IWM (Imperial War Museums) is the world s leading authority on conflict and its impact, focusing on Britain, its former Empire and the Commonwealth, from the First World War to the present. Through unique Collections, vivid personal stories and powerful physical experiences, we aim to enrich people s understanding of the causes, course and consequences of modern war. Our Collection tells powerful and extraordinary stories of people and places, ideas and histories is a key year for the Museum. Originally founded to remember the First World War it will be leading the national commemoration of the centenary of the outbreak of war. The Museum has five branches as well as a strong online presence IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM LONDON Visitors can discover what life was like during the First and Second World Wars, see some of the Museum s huge art collection and learn about the darkest days of the Second World War in The Holocaust Exhibition, as well as continuing worldwide conflicts. Churchill War Rooms Housed in Churchill s wartime bunker the extensive War Rooms give the visitor a feel for life in the heart of government during the Second World War. The site also contains the Churchill Museum which chronicles Churchill s long and momentous life. HMS Belfast Europe s last surviving big-gun armoured warship of the Second World War is permanently moored opposite the Tower of London. With nine decks to explore HMS Belfast will give you a taste of war at sea. Imperial War Museum Duxford This former RAF Battle of Britain fighter station now houses the finest collection of historic military and civil aircraft in the country, from the legendary Spitfire to the supersonic Concorde. See the stunning AirSpace exhibition and experience history in the air at Duxford s Air Shows. Imperial War Museum North Housed in an awardwinning building in Manchester with thought provoking exhibitions and immersive audio-visual displays IWM North illustrates how all our lives are shaped by war.

4 As well as being a visitor destination the Museum holds extensive archives, which it is continually adding to. These archives include: 15,000 paintings, drawings and sculptures 35,000 proclamations 20,000 posters 17,000 private papers 20,000 hours of film 11 million photographs 56,000 hours of interviews

5 Ways of working with us The IWM extends its brand by working with publishers and licensees. We have a strong backlist, with total sales to date of almost 4.5 million copies. Our books range from fully illustrated art books, photography and gift books to narrative histories and children s educational and fiction titles. The Museum also lends its brand to products using or inspired by its Collections.

6 Digital Publishing The Museum s extensive and diverse Collections mean that it is very well placed to develop its digital publishing, with film, sound, photographs and art all available. Whilst it has a number of its titles already available as e-books it is moving into enhanced e-books as well as apps. This is an area the Museum is keen to grow in the coming years with products designed to support exhibitions as well as standalone products, allowing more people from around the world to interact with the Collections.
