2 Kick Start? What the heck is a Kick Start? This is not a full class, but a way of getting you started with Elements 9. I will show you the hot new capabilities i that make this such a good release. 2

3 Introduction I have recommended Adobe Photoshop Elements as the base level photo processing program for some time, because it supports Layers. However, it had some shortcomings that we wanted resolved. Now all but one have been resolved and that is 16 bit images. 3

4 Release 9 Release 9 is one of the best upgrades to Photoshop Elements in some time. This is because some important new features have been added to make Elements 9 useful to photographers: Layer Masks Content Aware Fill Improved Pan s Photomerge Exposure (HDR like) 4

5 Is this You? I use Picasa or what ever free software I find. I have a version of Elements from 1956 and it works just fine. Then you are not serious about your photography. Serious photographers want the best tools to work on their pictures to get the best results. 5

9 Getting Started Open the box and save all the papers. p Select you CD type 9MAC or PC) and load it. I load my SW onto a separate hard drive. Create your Adobe ID. Start the tutorials to get an overview of the new changes. Open Elements 9 and look around the workspace to become familiar with it. 9

10 Check your defaults File Associations Every time you load an image processing program you will want to verify all your image open up where you want then. Control Panel> Default Programs. Verify: JPG, JPEG, PSD, CR2/NEF, TIF, TIFF files open with the program you want them to when you double click on them. 10

11 Check for Updates Every time you load new software, make sure you check for any updates that came out since they cut the CD in your box. 11
