1 Features & Benefits Sensing and controlling without the need of structural cabling Minimal downtime and costs for installation Seamless integration into BACnet IP over Ethernet DIN-rail mounted Easy to install and commission Technical Overview The SonNet Wireless receiver allows quick and seamless integration of SonNet devices into building management systems. It automatically maps data from SonNet end devices into BACnet objects which are transmitted via the vendor independent BACnet IP communication protocol, using a simple web browser interface. Depending on the layout of the SonNet network it can connect up to 40 nodes. Please see the System User manual for more information. The receiver collects data from all other devices on the wireless network, including measurements from sensors, link quality, battery levels for all battery powered devices, hours run for all devices and the current status of all devices. 2 How it works These receivers are used in conjunction with the Sontay RF-IOM, RF-RR and RF-RS radio sensors and IO modules. Routers are used to route signals from battery powered nodes and other routers to the receiver module, where the signal strength of a direct path is not sufficient for reliable communications. te that RF-IOMs also have full router functionality. Data is transmitted back to the receiver at configurable time intervals, or on a configurable change in measured value. Each sensor retains these configurations if the battery becomes discharged or requires replacement. The receiver automatically selects which of the 16 transmission channels available gives the best radio network performance, taking into account both signal strength and interference levels from adjacent channels and equipment (such as Wi-Fi etc.) The sensors and routers automatically find the best path back to the receiver, which may be directly to the receiver or via parent routers or RF-IOM modules. NB The receiver can support a maximum of 16 directly connected children, a maximum of 12 of which can be battery powered end devices. Each router or RF-IOM module can support a maximum of 16 directly connected children, a maximum of 8 of which can be battery powered end devices. Consideration should be given on network planning for redundancy in case of router failure or damage. A maximum of 40 devices (excl. the receiver) can be mapped into BACnet IP. Installation 1. Remove all packaging from the network receiver and note the MAC address printed on the affixed label. 2. Mount the network receiver in the required position (this will have been determined by the site survey tool, (see the quick start guide and manual for further details), taking care not to site the receiver, and more importantly the aerial, behind any obstruction likely to impede the radio signal. 3. Fix the receiver to the DIN rail. NB If the receiver is to be mounted in a metal enclosure, it is essential that the aerial is mounted externally. A 2 or 5m coaxial extension cable assembly is available for this option. 4. Ensure the antenna is positioned in a vertical alignment. 5. Observe correct polarity if using a 24Vdc power supply. 6. Commissioning of the SonNet wireless network is accomplished using CMS (Configuration and Monitoring Software). 7. Mapping of all BACnet devices and points is accomplished via the receiver s built-in web browser interface. The default IP address is te If the USB port is connected (for commissioning with CMS), the Ethernet port is disabled. Ensure the USB port is disconnected before attempting to communicate via the Ethernet port. A full user guide is supplied with each new network receiver and is also available at Page 2 of 26

Reset Button USB Connector RJ45 Ethernet Push buttons - Reinitialize Device: Resets the Ethernet IP address to the factory default of te it does not affect the Ethernet MAC address or the device BACnet instance - Reset: Resets the wireless network at the receiver. For a short time, until nodes re-join the network, LED D100 will flash once per second. te: The Ethernet is configured to use Auto-MDI-X for 10/100 Mb/s. It should be able to connect to any 10/100 10base-T device, either through a switch or directly to the device without the need for a crossover cable. The Ethernet standard specifies that the maximum 10base-T cable distance is 100 meters. Default home screen for the Page 3 of 26
4 Changing IP settings 1. From the Home page, click on the BACnet/IP Settings link 2. Change the IP address, the IP subnet mask and the IP gateway, if required. Click the appropriate Update button. 3. Change the Device Instance if required. te that the last 3 digits of the device instance form the BACnet device address (005 in the example above). Click the appropriate Update button. 4. Change the Device Location if required. Click the appropriate Update button. 5. Change the BACnet/IP UDP port number if required. Click the appropriate Update button. 6. te changing the settings values may require the to be rebooted. Mapping SonNet Points to BACnet Objects: 1. From the Home page, click on the BACnet/IP Settings link A list of SonNet devices, including the receiver, will appear. te that only the last 8 characters of the SonNet device MAC addresses are displayed. 2. Click the Map Device button to add the BACnet points for each required SonNet device. Page 4 of 26
5 BACnet PICS This document contains the BACnet Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) and BACnet Interoperability Building Blocks (BIBBs) for the SonNet BACnet/IP Receiver as required by the American National Standards Institute/ American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ANSI/ASHRAE) Standard , BACnet protocol. BACnet interoperability building blocks are collections of one or more BACnet services. This document includes a listing of the BIBBs currently supported by this device. The SonNet BACnet/IP Receiver is a native BACnet-Application Specific Controller (B-ASC) with BACnet/IP capabilities. Product Description The SonNet devices (wireless) communicate to this Receiver, where the data is received and is modeled by various BACnet objects. The BACnet application, running on the Receiver, will automatically model the SonNet device data to BACnet objects, and will update the Present_Value of each object with data from the SonNet.
