5 DIGITAL IMAGING SCANNING: Scanning for print: Scan at 300 dpi (dots per inch or resolution) if keeping the image the same size. If the finished print size is intended to be larger than original scan then scan at highest dpi setting on the scanner and do the image corrections (see image corrections below) in image editing software like Photoshop, then resize and reduce resolution (300 dpi for print and 723 dpi for the internet) at the same time. o Example: Original image is 4X6 inches. You want to make 8X10. Scan the original at 2400 dpi, then in Photoshop under menu item image, image size, make image 10 inches on height or width (depending on photo) then change resolution at the same time. Meaning don t change size then click ok then go back and change resolution. Do it at the same time. Save work after scanning and name it differently then the resized one so you will not have to rescan it and still have the original. IMAGE CORRECTION: For every photo scanned or from a digital camera, go through these processes step by step using adjustment layers. 1. Brightness/Contrast 2. Levels 3. Curves 4. Vibrance 5. Hue/Saturation 6. Color Balance After Adjustments save your document. WEB: Make sure your picture is size correctly (go to image, image size under pixel dimensions) Save for web in file menu, file, save for web. (this can be an alternate to image, image size and you can change your pixel dimension in the document window) Saved picture usually needs to be no larger in file size then 100*150kb (kilobytes)
