23 Program Schedule Wednesday PROGRAM Wednesday, September 30, :00 A.M.25:00 P.M. Cascade Ballroom 1 Pre-Conference Workshop #1 BRAINSTORM EEG/MEG ANALYSIS TOOLBOX Stephan Moratti Universidad Complutense de Madrid Javier Gonzalez-Rosa Universidad Politecnica de Madrid In this pre-conference workshop we will introduce the Brainstorm EEG/MEG analyzing toolbox. This toolbox is open source and runs within the Matlab environment. However, binary compiled versions are also available that run without Matlab. In this workshop we will learn how to import EEG/MEG data and how to do standard data preprocessing with advanced artifact correction methods (such as eye-blink and heart-beat correction by signal space projection). After having explored the data we will learn how to calculate evoked responses and how to apply advanced cortical source reconstruction techniques implemented in brainstorm (wmne, sloreta, lcmv beamformer, etc.). Then, the workshop will show you how to explore your EEG data in the frequency and time-frequency domain in sensor and in cortical source space. All cortical source estimations can be exported to SPM12 compatible data structures (volumes or surfaces). Thus, cortical current source estimations can be submitted to advanced general linear models implemented in SPM12 for statistical analysis. If time, we will also consider advanced scripting methods that allow automatizing many of the analysis steps discussed during the workshop. Further, some introduction in connectivity analysis can be offered if the time schedule allows this. The workshop is suited for beginners but is also recommended for advanced participants. The graphical interfaces enables researchers to perform advanced EEG/ MEG analysis without any programming skills. 9:00 A.M.24:00 P.M. Cascade Ballroom 2 Pre-Conference Workshop #2 MULTILEVEL MODELING Elizabeth Page-Gould University of Toronto
24 2015 Program Schedule Wednesday 23 Multilevel modeling (MLM) is a statistical analysis used to analyze datasets where cases are not independent (e.g., repeated measures), as is commonly the format in which psychophysiological data is recorded. Moreover, MLM is a flexible analysis that can be learned once and readily adapted to most psychophysiological designs. Especially for psychophysiologists who are used to working with Within- Subjects ANOVA, MLM offers an improved method for harnessing the statistical power of within-subjects designs and can easily incorporate continuous predictors. This workshop will provide a practical introduction to MLM for psychophysiologists, including advanced topics like growth curves, non-gaussian data, cross-classified models, mediation, moderation, and the calculation of effect sizes. Workshop materials will include example data and syntax for SPSS, R, and SAS. The goal is for you to leave the workshop with the conceptual and pragmatic knowledge you need to immediately begin analyzing psychophysiological data with MLM. 9:00 A.M.25:00 P.M. Fifth Avenue Room Pre-Conference Workshop #3 CONSUMER GRADE PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGY Greg Siegle University of Pittsburgh Julian Thayer The Ohio State University Psychophysiological assessment tools have expanded greatly in the last several years. Many commercial products are available from wearable devices to smart-phone applications that claim to provide valid data to users. However, as can be expected, not all systems are created equally with respect to providing research grade data. This Pre-Conference Workshop will provide the attendees with a current assessment of the necessary requirements of such systems to provide data that can be utilized with confidence for research applications. More than focusing on specific systems, as they are proliferating at an incredible pace, the current workshop will provide attendees with information about standards of measurement for specific psychophysiological measures that should be met for any system that they might consider using in their research. These factors include things such as sampling rates, details of data acquisition and reduction algorithms, and data output that are needed to provide useful data to address research questions. Part of the session will also
25 Program Schedule Wednesday include a demonstration of some specific consumer grade tools for a variety of psychophysiological measures. 12:00 noon-5:00 P.M. Vashon 5:30 P.M.27:00 P.M.
