For supply voltages and control circuits Socket RS 232:... Update interface (in the cassette) 2.3 Description The cassettes convert up to 4 DVB-SPI data streams in one QAM-modulated data stream. The cassettes are controlled via the head end station. Each cassette has four DVB-SPI inputs and one HF output. Each of the cassettes has four channel strips ("A", "B", "C", "D") that are indicated in the display of the control unit with "Bx A", "Bx B", "Bx C" and "Bx D". The integrated TP module (TP Transport Stream Processing) processes the data from the data streams. It can be used to change service information (NIT Network Information Table), select stations / channel strips and increase the data rates (stuffing). The TP module enables the generation of a new data stream from up to 4 data streams. The processed input signals are fed via the HF output to the HF output collector of the head end station. The output level of the cassettes can be set with the PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

level regulator (max. 20 db) at the output collector of the head end station. When the head end station is switched on, the two-line LC display briefly shows the software version of the control unit and then the cassette type of the slot occupied first. You can use a PC or notebook to update the operating software of the cassettes via the 9-pin SUB-D socket (RS 232) in the cassette ("BE Flash" software). You can find the current operating software of the cassettes on the website " The cassettes are intended for use in the head end stations PSU 12, PSU 8 and PGT Software versions Cassette How to query the software version of the cassette is described in "Querying software versions" on page 18. Control unit If necessary, you can activate the indication of the software version of the control unit manually: Press any two keys on the control unit of the head end station simultaneously until the display goes dark and the software version, e.g. "V 41", is displayed TP module functions When converting the transport stream signals to QAM-modulated cable signals, the data stream can be accessed via the integrated TP module. This data stream, also called transport stream, contains several stations in all their components (video, audio, data and service information), which can be changed using the TP module. Station filter Individual stations and channel strips can be switched on or off. This changes the data rate and, consequently, the output symbol rate. Stuffing The transport stream is padded using what is referred to as zero data. This increases the data rate and, consequently, the output symbol rate. Changing the output symbol rate alters the bandwidth used appropriately (halving the output symbol rate roughly halves the bandwidth at the output) PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

Changing service information The transport stream contains data in the form of tables that the receivers evaluate and require for convenient use. The TP module can change the "Network Information Table" (NIT). The "NIT" contains data that is required by the set-top box for the automatic search feature Explanation of the term "symbol rate" Modulation methods such as QPSK and QAM transmit multiple bits simultaneously. These are referred to as symbols. Error correction bits are transferred in addition to the user data stream which transmits video and audio information. The FEC number specifies the ratio of error correction bits to user bits. Processing small symbol rates A low data rate means that the output symbol rate will be very low. With some digital receivers, this may cause reception problems. This can be remedied by using the stuffing option to set the QAM modulation to a higher value. Defined symbol rates Some cable operators specify a fixed symbol rate (e.g kilosymbols per second) PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

2.4 Updating the cassette software The RS-232 interface required to update the cassette software is fitted on the board inside the cassette. Observe the ESD protective measures! Screw 3 screws S (TORX TX6) out of the cassette cover. Push the cassette cover backwards and remove it. S Use an RS-232 cable to connect the PC / laptop to the RS-232 interface of the cassette and update its operating software with the "BE-Flash" software. You can find the current operating software of the cassettes on the website " RS 232 After programming, push the cassette cover from the back into the guides of the cassette and fasten it with the 3 screws S. -8- PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

3.2 Connecting the cassette To comply with the current EMC regulations, it is necessary to connect the lines leading in and out of the head end station (e.g. cinch, HF) using cable terminals. When mounting the cassette in a head end station which is installed in a 19" cabinet, make sure that the connections leading in and out (e.g. cinch, HF) at the 19" cabinet are made using cable terminals. Insert the required number of standard cable terminals (e.g. cinch, HF) in the open ings provided (knock-outs) in the front of the head end station or the 19" cabinet. > The cable terminals used are standard and are not included in the scope of delivery. Tighten the nuts of the cable terminals until the teeth on the lock washers put under the nuts have penetrated the exterior coating and a good connection is made between the housing and cable terminal. The parameters and functions to be set are underlined. Use the key to select the following main menu items: Select cassette Output channel Output level TS/ORGNET (transport stream/network organisation) Hotel mode Name of the channel strip Station filter QAM modulation Stuffing Network information table (NIT) BE-Remote PROFESSIONAL V Control panel The key pad on the head-end station is used to scroll through the menus and menu items one at a time: scrolls forward through the menus. select parameters in the menus. set values, initiate actions. selects sub-menus. scrolls backward through the menus. saves all entries PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

