2 THE NEW CORONA Celestial Lighting s new Corona is a low voltage linear lighting system that provides the most versatile solution for achieving high-performance illumination in the widest range of applications. The Corona lightstrip is fully flexible, bending to concave, convex or lateral curves of virtually any radius. Architectural spaces with curvilinear shapes or undulating surfaces can now be dramatically illuminated with ease. The fixture is designed to allow the maximum amount of light to escape from the lampholder, producing an even wash of light without hot spots or socket shadows. Corona comes with Xenon lamps, which have a truer color rendering than incandescent bulbs and generate less heat than halogen sources. Xenon lamps also have a longer rated life than incandescent or halogen, resulting in lower maintenance and replacement costs. The lightstrip accepts both festoon and rigid loop styles, providing a wider selection of lamp specifications. Corona can be customized with optional reflectors that create a more precise beam of light for specific applications. Different lamp spacings can also be selected to control light output and energy consumption. The low and narrow profile of Corona lends itself also to applications where space is limited, or where the fixture may be visible yet must be unobtrusive. The system is designed to handle 25 amps per low voltage circuit, the maximum allowed by the National Electrical Code. This enables longer runs lengths, which mean fewer feed points and connections, and quicker and easier installation. The lightstrip can be cut to length in the field. This allows orders to be placed in bulk lengths, without having to take individual measurements on site beforehand. During installation, it eliminates the difficulties of trying to make standard-length fixtures fit into varying field dimensions. Corona is a completely integrated system that includes not only the lightstrip and lamps, but also transformers, connection and termination hardware, and mounting screws. With all essential materials available at once, ordering and installing the system is convenient and hassle-free. The versatility of the Corona system makes it an ideal lighting solution for a variety of applications. 3 DUAL LAMP DESIGN The Corona features a unique lampholder that accepts both the festoon and rigid loop lamps on the same lightstrip. The wider variety of available lamps allows the specifier to achieve precise lighting design goals by selecting the appropriate combination of wattage, voltage, lumen output and lamp life, as well as cost. Generally, festoon lamps are more economical, while rigid loop lamps tend to have a longer life. When initial cost performance is an important factor, select a festoon lamp. Where lower maintenance costs are more important, or in applications where the fixture is less accessible, select a rigid loop lamp. All Corona lamps are Xenon and frosted. Xenon provides a truer color rendering than standard incandescent lamps and the frosted coating produces a soft diffusion of light without any filament lines. The standard lamp wattage is 5 watts. It provides an effective and efficient light for most applications, including cove, display, under counter and undercabinet lighting. For the maximum intensity of light, or to illuminate larger spaces such as domes and high ceilings, select a 1-watt lamp. To create a soft glow in areas with low ambient light, or to illuminate small spaces such as bookshelves and niches, select a 3-watt lamp. 4 STANDARD LIGHTSTRIP DESIGN THE STANDARD LIGHTSTRIP The standard lightstrip alone provides effective illumination for most applications. It can be customized in three ways: Fixture Color The lightstrip is available in Ivory or Black. Select Ivory for indirect applications such as cove lighting. For applications where the fixture may be more visible, select based on which would be less obtrusive to the surrounding color palette. IVORY BLACK Lamp Type Corona can be used with either festoon or rigid loop lamps. Generally, festoon lamps are more economical and rigid loop lamps tend to have longer lamp life. For situations where initial cost performance is an important factor, select the festoon lamp. For applications where lower maintenance is more important, select the rigid loop lamp. Refer to page 3 for details on how to select the appropriate lamp. FESTOON RIGID LOOP Lamp Spacing Corona is offered in 3 standard lamp spacings. OPTIONS OPTIONS FOR LIGHTSTRIP Select one of the following options to further customize the Corona lightstrip for specific applications.

The reflector attaches to the lampholder and can be adjusted and locked to three positions. For cove lighting, it can be positioned to throw light farther toward the center of the room.

Parabolic Reflector Select the Parabolic Reflector for applications where the light output is to be maximized in one direction. The reflector attaches to the lampholder and can be adjusted and locked to three positions. For cove lighting, it can be positioned to throw light farther toward the center of the room. For showcase lighting, it can create a narrower beam of light to spotlight an object. The specular finish provides maximum reflectance. Adjustable to three positions COR-PR Asymmetric Reflector Select the Asymmetric Reflector for applications where the light is to be directed to one side of the lightstrip. It is ideal inside showcases for directing light toward the objects illuminated while eliminating glare to the viewer. The reflector slides into the lampholder and snaps into place. The specular finish provides maximum reflectance. 1.2 COR-AR Lens Cover Select the Lens Cover for applications where direct contact with lamps must be avoided, such as shelf lighting and undercabinet or undercounter lighting. The lens easily snaps into the lampholder housing. Air gaps on the ends and sides help to dissipate heat. For use with 3W and 5W lamps only. 1.3 COR-LC 1. 5

