3 lntroduction This document explains Metasys Integrator Power Measurement Ltd. (PML) applications. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5), which provides information on installing and commissioning Metasys Integrator. For information on Power Measurement Ltd. equipment, see Power Measurement Ltd. documentation (obtainable from a Power Measurement Ltd. representative). Application Details Metasys Integrator allows the following Power Measurement Ltd. equipment to become an integral part of the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks: Model 3300 Power Meters Model 3710 Power Meters Model 3720 Power Meters Model 7300 Power Meters Use the Power Measurement Ltd. COM 32 converter, or the Power Measurement Ltd. COM 128 port replicator/converter as an RS-232 to RS-485 converter to connect to a Metasys or Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator. Each of the Power Measurement Ltd. devices listed above can be accessed by the full complement of Metasys Facility Management System (FMS) features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, scheduling, trend, and totalization. The RS-232 to RS-485 converter connects to Metasys Integrator through the RS-232 port. Once connected, it is the interface between Power Measurement Ltd. equipment and non-power Measurement Ltd. devices (such as Metasys Integrator). Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one converter. The Power Measurement Ltd. COM 32 converter can connect to up to 32 devices in a daisy chain configuration. The Power Measurement Ltd. COM 128 converter has four ports, each of which can connect up to 32 Power Measurement Ltd. devices in a daisy chain configuration for a total of 128 devices per converter. Each Power Measurement Ltd. device must be fitted with the proper communications hardware. Figure 1 shows Power Measurement Ltd. and Metasys integration using the COM 32, and Figure 2 shows Power Measurement Ltd. and Metasys Companion integration using the COM 128. COM 32, or Power Measurement Ltd. COM 128 RS-232 to RS-485 converter proper Power Measurement Ltd. devices and communication hardware RS-232 cable for connecting the converter to Metasys Integrator RS-485 two wire, shielded cable (for connecting the converter to Power Measurement Ltd. devices) Metasys Integrator N2 Bus (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the Metasys or Companion Network) portable PC for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and network setup information into Metasys Integrator, and for running diagnostics cable for connecting portable PC to Metasys Integrator the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into Metasys Integrator (supplied on Metasys Integrator diskette) Metasys Integrator Metasys Integrator Power Measurement Ltd. 6 This document describes the RS-232 cable and the vendor communication tables. Power Measurement Ltd. documentation describes their equipment. The remaining components are described in the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin. (LIT ) in the Metasys Connectivity Technical Manual (FAN 629.5). Metasys Release Requirements To integrate Power Measurement Ltd. equipment into the Metasys Network, you need the following: Metasys Operator Workstation (OWS) software Release 6.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 8.0 or higher Metasys To integrate Power Measurement Ltd. equipment into the Metasys Companion Companion Network, you need the following: Release Requirements Metasys Companion Release 4.0 or higher Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 8.0 or higher Vendor Component Requirements Integration between Metasys Integrator and Power Measurement Ltd. has been tested with the equipment listed in Table 1. Changes to this equipment or integration of Power Measurement Ltd. products not discussed in this document will require additional software development and testing by Systems Products. 7 Design Considerations When integrating Power Measurement Ltd. equipment, consider the following: Make sure all Power Measurement Ltd. equipment is set up and running properly before attempting to integrate with the Metasys or Companion Network. (The Power Measurement Ltd. representative is responsible for operation of Power Measurement Ltd. equipment.) Make sure all Power Measurement Ltd. devices, including the converter, are set to the same baud rate, and that each has a unique communication address. (The Power Measurement Ltd. representative is responsible for setting the power meter baud rate.) RS-232 cable distance between Metasys Integrator and the RS-232 to RS-485 converter can be a maximum of 50 feet. Cable distance between the converter and the last power meter can be a maximum of 4000 feet. The passwords for all power meters must be set to 0. (The Power Measurement Ltd. representative is responsible for setting the power meter password.) The relays for the 3710 Power Meter must be under setpoint control (configured in the meter) for ACM networks. The invalid objects setting must be set to Yes for the 3720 Power Meter. The 3300, 3710, 3720, and 7300 Power Meters can all reside on a MODBUS network. The 3300 and 3710 can also exist on an ACM network. When configured for the ACM network, the 3300 or 3710 cannot be connected to the MODBUS RS-485 network. The 3720, 3710, and 3300 Power Meter interfaces support register sizes of 16- and 32-bits. If gigawatt hours are needed, configure the meter for 32-bit mode and use the 32-bit.vct file. Otherwise, configure the meter for 16-bit register size and use the 16-bit.vct file. 8 Cable Connections Cable Pinouts Use the following cable pinouts for the RS-232 connection between Metasys Integrator and the RS-232 to RS-485 converter. 9 Connecting the Cable Connect the female end of the RS-232 cable to either Vendor Port A or Vendor Port B on Metasys Integrator. Connect the male end of the cable to the RS-232 port on the RS-232 to RS-485 converter. 10 Metasys Integrator Setup To set up Metasys Integrator, use a portable PC connected to the Metasys Integrator Terminal Port. Metasys Integrator setup involves: downloading the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) setting up the ports assigning network addresses to the controllers Table 2 provides setup information specific to Power Measurement Ltd. applications.