5 Programming The following examples show how the PEDQ 4005 QMX cassette is programmed; the output channels can be set from S21 to S41. The other cassettes that are listed are set in the same way. 5.1 Preparation Notes: In the "LEVEL" menu item, the cassette generates an equally powerful HF carrier on the video carrier frequency of the channel. In this way, the cassette's level can also be set using an analogue TV test receiver that is set to the video carrier frequency of the channel. In order to prevent interference within the head end station and the cable system, the output level of the digital cassettes must be lowered by approx. 10 db compared to analogue cassettes at 64 QAM, and by approx. 4 db compared to analogue cassettes at 256 QAM PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

Bx MHz OUTPUT: The QAM signal is normally transmitted with a bandwidth of 8 MHz. That means that you can only use the mean channel frequency of the existing channel raster in the range of channels S21 C69 (frequency raster 8 MHz). The channel raster is 7 MHz in the range of the lower frequency bands (channels C2 S20). That is why the frequency setting is used here. If one were to use the normal channel raster in these channel ranges, this would result in interference (overlapping) with the 8 MHz QAM signal packages, thus causing transmission problems PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

For programming in these channel ranges and the frequency ranges below, we recommend to go back in steps of 8 MHz to calculate the output frequency of the QAM modulator, starting with the upper output frequency of the cassette specified in the technical data, or to go up in steps of 8 MHz starting with the lower output frequency of the cassette specified in the technical data. With PEDQ 3005 QMX, use to place the cursor under the digit of the frequency indication to be set and use to set the output frequency. 19 Adapting the output level This setting is not essential for these cassettes. Under this menu item, the "control" setting is used to set a digital carrier to the analogue video carrier frequency of the output channel. This makes it possible to measure the absolute output level of these cassettes with an analogue test receiver. 0 db LEVEL: control Use the test receiver to measure the output level of the channel strip. In the menu of the program step "LEVEL: control" use to set the output level step-by-step ("0" " 7" db). Generating a QAM signal for test purposes When set to "random" in the "LEVEL:" menu, the cassettes can also generate a QAM signal for testing, without there having to be an input signal. Use to place the cursor under "control" and then use to activate the "random" function. Press the key. > The "Setting the TS/ORGNET identification" "TS/ORGNET:" menu is activated. Setting the TS/ORGNET identification If available, the TS/ORGNET identification is taken from the supplied signal of the corresponding channel strip. With the "auto" setting, the TS/ORGNET identification in the incoming transport stream is entered and displayed. If there is no TS/ORGNET identification in the incoming transport stream or if the TS/ORGNET identification is to be changed, you can define it yourself (manually) in the "man" setting. We recommend to set a new TS/ORGNET identification as normally multiple data streams will be converted to one new data stream. man TS/ORGNET: 0001,FF PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

Use to make a selection between the automatic ("auto") and manual ("man") assignment of the TS/ORGNET identification. With the "man" setting (manual), use to position the cursor under the part of the identification number (ID) to be set and use to enter the desired ID. > A TS/ORGNET identification with the value "0000,FFFF" is invalid. Press the key. > The "Setting hotel mode HOTELMODE:" menu is activated. Setting hotel mode The hotel mode is designed for special applications and should only activated for these applications. If the hotel mode was inadvertently activated please observe the section "Deactivating the hotel mode" below. Hotel mode is required to generate a fixed assignment of the PIDs when input data changes. That means that if the PIDs of the incoming data stream change, the outgoing data stream is given a single defined PID. Even if there is no input signal, the entries in the tables remain unchanged. If the incoming data stream contains several stations, only the station that is found first is transmitted. The manual selection of the input signals via the station filter is not possible. off HOTELMODE: Use to select between activated hotel mode ("on") and deactivated hotel mode ("off"). > If hotel mode is activated, the service information is assigned to the four channel strips. The "Setting the station filter" and "Reading out the station filter" menus cannot be selected. Deactivating the hotel mode: To deactivate the hotel mode set the hotel mode to "off" with buttons and store the setting with button. After that disconnect the mains plug of the head end station from the mains and then reconnect it. Only after a "reboot" the station filters work properly. Press the key. > The "Naming channel strips NAME:" menu is displayed PEDQ 3005/4005/5005 QMX

Setting the station filter If no channel-related input signal is found, "FILTER: no Service" appears in the display. In this case, check the configuration of the system. Every input signal that is added via channel strip "A", "B", "C" or "D" increases the output symbol rate. If you add too many complex signals to the new data stream, the symbol rate rises to above 100%. This can result in interference to the transmission of the video and audio signals. All stations of channel strip "A" are read in and can be displayed with their name and station type.