6 LIGHTING DESIGN COVE LIGHTING Not all cove lighting is the same. By adjusting the placement of the fixture or by adding special reflectors, the effect of the cove lighting can be dramatically altered to achieve different design goals. On one hand, it can be used to provide more ambient light in the room or illuminate design elements on the ceiling. On the other hand, it can be used to create a band of light on the perimeter of the room or highlight design elements on the wall. The following are three ways to project more light into the room and onto the ceiling. This will also create a softer gradation of light. CEILING APERTURE WALL Mount fixture away from aperture of cove and closer to wall. Maintain minimum distance from wall to avoid hot spots and socket shadows. FACIA SPACER Mount fixture at higher position inside cove or design facia of cove to be lower. Top of fixture should not be higher than facia. Use Parabolic Reflector and adjust position to throw light toward center of room. The following are three ways to concentrate light inside the cove and onto the wall. This will also create a sharp contrast of light. CEILING APERTURE WALL FACIA Mount fixture closer to aperture of cove and away from wall. Mount fixture at lowest position inside cove or design facia of cove to be higher. Use Asymmetric Reflector to wash more light onto wall. SHADOW-FREE LIGHT Fixture placement is critical to achieving an even light, particularly for cove lighting and other indirect applications. Hot spots and socket shadows can be avoided by mounting the lightstrip at the proper distance from the illuminated surface. LIGHTING DESIGN WALL WASH Corona is also an effective light source for wall washing.

Coverage is best when the lightstrip is mounted 3 to 4 inches away from the wall.

7 LIGHTING DESIGN WALL WASH Corona is also an effective light source for wall washing. The flexibility of the lightstrip allows it to be installed along curved spaces as well. Coverage is best when the lightstrip is mounted 3 to 4 inches away from the wall. Add the Parabolic Reflector to further extend the light downward. UNDER-COUNTER LIGHTING Corona can be used to dramatically highlight design elements or signage underneath counters in lobbies, stores, hotels, restaurants and bars. Standard Lightstrip With Parabolic Reflector 3-4 Use 3 or 5W lamps only, with the Lens Cover to prevent direct contact. Mount the lightstrip 3 to 4 inches away from the counter base. Lens Detail UNDERCABINET LIGHTING The small profile of Corona makes it ideal for undercabinet lighting. 1 Use 3 or 5W lamps only, with the Lens Cover to prevent direct contact. Mount the lightstrip 1" away from the lip of the cabinet. The lip must be 1" deep in order to conceal the fixture from view. 1 Lens Detail SHOWCASE AND SHELF LIGHTING The versatility of the Corona system makes it adaptable to many showcase, shelf and display lighting applications. Use the Parabolic Reflector to create a spotlight effect. Use the Asymmetric Reflector to direct light inside the showcase and away from the viewer. 11 LAYOUT & INSTALLATION Follow these basic guidelines when designing the layout or preparing the installation of the Corona system. For further assistance, contact Celestial Lighting. Maximum Run Lengths The Corona lightstrip uses a 1 gauge conductor, rated for a maximum load of 25 amps. Therefore, all runs must be laid out so that no single run exceeds 25 amps. Using 24 volts, this converts to a maximum of 6 watts per run. At 12 volts, the maximum is 3 watts per run. How this maximum translates into linear feet or number of lamps depends on three factors: lamp voltage, lamp wattage and lamp spacing. Refer to the chart to determine the maximum run length based on the lamp and spacing desired. Multiple sections of lightstrip may be daisy-chained together, so long as the total length of lightstrip sections does not exceed the maximum run. (Refer to transformer specifications on page 1.) The largest 24V transformer accommodates two 25 amp runs. The largest 12V transformer accommodates three. To select the appropriate transformer(s), simply calculate how many 25 amp circuits are required to power the entire application. For smaller applications that do not require a total of 25 amps, contact factory for lower capacity transformers. Transformer Location All transformers must be located in accessible areas with adequate ventilation and must be mounted to a secure surface. Wiring Use at least 1 gauge wire from the transformer to the lightstrip. If the transformer is to be located in a remote location, use a wire gauge that is sufficiently large enough to avoid the effects of voltage drop. Use the Corona Terminal Block to connect the feed wire from the transformer to the lightstrip. Where wiring requires conduit, use the Corona Junction Box.
