2 5. What is the Phase Noise with respect to carrier offset? Phase Noise < GHz (typical) at 10kHz offset 6. How does AXIe relate to PXI? The AXIe standard provides the maximum scalability to address a range of platforms including general purpose rack-and-stack, modular systems, semiconductor ATE systems, bench top, and module plug-ins. AXIe leverages existing standards from ATCA, PXI, LXI and IVI. AXIe removes the division between instruments and systems. The major difference is in board space density and power per slot. Both standards use a PCIe backplane, and therefore can be used side by side and to a computer the AXIe backplane looks the same as PXI! The power per slot in AXIe is 200W vs. 30W for PXI, and AXIe offers higher density and flexibility through the boards space per slot 900cm2 vs. 160cm2. AXIe has been earmarked as the big brother of PXI. Ideal for high performance applications such as the AWG the AWG performance for instance could not have been achieved using PXI architecture 7. What are RF/IF level and frequency settling times? The characteristics of the RF output are o 50 MHz to 4.5 GHz (typical) o Rise/fall time (20 % to 80 %) 55 ps o Accuracy offset= 0V 0.5 db o Resolution =0.5 db o Range -10 dbm to + 10 dbm Frequency settling is within one period of the output frequency (e.g. 500 ps for 2 GHz output frequency) 8. Does Agilent have a solution to upconvert the M8190A IF output? Yes, E8257D Option H30. But Agilent provides other solutions for up conversion as well.

3 9. How often is calibration needed? Must it be sent into the factory for calibration? We recommend one year calibration cycle 10. Can you speak a bit more about the AXIe standard and how the backplane bandwidth is used and how it benefits the user? The AXIe is an open standard, that leverages from existing standards from ATCA, PXI, LXI and IVI, with high performance per rack inch and added features including timing, triggering, and module-to-module data movement features that are important to the implementation of high-performance test and measurement systems. AXIe is an ideal complement to the LXI and PXI standards. It includes PCIe and LAN interfaces, so that AXIe instruments can act like virtual PXI or LXI instruments. The AXIe backplane in the Agilent M9502A and M9505A chassis include all of the following AXIe backplane lines: Timing and triggering signals including: 100 MHz clock, 100 MHz PCIe clock (FCLK), point-to-point star trigger from ESM (SYNC), bidirectional point-to-point star trigger (STRIG), and 12 signal parallel trigger bus (TRIG) Distributed PCIe Gen 2 data fabric from ESM (x4 to eachslot) plus a secondary PCIe data fabric Distributed gigabit Ethernet LAN to each slot 62-pair local bus for adjacent module signaling or data transfer (AXIe only requires 18 pairs) 42V DC power rail Intelligent Platform Management Bus (IPMB) for chassis o control, including module power-up 11. I assume the output -1V to +3V is into 50 ohms? Yes, it s into 50 Ω. Amplitude 600 mv 1.0 Vpp; output voltage window: -1.0 V +3.0 V 12. How will the customer calibrate/verify the performance accuracy? The customer can order calibration reports either base on ISO or based on the Z540.3 standard.

4 13. For real time operation - How fast can you change the waveforms generated and how fast can we load them? We hadn t tested download times yet. But with the PCIe interface we don t expect any limitations here Fast Frequency Switching Switching Time with Option -FSW 12 bit mode, 64 / sample rate (e.g. 5.3 ns at sample rate 12 GSa/s) 14 bit mode 48 / sample rate (e.g. 8 ns at sample rate 8 GSa/s) Switching Time without Option -FSW 12 bit mode > 100µs; 110 µs (typ) 14 bit mode > 100µs; 110 µs (typ) 14. In the Eye simulation for broadband signals in MATLAB does this generate all the pattern combinations? The MATLAB script contains only examples. But you can download them and adopt them to your needs. In the script you can choose between random, clock and user defined data. 15. Will these products be available in small OEM packages with computer control? I am thinking about Radar and EW System application. The form factor of the product supports integration in Systems. We are interested in different business models, so please contact your local sales representative for follow up. 16. Do you support use of user defined markers to triggering external devices? The instrument has two markers per channel. There will be a Sample marker with 1 sample clock timing resolution. The Sync Marker is user defined in multiples of N sample clock cycles ( N= 64 in 12 bit mode, N=48 in 14 bit mode)

