81 SYSTEM/DISPLAY CONFIGURATION Digital Filter Digital Filter Overview Filter Basics Filter Type Moving Filter The digital filter converts the analog input signal into digital forat before passing it to the internal circuits for processing. The filter affects the aount of noise included in the easureent result. The digital filter averages a specific nuber of input signal saples to generate one reading. The filter type defines the averaging ethod. The following diagras show the differences between each filter type, using 4 saples per reading as an exaple. The oving filter takes in one new saple and discards the oldest saple per reading. This is the default behavior when the digital filter is not specified, and is recoended for ost applications. 3rd reading Saple 3-6 2nd reading Saple 2-5 1st reading Saple 1-4 Saple # Repeating Filter The repeating filter renews all the saples per reading. 1st reading Saple 1-4 2nd reading Saple 5-8 3rd reading Saple 9-12 Saple #

82 GDM-8351 User Manual Filter Count Filter count defines the nuber of saples to be averaged per reading. More saples offer low noise but a longer delay between easureents. Less saples offer high noise but a shorter delay between easureents. Range: 2 ~ 320 Filter Window The filter window defines the threshold for when the digital filter data is updated again. When the AD data falls in the range between TH and TL, the filter keeps processing. When the AD data falls out of the range between TH and TL, the filter will restart. When easuring unstable signals, appropriately setting the filter window can iprove the easureent speed. AD data Restart Filter Restart TH Filter TH TL TL Filter TH TL Tie TH: Threshold High, TL: Threshold Low Filter Window Forula Previous data*(1-window)< threshold< previous data*(1+window). 99 COMMAND OVERVIEW COMMAND OVERVIEW The Coand overview chapter lists all prograing coands in functional order as well as alphabetical order. The coand syntax section shows you the basic syntax rules you have to apply when using coands. Coand Syntax Copatible Standard IEEE488.2 SCPI, 1994 Partial copatibility Partial copatibility Coand Structure SCPI (Standard Coands for Prograable Instruents) coands follow a tree-like structure, organized into nodes. Each level of the coand tree is a node. Each keyword in a SCPI coand represents each node in the coand tree. Each keyword (node) of a SCPI coand is separated by a colon (:). For exaple, the diagra below shows an SCPI sub-structure and a coand exaple. CONFigure CONFigure:VOLTage:DC :VOLTage :DC :AC :DCAC 99

100 GDM-8351 User Manual Coand Types There are a nuber of different instruent coands and queries. A coand sends instructions or data to the unit and a query receives data or status inforation fro the unit. Coand types Siple Exaple Query Exaple A single coand with/without a paraeter CONFigure:VOLTage:DC A query is a siple or copound coand followed by a question ark (?). A paraeter (data) is returned. CONFigure:RANGe? Coand Fors Coands and queries have two different fors, long and short. The coand syntax is written with the short for of the coand in capitals and the reainder (long for) in lower case. The coands can be written either in capitals or lower-case, just so long as the short or long fors are coplete. An incoplete coand will not be recognized. Below are exaples of correctly written coands. Long for CONFigure:DIODe CONFIGURE:DIODE Configure:diode 100

138 GDM-8351 User Manual FAQ The DMM perforance doesn t atch the specifications. Make sure the device is powered On for at least 30 inutes, within 18~28 C. This is necessary to stabilize the unit to atch the specifications. The easured voltage does not atch the expected value. There are a nuber of reasons why the easured value ay not atch the expected values. 1. Ensure that all connections are connected securely and have a good contact at all ties. Poor contacts could result in erroneous easureents. 2. Ensure that the appropriate input resistance has been set in the Syste enu. For 100v and 1V ranges, the input resistance can be set to either 10MΩ or 10GΩ. 3. When easuring AC voltage or current, the RMS of the voltage peak is easured, not the voltage peak. See page 35 for details. 4. The easureent rate settings can have an effect on the accuracy of the easureent. Slow easureents are ore accurate, while the fast rate is not as accurate. 5. Ensure that an appropriate range setting is used. If a too-large range is used, the resolution or the easureent ay be affected. For ore inforation, contact your local dealer or GWInstek at / arketing@goodwill.co.tw. 138
