Interviewee: Miss Ann Kiely Interviewer: 4D Poon Hiu Wai What is the book about? It was in the 19 th century, England, when the Industrial Revolution was taking place. The main female character was Margaret Hale, an independently minded young lady. She moved from the wealthy south of England to the north area. And John Thornton was a figure who lived in the north, the owner of a cotton factory. John was harsh and strict as he treated the workers cruelly and offered them with low wages. In the story, the relationship between John and Margaret was relatively tense since the lady made every attempt to provide assistance for the workers. However, as time passed by, Margaret began to realize John was a decent man, and finally they fell in love. What is your feeling after reading this book? Elizabeth Gaskell wrote the story in an aesthetic manner and I enjoy every chapter. I admire Margaret's power as she expresses her views without any apprehension. She is a role model of braveness, integrity and high-level self-esteem. The aim of this book is to show how the poor were disrespected by the upper class in the 19 th century; as well, the author reveals the unfair treatment of workers during the revolution. Why do you recommend this story? Since it is a long story with 521 pages, students must have patience to read it. Or you may watch a mini TV series of this story produced by BBC-Miniseries ahead so that you can have a general idea of the plots. Particularly, I encourage those, who are interested in England, life of the poor or Industrial Revolution, to read this novel. Hope all of you would enjoy North and South!

What is the main idea of the book? The book was written by a 15-year-old boy, Christopher Boone, the main character of this story. He loves prime numbers so he starts every chapter with one prime number. The boy, who suffers from autism, excels in Mathematics but is weak in languages. The story begins with Christopher Boone s finding that the dog of his neighbor, Mrs. Shears, was killed mysteriously. Afterwards, Christopher s papa tells him that his mother has died and then buying him a new dog. Driven by curiosity, Christopher investigates the case through reading the letters of his mother secretly. To his surprise, he senses that his papa actually told a lie. Her mother has gone to a far place and already started a new family with his neighbor; the neighbor s dog was, in fact, killed by Christopher s papa. Realizing all these truths, Christopher is desperate and thereby suffering from severe mental illness. Interviewee: Miss Fuk Ming Ting Interviewer: 4E Wong Hiu Man Why do you recommend this book? The story can be more appealing since it was written by a 15-year-old boy. In this book, it is advised that every fact needs to be reconsidered by us instead of simply believing it. With some mathematical pictures and emojis in this story, you will be attracted and immersed even though you are not a book lover.

What's the book talking about? Twilight is a series of vampire-themed novels written by Stephenie Meyer. There are four parts in the series including Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. In the story, Bella Swan falls in love with Edward Cullen, a 104-year-old vampire. Obviously, the love between the mankind and the vampire would be beset with difficulties. However, neither of them gives up. Instead, they make their utmost to fight with the troubles, and finally succeed. At last, Bella marries Edward and gives birth to her daughter Renesmee; meanwhile, she becomes a vampire. How does this book inspire me? This book is really meaningful. Love is very powerful and there is no limitation in love. Although Edward is not a human being, Bella still chooses to love him, tries hard to overcome all difficulties, and even turns into a vampire at the end of the story. I am greatly touched by this book. Moreover, in each chapter, the author skillfully adopts the view of one character to tell the story. Not only does this unique technique of narration give me a deeper understanding of the book, it also enables me to experience the true feelings of the characters. In conclusion, Twilight is an appealing story and I would like to recommend it to you.

What is the story about? The major character in this book is called Charlie Bucket. At the beginning of the story, it mentions a chocolate factory managed by Mr.Willy Wonka has been shut for almost 15 years. Then he decides to allow five children to visit the factory so that he can choose the most suitable one to take over his business someday. Augustus, Veruca, Violet, Mike and Charlie are the five lucky children getting the chance. Along with surprises, their journey begins. Who is your favourite character? Mr.Willy Wonka is my favorite character in this story because I think he is very cute and poor. His childhood is a nightmare among all children and that makes him a little bit weird. Also, I think he is full of talents as he creates numerous novelties -- what I always dream of!

What is the book talking about? It relates to the modern psychology, explaining the importance of keeping proper relationships with others. As the foreword states that no one could grow freely in this world and a full life without feeling understood by at least one person could never be found, it says that people are expected to live in groups. This book illustrates some interpersonal skills, such as ways of fostering flexible communication with people around, with the final target of empowering readers to learn the true sides of themselves. Why do you recommend this book? I think it is an informative book that teaches us how to handle relationships with people in an appropriate and decent way. In the past, I was really conservative and had problems in making friends. Nevertheless, after reading this book, my mind has changed. I realize the only way to build sound relationships with others is to be active. What is more, this book explains how to engage in social groups, and some methods to face adversities as well. Therefore, if you intend to improve your capabilities of handling interpersonal relationship or you are suffering from mental illness, this book is worth reading.

Comments of the book: Of Mice and Men, a novel written by John Steinbeck, won the Nobel Prize of Literature in Set in 1930s, the book tells a story of two best friends, George Milton and Lennie Small, during the great depression. George is a disabled migrant rancher worker, a man of acute intelligence but bitsy. And Lennie, is a man with limited mental abilities but great strength and large stature. They both make a pair and depend on each other. Their dream is to settle down in their own piece of land. And this is how their journey begins. However, things turn out to be different from what they have hoped. Lennie kills a woman mistakenly after being flirted by her. It marks the end of their dream. To me, it is more than a story. In fact, some key issues should be discussed after reading the book: Human fragility, dream and reality: In the story, George and Lennie s dream is to own a small farm and then work for themselves. They intend to get freedom and independence while the reality proves to be unsatisfactory, indicating the way the society works. Friendship: Can friendship last long? Some people may think that George should not shoot Lennie, while some argue George has no choice. And it depends on how you define friendship. We cannot deem that George and Lennie s friendship has been destroyed, since there's still love between them. But it's a fact that George kills Lennie. So is friendship simply a guarantee of pain? If you were George, what would you do? Of Mice and Men is a tragedy. After reading this book, a re-evaluation should be done. Last but not least, guys, treasure everything you have. And it is my sincere hope that you will explore this book by yourselves.

What is the book talking about? This book is about one of the mythologies in the world, Ancient Greek mythology. The writer employs the Gods of Ancient Greece in this story. Percy Jackson, the main character and an ordinary student, is a brave figure. To Percy s surprise, he discovers that he is the son of the Ancient Greece s God, and is then suspected as a thief. Although he finds out a big secret about his household and holds questions on whether his identity is good for him, he still attempts to fulfill his mission --- to save his clansman. It seems like an adventure in the God's world, with fight existing and crises occurring on the road to their destination. What is your view upon reading this book? I think it is an adventurous and fantasy fiction. With a humorous tone, it also contains fascinating content. In addition, it has a comprehensive layout. After reading this book, I have obtained the nature of the past through the Ancient Greek mythology, which is a really important human cultural heritage. Nowadays, most teenagers dare not dream. They are frightened by the unknown lying ahead, thus blocking the roads towards dreams by themselves. Anyone who reads the book will identify a message it brings, process weighs more than the outcome. Although it remains in question whether the main characters could realize their dreams or not, they have established great partnership when tackling difficulties and managing crises.
