Appendix C ADS600-B Maintenance Port Tutorial Starting the UAT Console The UAT Console is a Windows PC application that is required for configuring the ADS600-B, versions and above. The UAT Console communicates with the ADS600-B via a serial (RS232) communication channel configured to 115,200 baud, 8 data, no parity, and 1 stop bit. The UAT Console is launched by either clicking the desktop icon from the Start Menu., or selecting UAT Console The UAT Console will request that the COM port that is connected to the ADS600-B be selected from a list of available COM ports. Figure C- 1: UAT Console Launch Screen Copyright NavWorx Page 103 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.

UAT Console Communication with ADS600-B If the UAT Console is not communicating with the ADS600-B, an indicator will illuminate in yellow stating UAT NOT CONNECTED. This is an indication that the ADS600-B may not be powered up or that the serial line from the PC to the ADS600-B is not connected. Figure C- 2: UAT Console UAT NOT CONNECTED Copyright NavWorx Page 104 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.

UAT Console Indicates UAT NOT CONFIGURED When the UAT Console indicates UAT NOT CONFIGURED, the UAT Console is communicating with the ADS600-B, but that the ADS600-B configuration is invalid. The ADS600-B is shipped from the factory with the UAT transmitter disabled and not configured. The UAT Console detects and reports this not configured state. To remedy this, the installer must configure the ADS600-B using the UAT Console. The ADS600-B is configured when the indicator turns green and indicates UAT CONFIGURED. The following sections describe how to configure the ADS600-B. Figure C- 3: UAT Console UAT NOT CONFIGURED Copyright NavWorx Page 105 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.

Configuring ADS600-B with UAT Console The sub-tabs under the Initialization Tab are used to configure the ADS600-B. The ADS600-B is not configured until the console indicator is illuminated in green indicating UAT CONFIGURED. At a minimum the installer must enter a setting for those fields that are highlighted in red. See Figure C- 3. Note: the UAT Console will not permit the ADS600-B transmitter to be enabled until the ADS600-B is fully configured and UAT CONFIGURED is indicated. Identification sub-tab The installer enters the Call Sign of the aircraft that has the installed ADS600-B. The UAT Console contains a database of the FAA aircraft registry. The Call Sign is used to retrieve the ICAO address of the aircraft from the registry. In the event, that the Call Sign is not found in the registry, the installer may override the ICAO address database search by selecting the Override ICAO Autofill check box and manually enter the ICAO address. Figure C- 4: UAT Console Identification sub-tab Copyright NavWorx Page 106 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.

Emitter sub-tab The Emitter sub-tab contains fields that describe the configuration of the aircraft (with the installed ADS600-B). The installer must specify the type of aircraft, the position of the GPS antenna used by the ADS600-B, and the length/width dimension of the aircraft. This information is transmitted by the ADS600-B in the ADS-B OUT message. Figure C- 5: UAT Console Emitter sub-tab Copyright NavWorx Page 107 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.

Inputs sub-tab The GPS source, pressure altitude source and type of control panel that are wired to the ADS600-B are selected from the Inputs sub-tab. Figure C- 6: UAT Console Inputs sub-tab Figure C- 7: UAT Console, Control Panel Popup Copyright NavWorx Page 108 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.

Displays sub-tab The ADS600-B may be configured with up to 3 displays. Figure C- 8: UAT Console Serial and ARINC 429 Displays Transmitter sub-tab To receive ADS-B IN (traffic) from the ADS-B ground stations the ADS600-B transmitter must be enabled. The UAT Console desensitizes the Transmitter radio buttons if the ADS600-B is not fully configured. Only when the indicator is illuminated in green and states UAT CONFIGURED will the UAT Console allow the installer to enable the transmitter. Copyright NavWorx Page 109 of 128 All rights reserved. 110 Figure C- 9: UAT Console Transmitter sub-tab When the UAT Transmitter is enabled the TX indicator located on the blue bar will illuminate in green. Note: when configured, the transmitter control panel mode controls the UAT transmitter state. When in Mode A or Mode C the UAT transmitter is enabled. When in Standby/Off mode the UAT transmitter is disabled. Only when in Mode C will the UAT transmitter transmit a flight ID (squawk code). Copyright NavWorx Page 110 of 128 All rights reserved. 112 Upgrading ADS600-B To upgrade the software on the ADS600-B select the Upgrade Tab and then click the Upgrade ADS600-B To Version x.x.x button. See Figure C- 11. Text will appear in the message window indicating that the software upgrade may take up to 4 minutes. See Figure C- 12. During this period the UAT Console prevents the installer from changing the configuration of the ADS600-B. The screen of the UAT Console will print several rows of periods. When the upgrade is complete the UAT Console will indicate PLEASE CYCLE POWER. Power must be cycled on the ADS600-B for the new software to operate. See Figure C- 13. To verify that the ADS600-B is operating with the new software load view the blue bar that is underneath the menu bar. The software version is shown near the middle of the blue bar as SW Ver x.x.x. 114 View UAT Console Reports Select the Reports Tab to view ADS600-B reports. Status Messages are output every second. These messages report the state of the GPS, the state of the ADS600-B, the ADS600-B Software Version Number and the number of ADS-B and Uplink messages received. See Figure C- 14. Traffic Messages are displayed only when traffic messages are received. See Figure C- 15. Uplink Messages are displayed only when uplink messages are received from an ADS-B ground station. When the ADS600-B successfully receives from the GPS constellation, the geometric altitude is displayed in either the Primary or Secondary Altitude panels. Likewise, when the ADS600-B is wired to an operating pressure altitude source, pressure altitude is displayed in the Primary Altitude Panel. Note: when altitude is unavailable the Feet will be displayed for altitude. Figure C- 14: UAT Console Reports Tab Copyright NavWorx Page 114 of 128 All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A.
