1 Concerns of police survivors Kentucky Chapter 2 nd QTR 2015 P.O. Box 23404, Lexington, KY (502) find us on INSIDE THIS ISSUE The Votes Are In KY C.O.P.S. News National Police Week National Police Week KY C.O.P.S. News Announcements End of Watch: Gone But Not Forgotten FYI O n June 13 th a new Kentucky C.O.P.S. Executive Board was sworn into office. In taking their office, each member promised to carry on the work of the previous board in caring for the Law Enforcement Survivors of Kentucky. Most of the names of the new board will be familiar as they have already served in some capacity within the C.O.P.S. organization over the past few years. Others are new names that are just as excited to continue the C.O.P.S. legacy in the Bluegrass State. We would like to thank the previous Executive Board Members, especially Immediate Past-President Julie Schmidt. They set the bar high. We are excited to accept the challenge of continuing the high standard that has been set! We are looking forward to serving Kentucky s Survivors over the next two years! Please feel free to reach out to any of us should you ever need anything. For personal contact information please refer to the last page or contact us anytime via Twitter, Facebook or our website: copskentucky.org. The Votes Are In! MISSION STATEMENT Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. and the Kentucky Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal criteria. Furthermore, C.O.P.S. provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.

There are fundraising minimums to participate in the ride. The Road to Hope is a 250 mile bike ride that takes place May as part of National Police Week. Law Enforcement United has different routes starting from Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. In 2016, Team Kentucky will participate in the Virginia route. For more information, contact Craig Sutter at cmsutter@gmail.com or visit Thank you, Blue Knights! Kentucky C.O.P.S. would like to extend our deepest thanks to Kentucky Blue Knights VII and Kentucky Blue Knights XI. Every year these Blue Knights Chapters hold motorcycle rides to benefit KY C.O.P.S. The Blue Knights understand the mission of C.O.P.S. and do what they can to help us support the Survivors of Kentucky! 3 National Police Week PAGE 3 Honoring Law Enforcement Don Grignon Surviving Father 01 On May 21 st the annual ceremony honoring those in law enforcement who gave their lives, in Kentucky, to serve and protect was held. There are 525 names engraved on the monument in front of the School of Criminal Justice at Eastern Kentucky University. There were seven added this year. Four from many years past with the furthest back from The day was cool with a slight drizzle. Governor Beshear was the keynote speaker. The guest speaker was Rebecca Grignon Reker. Both were brief, poignant and meaningful. Rebecca's pain of her story of having Peter's Lieutenant knock on her door and take her to U of L Hospital was felt by all. She also spoke of reading Psalm 27 many times to keep her going. Bagpipers played Amazing Grace and the seven flags were given to survivors. A 21-gun salute rang out, piecing my heart with each volley. Never forgotten. Always remembered. Forever honored. The fallen. The loved. God Bless. Pictured: KY C.O.P.S. 5 KY C.O.P.S. News PAGE 5 Con-grad-ulations! Andrew Sticklen is shown at his graduation from St. Patrick's High School in Maysville, KY with his sister Mary, who received her masters degree in environmental science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Emily will be a senior at Northern Kentucky University. On this happy occasion the Sticklen family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the State of Kentucky for their tuition benefit which Mary used for undergrad studies at UK, Emily is currently using at NKU and which Andrew will use at the University of Kentucky this fall. The Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation's Gerald F Healy Scholarship has been such a blessing for Mary and Emily and now Andrew as well. The Sticklens are also very appreciative of the Kids' Chance of Kentucky Scholarship for dependents of Workers' Comp fatalities or permanently injured workers. There is tremendous time and effort from many people and many supporters who make these scholarships possible and they make such a difference in easing the burden of financing college educations. The understanding and compassion exhibited by those who administer these scholarships is remarkable and the personal interest shown to the students is much appreciated. Mary, Emily and Andrew are the children of Alexandria police officer Jim Sticklen, EOW 3/4/11, who no doubt is smiling down on those who have stepped up with such dedication to assist with his children's education. In May, Katherine Thacker graduated from Christian Academy of Louisville. She has also recently returned from a medical mission trip to Honduras. While there she assisted in providing medical and dental care to over 1,000 Hondurans living in and around La Paz. This fall Katherine plans to attend Liberty University where she will study Church & Ministry Leadership. 5
