They are equipped with an internal 10 kω pull-up resistor. 1.2 IN1 (Power Saving Mode): With X1 Pin 4 (IN1) and according configuration (see: "System Manual - ID ISCM01 Series, Standard Readers" the power saving mode of the reader can be activated. To activate the power saving mode input IN1 must be connected to GND (X1 Pin 9) of the reader. The connection of extraneous voltage might damage the reader. 1.3 Connection of an external antenna: The external antenna can be connected to X2. FEIG ELECTRONIC delivers 3 standard antennas : 35 x 33 mm, 55 x 53 mm and 105 x 104 mm Customer specific antennas are possible. FEIG ELECTRONIC GmbH. Page 3 of 7

4 Identification System OBID i-scan 2. Installation: The Reader ID ISCM01 is designed to be installed into a casing. The installation place should be selected carefully - if usage of reader is desired, it should be possible to hold tranponder area parallel to antenna of reader. The contactless data transmission of the OBID i-scan system is based on magnetic fields, which have to spread out in the surrounding of the antenna and in the distance between antenna and OBID i-scan -transponder. Magnetic fields can penetrate nearly each material without loss. Conducting materials as metal, water or other conducting liquids or metalliferous surfaces (special glasses) influence the magnetic field. In case of planning the system this factors must be considered. Before installing the reader in metal casings please discuss the procedure with the manufacturer. 3. Antenna fine tuning Antenna is made of three parts. The PCB-antenna, a matching circuit on the PCB-antenna and a matching circuit on the reader. Some possible influences of the environment can cause, after installation of the antenna, a slight detuning. For such cases there is a variable capacitor [Cx] in the matching circuit on the reader- PCB. A detuned antenna can show two different effects. The first effect is a smaller reading distance. The second effect can be a reading distance nearly like a tuned antenna, but if you hold the Label closer to the antenna there is an area with no communication between reader and label. A simple way to make a finetuning is to measure the antenna voltage while you turn the variable capacitor Cx. The antenna is tuned if the antenna voltage is maximized. There are two easy ways to measure the antenna voltage : On the one hand you can measure the antenna voltage with a DC-Voltmeter at the antenna test point on the ISCM01-PCB. On the other hand you can use the funktion "Adjust Antenna" of the point "Test and Measurement" in the OBID i-scan -Demosoftware After determination of the maximum antenna voltage you have to check the range between maximum reading distance and antenna, concerning the communication between reader and label. Caution: The capacitor Cx is only for finetuning, a compensation of a high detuning is not possible. If you have to turn the capacitor to minimum or maximum position, to get communication between reader and label (see picture below) an optimum tuning can not guaranteed. 7 Installation Manual ID ISCM01-A Annex B: Safety- and warning instructions - read in any case BEFORE installation! The device may only be used according to the intentions of the manufacturer. This manual must be available for each user at any time. Unauthorized modifications and the usage of additional parts and devices which are not distributed or recommended by the manufacturer can cause fire, electric shocks and injuries. These cases release the manufacturer from his responsibility. The manufacturer s guarantee conditions are valid in the version supplied with the unit at the date of purchase. The manufacturer is not liable for system failures caused by wrong, improper manual or automatical adjustment of parameters for a device nor for misuse of a device. Repairs can only be carried out by the manufacturer. Installation-, operation- and maintenance procedures should only be carried out by qualified personnel. Before opening the device, the power supply must always be interrupted. Make sure that the device is without voltage by measuring. CAUTION! The fading of an operation control (LED) is no indicator for an interrupted power supply or the device being without voltage! Installation, operation and maintenance of the device have to be executed corresponding to the national legal requirements and to all other local regulations. The user is responsible for an installation and connection of the unit according to local and national regulations of his country. Dimensions of wires and cables, safety regulations, earthing, separation, insulation control and overcurrent protection have to be considered in particular. Mixed use of small and low voltage at the output of the relay is not allowed. In case of forcible removal of the reader, the control line for the door/gate control ( if the relay is being used) can be short-circuited. Thus, an unauthorized access to a door or gate might be possible.