5 17. Do you have any corresponding digitzers on AXIe? Agilent offers a wide range of modular digitizers in PXI including PXI-1, PXI-H and PXIe, AXIe, VXI, PCI, PCIe, cpci, VME and USB formats. Agilent digitizers are analog-to-digital converter versatile cards based on a modular architecture and addressing two main areas of activities: Test and measurements area, for customers requiring digitizers in test systems, often in PXI, ACIe or USB formats Embedded digitizers, Agiletn s portfolio of digitizere and time to digital converters in PCI, PCI Express, CompactPCI and VME formats are designed for easy integration as acquisition components, embeeded into complex systems. 18. What is the response variability to an external trigger from one output waveform to the next? Is it +/- one sample period? The trigger input is latched with the rising edge of the SNC clock (which is available in the front panel). If the trigger input is not synchronized with the SYNC clock output, the variability is 48 samples in 14-bit mode and 84 samples in 12-bit mode. 19. Could you elaborate a bit on the use of AWG in RF power amplifier design? This is a very broad topic, please contact your local sales representative for setting up a visit with us to follow up on this topic. 20. Is there any way to expand memory capacity? The instrument comes with 128 MSample Memory and can expanded to 2 GSa memory. We investigate additional capabilities. For additional discussions please follow up with your local sales representative. 21. Is the time domain output amplifier single ended or differential? The time domain output is single-ended or differential, DC coupled. 22. Is there an HDMI compliance test that is defined for these devices? How many boxes does it take? HDMI compliance tests contain several tests. Based on the bandwidth you can address tests up to revision 1.4.

6 23. Are all outputs available in a single instrument? The instrument contains the direct output optimized for IQ modulation. The AC and DC amplifier (optimized for IF / RF and time domain applications) are available with the option AMP. 24. What about the price of the 12GS/s version? Different options are available for the different values. The starting price for the 12 GSa/s configurations is $76,000 containing $55,000 for 1 channel, $ 13,000 for 12 GSa/s and ~$8000 for the chassis. 25. Does the price that was noted include the AXIe chassis? Yes the referenced prices contain a 2 slot chassis. 26. Can multiple units be connected for >2 channel synchronous generation? Several units can be synchronized via trigger and marker. The 2 channels in one instrument run synchronized. In addition 2 instruments can be synchronized. 27. MATLAB can be purchased with certain instruments such as scopes and analyzers. Will MATLAB be offered with this AWG? Matlab is available from Agilent: The product number is N6171A. 28. Is there a reconstruction filter on the outputs? There will be filters available optimized for 8 GSa/s matched. 29. Is there an API for programming waveforms and for reading the sample memory with a custom application? We offer SCPI and IVI COM as programming interfaces to download waveforms. An API for reading back waveforms is not available

7 30. What degree of synchronization can you achieve? In samples or time? The two channels of a module have less than ± 20 ps skew. The delay of each channel is adjustable in 50 fs steps in a range of 0 to 150 ps. 31. What operating system runs on the embedded PC? Windows 7 is running on the embedded PC. 32. Is the output bandwidth programmable? The sample rate is programmable from 125 MSa/s to 8 / 12 GSa/s. But the bandwidth is not. 33. I noticed the "Agilent Wideband Waveform Creator" in the slides. Do you provide this on the website or does it have to be purchased separately? What s the product/part no. for this? The wideband waveform creator is a separate product which can be purchased. The product number is N7652B 34. Can waveforms be triggered and if so, what is the trigger jitter? Yes, waveforms can be triggered. 35. What types of output connectors are used? SMA connector 36. Is there a MATLAB API available for the PXI M9330A ARB module, can you pls provide this? MATLAB is interfaced through the IVI-COM driver. However, for the N603x we used to have a MATLAB API (MEX), and in order to be backward compatible with any existing MATLAB code for the N603x, we are including the MEX interface on the M933x as well.

8 37. Can I combine 12 bit and 14 bit in one instrument? Yes, you just have to order both options. All options are orderable March 1 st 38. What types of PC s are supported with the YXIe frame? A better name for an advanced arbitrary waveform generator is a signal scenario generator or SSG. This descition signifies a level of versatility that enables you to set up complex real-world signals. 40. Is there any export control with the product? Yes, it is not possible to export the fast switching option in every country. But this limitation is to the fast switching option only. 41. What processor and technologiy is used for the AGILENT DAC The AWG uses a disruptive technology achieved through a BiCMOS siciium geranium process that is 3 years ahead of the market. 42.
