Rany invente Alice, the programming environment that taught stuents from mile school to college to program while telling their stories with animate characters. He create the course Builing Virtual Worls, in which stuents learne to work in interisciplinary teams to create interactive worls. He went on to co-foun the Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center, where stuents an colleagues are inspire to combine technology an art to create new processes, tools, an vision for storytelling an entertainment. His research with colleagues in cognitive science, perception, an human-computer interaction broke new groun in unerstaning people s interactions with technology. He inspire our community to be more ambitious, more collaborative, more inclusive, an to be courageous an joyful. At Carnegie Mellon, we have always known that Rany Pausch was a truly special person. Just over a year ago, millions more became aware of Rany when he elivere a lecture that mae the worl stop an pay attention. It became an Internet sensation viewe by millions, an international meia story, an a best-selling book that has been publishe in 35 languages. To this ay, people everywhere continue to talk about Rany, share his message an put his life lessons into action in their own lives. The ignity an class with which Rany Pausch ealt with his illness an the way that he inspire so many through his last lecture is one of those events.
