3 HFi Imaging Technology Unique to the VSC range, HFi Imaging is an optical system that minimizes spatial distortion and chromatic aberration, offering excellent image clarity throughout the magnification range. Automated Examinations Automated examintion procedures, of up to 435 illumination and filter settings, greatly increase the speed and efficiency of examinations. Results are displayed as selectable thumbnails and stored with VSC examination settings. Intelligent Software The VSC system aids the examiner by automatically ensuring that illumination and camera filter combinations are compatible during fluorescence examinations, maximising the visibility of evidence and improving results.

4 Passports & Identification Cards The VSC6000/HS can examine and verify all forms of national passport and ID cards. Visual examinations of a document under high magnification can quickly reveal physical evidence of tampering while examinations under various wavebands of illumination can expose alterations. The VSC6000/HS system software can be configured to automatically read biometric e-passport data and to decode barcodes, information that has been hidden within images (IPI, LS etc.) and data printed within a documents Machine Readable Zone (MRZ). Banknotes and Cheques The VSC6000/HS provides the technology to verify the validity of banknotes in a matter of seconds. Modern banknotes contain some of the most advanced document security features as well as conventional measures such as watermarks and embossing. The VSC6000/HS is capable of revealing all levels of security features including covert features such as anti-stokes inks, latent images, UV security threads and taggants. By installing the optional reference database of banknotes, it is possible to quickly compare banknotes against high resolution images of the original currency. Key Features Decode Embedded Data Image Enhancement Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) Casework Management The VSC software detects & reads 1D and 2D barcodes and ICAO encoded MR Z data. Optional software decoders display embedded IPI (Invisible Personal Information) & ICI (Invisible Constant Images) on passports and identity cards using Scrambled Indicia Technology. A suite of software tools for the enhancement of images includes, noise reduction, FFT, and local equalisation for the removal of unwanted artifacts, as well as contrast stretching, image rotation, and image sharpening for the improvement of image contrast and clarity. The spectral differences between different inks can be optimised using this advanced technique for imaging a document in incremental steps across a broad spectral range. Once recorded, the images are displayed as a 3D stack for quick and easy analysis by the examiner. The VSC software includes a casework management system to record all details of a documents examination. This allows the examiner to store and recall images with corresponding instrument settings, and to produce comprehensive audit trails of each examination.

5 Official Letters and Breeder Documents The VSC6000/HS provides users with an array of examination techniques for detecting alterations to breeder documents such as birth or marriage certificates. Infrared examination, hyperspectral imaging and the systems integral spectrometer may all be used to detect the use of multiple inks on a document, and in many cases, establish the order in which different inks were added to a page. Stamps and embossing of documents can be examined using independently selectable side lights. Works of Art and Historic Artefacts Non-destructive examinations using the VSC6000/HS are particularly well suited to the analysis of paintings, books, paper, postage stamps, textiles and other historic or significant artifacts. Using a combination of multi-spectral illumination and high magnification it is possible to establish the authenticity of an item, detect changes that have been made and to see beneath the surface of an artifact revealing its history. VSC systems have long been used by museums and by conservators for analysis of documents, most notably for the restoration of one of the oldest literary works written in the English language, the Beowulf manuscript. Up to x280 Magnification Multi-spectral Illumination Microspectrometer Pseudo-Colour Mapping With an optical zoom range of x0.5 to x170 plus a further x2 digital, the VSC6000/HS provides magnification of up to x280 when viewed at 28,536 dpi. This can be increased to a maximum of x10200 using an optional microscope (see back page). A full range of light sources from UV, through the visible spectrum, to IR can reveal details that are invisible under white light, increase image contrast and excite document security features designed to respond at set wavebands. A high resolution, real-time grating spectrometer plots absorption, reflectance, transmittance & fluorescence spectra to identify differences in inks and paper formulation as well as examining the effects of ageing & bleaching. Minute variations in the response of inks to IR illumination can be greatly enhanced by applying a false-colour overlay making barely visible differences stand out more clearly to the examiner.
