checking the error message, turn off the power switch and take measures to cancel the error. When troubleshooting is fi nished, close the cover and turn the power back on. 33 9. DAILY CARE OF THE MACHINE Service the machine daily to ensure satisfactory machine operation. In particular clean the Retard pads - Paper feed roller - Sensor at the following intervals to maintain performance. If infl ammable solvents make contact with electronic components inside the machine then fi re or electrical shocks might occur. Caution Take care not to drop metal objects such as paper clips or staples inside the machine. Do not spill water, fl uids or infl ammable solvents (benzene, thinner, etc.) inside the machine. If electronic components inside the machine make contact with these fl uids then fi re or electrical shock might occur. Caution Do not use organic solvents or spray detergents, etc. Using these might cause color loss on the outer case of the machine. 29

34 Cleaning the Paper conveyor retard pads - Paper feed roller - Sensors in the paper conveyor Always turn the power switch off when cleaning these components. Cleaning the paper feed roller (Clean once every 1,000 sheets) 1. Raise the top cover release lever and open the top cover. 2. Soak the rubber roller (black) and plastic roller (white) on top cover side, and upper/lower eject rollers behind the rotary blade in a rag dipped in anhydrous alcohol. How to clean the sensors (clean once a week) Wipe away dirt from the lens surface of the top cover sensors as shown in the drawing gently with an item such as a cotton swab. Note : The sensitivity of the sensor will diminish if paper residue attaches to the lens surface and may trigger faulty paper jam detection. How to clean the retard pads (Clean once every 500 sheets) The retard pads can be cleaned by passing 2 sheets of fi ne white paper over them. Retard pads are important components because they prevent the paper from overlapping on one another during paper feed. If paper residue gets on these pads the paper feed function will deteriorate badly. Clean the retard pads once every 500 sheets (have passed through them). Cleaning the outside of the machine After wiping the paper feed tray and outer case with a wrung out rag that was dipped in water, proceed to dry those parts. 30
