1 Volume 7, Issue 1 H E M E T M O D E L M A S T E R S January 2019 Est Academy of Model Aeronautics Gold Leader Club THE BARNSTORMER P r e s i d e n t s M e s s a g e We have started this year with a bang. The First Annual HMM Jet Rally for the winter was a huge success and I believe that all the participants had a great time. We had over 35 entries and well over 75 planes on the field. A big thank you to all who helped with this event. We will be trying to hold another Jet event this year for the summer and continue to schedule the 2 events each year. I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : Board Meeting 2 General Meeting 3 Open 4 Vendors/For Sale 5 Misc Info 6 HMM Events 7 S&T/Ceash Zone 8 Event Flyer 9 Safety Article 10 Acknowledgements 10 As always I am going to keep beating the overlay drum in an effort to keep the thought of a nice smooth and longer runway on everyone's mind. We can and will get it done this year provided that we keep the faith and work towards the goal. The board has been bouncing some new and good ways to provide more income towards that end. As most of you noticed the containers are no longer on the field as we really don't need them anymore. No more theft issues to deal with. The field will be sprayed the week of the 21st and will look pretty damn good when all the weeds are knocked back. We still have the lawn tractor and will be able to keep the weeds down tight around the runway. We have 2 more events with the usual suspects this year, and they are the pattern men and the IMAC boys. So be aware of the schedule and know that the field will be closed for these sanctioned contests. As always please keep our field clean and throw away your small trash in the dumpsters. NO PLANES Richard Lawrence Club President Event Schedule 11 BOARD MEETINGS 1ST MONDAY OF THE MONTH GENERAL MEETING 3RD SATURDAY OF THE MONTH NEXT GEN MEETING JAN 19, :00 AM AT AIR PARK The Barnstormer is the Official Newsletter of the Hemet Model Masters. It is published monthly for the benefit of its members. Copies are provided to interested individuals, local Hobby Stores and area RC Clubs. Portions of the Newsletter may be reproduced without the permission of the Hemet Model Masters. Acknowledgement of the author or source of the reprinted material is appropriate. 2 HEMET MODEL MASTERS BOARD MEETING Minutes for January 7, 2019 The meeting was started promptly at 7:00 pm. In attendance Richard Lawrence, Mario Muniz, Eddie James, Ralph Torres, Kevin McDonald, Dwayne Higgenbothem, Jeff Barker, Floyd Whitehorn, Steve Staudenmeir and Stewart Robinson. The meeting began with the steps that were going to be conducted during the Jet Event. The awards, thanks to Neil Smiley are not going to cost anything to the club. He was able to get all his jet buddies to chip in and sponsor the awards. The club provided custom made shirts and some gifts were donated by some of the sponsors. Dinner will be turkey, beans and salad. This will be cook by Richard at the field on 6 Weber kettles that we managed to pickup. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event and the auction will be conducted right after. Kevin McDonald made a motion to have a Lifetime Membership made up for the auction, seconded by Eddie James, voted on and passed by all members present. Dinner will be around 3:00 pm. New signs were made for the entrance to the field and installed by Richard Lawrence and Mario Muniz. Richard Lawrence also put up the flagpole at the east end of the pit area. A second flagpole was donated to the club by Lyle Delano and that pole will be placed at the west end of the pit area in a concrete hole placed by Richard Lawrence. Our wind sock will fly from that pole. However that pole will not be permanent because it could be stolen. We will find a way to have a windsock at the field at all times. A motion was made by Richard Lawrence to finish the shade structure with some of the materials that were left after the theft at the field., seconded by Floyd Whitehorn and accepted by all present. Jan 31, 2019 Gate codes will be changed. The numbers have been chosen and will be sent to all current members at the end of the month. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM Members Present 10 Minutes submitted by Mario Muniz

3 HEMET MODEL MASTERS GENERAL MEETING Minutes for "December 15, 2018" Richard Lawrence was unable to attend due to family issues in Seattle, meeting was conducted by Secretary Mario Muniz. Treasurer Stewart Robinson read the treasurers report, motion to approve made by Floyd Whitehorn and seconded by Steve Staudenmeir. Last month s minutes, motion to approve by Floyd Whitehorn and seconded by Vincent Michael. Steve Staudenmeir took the floor and discussed his invitation to the San Jacinto Charter Academy Aviation Department. He enjoyed attending and was even allowed to try out their flight simulator. These kids need us to help them grow in the aviation field and provide them with guidance in building and flying rc. Our friend Larry Mason was a guest at the meeting and expressed his interest in getting back into flying after having taken off for a year. Hope to seem him at the field. A suggestion was made by Kevin McDonald to include a Lifetime Membership to the Hemet Model Masters for the auction to be held at the jet event. He stated that he would bring up the subject at the next board meeting. We had the largest showing of members this month with 23 members in attendance. Meeting adjourned at 9:40 am Minutes submitted by Mario Muniz Total Attendance 23 members

If your airplane is behind the second fence and not in the water runoff it is serviced by Mike Thompson. His direct line is Note: Before calling be nice and explain that you are with the Hemet Model Masters and that you have crashed you re rc plane beyond the second fence and would like to retrieve it without breaking any laws. If your plane is between the first and second fence it is serviced by another agency (Securitas Security), Mike Thompson can not help you. Hopefully this will help our members to retrieve their aircraft. FAA Guidelines All aircraft that are flown using a ground control system, such as a transmitter, are required to participate. This includes fixed-wing aircraft, not just multi-rotors or drones. Any pilot flying models weighing between.55 pounds (or 250 grams) and 55 lbs is required to register. The new flight restrictions permanently prohibit the operation of unmanned and radio-controlled model aircraft within roughly 3.5 miles of both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World theme parks. The restrictions are also in place for a period of one hour before and one hour after major sporting events.

10 The results of the voting by the members for club officers. All positions remain the same for IMPORTANT NOTICE A few members have asked me to pass on to the membership some of their concerns about their aircraft and property when at the flying field. Unless you are asked to assist, DO NOT TOUCH OTHER MEMBERS PROPERTY. When we were children our parents told us to look with our eyes not our hands, this holds true for adults. We sometimes get anxious to try and help, but out of respect if you are not asked to help keep your hands to yourself. How would you feel if while admiring a members new radio you drop it or break a part off of their aircraft. You can admire someone s new aircraft or equipment without poking, prodding, pulling hatches (which may have wires attached), etc. No one should feel slighted by this request. Respect other members property and keep your hands to yourself!! Bottom line DON T TOUCH. SAFETY AT THE FLYING SITES PLEASE ADHERE TO CLUB SAFETY POLICIES, THESE WERE PUT IN PLACE BY YOU THE MEMBERS AND A FEW OF YOU CONTINUE TO IGNORE THEM. Starting of any engines is north side of yellow line, aircraft facing runway. No taxing in the pits and staying within established perimeters, exceeding 400 ft ceiling. We have full scale aircraft overhead all the time and it only takes ONE incident to lose our field. No flying over the field workers on adjacent properties EVER! The Hemet Model Masters January Birthdays Mario Muniz, Jeff Barker, Walter Bennett, Scott Boersma, Lyle Delano, Tom Fitzpatrick, Raymond Fisher, Jack Moore, Steve Staudenmeir, Howard Hibbler, Hai Nguyen, Brian Werner, Bryan Wolsky We would like to welcome our newest members to the Hemet Model Masters Kambiz Azimzadeh, Ken Young, Edwin Bujanda, Mario Carrona Rondi Schneider, Lee Smith

Lets help Don out and get the necessary information to him so we don t step over each others toes with event scheduling.
