Whe a voluteer, a door, a board member makes a commitmet to the life of a child, that life is reivigorated ad filled with hope for the future. Over the last year, we have become the largest ad most comprehesive agecy for childre s rights i the Southeast. Our staff of 28 icludes: 12 attoreys, 5 biligual staff, 3 master s level social workers, taleted advocates ad coutless years of collective legal ad advocacy experiece. 16 New Program Developmets Commuity of Advocates The Commuity of Advocates program works to build ad coect strategic commuities. Simply defied, strategic commuities are commuities that respod to the curret safety, health ad educatioal eeds of childre ad proactively work to impact child-servig systems ad the laws that gover them. We embarked o a collaborative process this year i Meckleburg Couty, which will serve as a model for commuities across North Carolia. Families First This year, with several commuity leaders, we iaugurated a iitiative to brig family ad paret servig orgaizatios together to better urture ad cultivate our childre s lives. Our visio is a uiversal cotiuum of resources for all parets through the etire spa of their child s developmet. We will cotiue to idetify ad fill gaps i the Meckleburg family support systems so that we ca raise the bar for all our kids. Uaccompaied Childre Together with Moore & Va Alle, we lauched a satellite office of the Natioal Ceter for Refugee ad Immigrat Childre. The Coucil facilitates provisio of legal ad social services to childre who have etered the Uited States without a paret or legal guardia. May of these childre come from traumatic situatios ofte ivolvig child traffickig or other forms of abuse. Itroducig a ew program to aid refugee childre is pivotal to our offerig a comprehesive cotiuum of services to protect the rights of all childre. Physicias Advocacy Fellowship Over the past few years, we ve worked to establish a Carolias Medical Ceter Physicias Advocacy Fellowship as part of the pediatric residecy rotatio. Residets serve i our core advocacy teams to help childre fid appropriate medical care. As a result, physicias are exposed to some of the larger challeges facig childre ad their families so that they ca better care for childre throughout their professioal careers. 16
