1 Stained Glass Decorative Art with Victoria Littlehales SUNDAY 1 ST OCTOBER am-4.00pm 45 (plus materials) Victoria Littlehales Victoria has an Art School background with a degree in Metalwork and Jewellery. She taught Art at Secondary and A level but in recent years has taught within Adult Education in various community settings. She has a passion for colour and stained glass and makes traditional lead work commissions for doors and windows together with pieces that form a series of contemporary, stylized motifs, such as hearts, stars, birds, flowers, often created in a patchwork of colours and textures, and often incorporating fused glass, vintage glass and beads, wire, ribbon and found objects. The workshop In this one day workshop we will be working in foiling techniques and making handcrafted, decorative items for the home and garden. In this very popular workshop Victoria will explain how to create your own design, cut glass, grind and finish the edges, apply the foil, solder and finish your pieces enabling you to create your own stunning pieces of art! 2 Windswept Hillside in loose Watercolour with Ian Ridley FRIDAY 6 th OCTOBER pm-4.00pm 20 Ian Ridley Ian is a self-taught professional artist living and working in Feckenham Worcestershire. He enjoys landscapes, especially in autumn and winter when the trees have lost their leaves. His paintings have won awards in international competitions and also in The Artist magazine. He is an elected member of the prestigious Birmingham Watercolour Society. This workshop offers a variety of approaches and techniques from simplistic, modern "designer" to a more atmospheric presentation which will enable you to give depth and interest to your watercolours. 3 Wet-on-Wet Watercolours with Andrew Geeson SATURDAY 7 th OCTOBER am-4.00pm 40 Andrew Geeson Andrew has been a professional artist for 22 years, working for galleries and publishers. He has worked alongside Enid Blyton's daughter on the re-working of her Mother's classic Noddy series of books and a host of other famous literary characters. Andrew's wet on wet watercolour style is calming and atmospheric, aiming to capture the feeling of the subject matter in a simple following form. The workshop will allow you to get to grips with this amazing, loose style where less is more in your painting. If you feel you want to loosen up in your painting style, this is the Workshop for you. Wet on wet is simply the process of applying pigment to wet paper. The results vary from soft undefined shapes to slightly blurred marks, depending on how wet the paper is. The wet in wet technique can be applied over existing washes provided the area is thoroughly dry. The soft marks made by painting wet in wet are great for subtle background regions of your painting. 4 Drawing Workshop Still Life with Fiona Payne SUNDAY 8 TH OCTOBER pm pm 20 Fiona Payne Fiona is a local artist and tutor. Her workshops have been delivered to schools, College students as well as many adults at seminars, classes and demonstrations. Ideal for all artists from beginners to the more experienced. Learn to draw from still life! Experiment with a variety of unusual pieces of equipment and some new and exciting techniques. Drawing is the foundation of all art forms and nobody draws enough!!!!! The still life will be provided!! Charcoal Black felt pens or fine writers Sketching paper A3 size (at least) Soft coloured pastels Water soluble crayons ( if you have them) Brown parcel paper Newspaper Fiona will provide A1 300grsm cartridge paper which can be purchased at 1 per sheet on the day, plus all the other bits and pieces that are required. 5 Fused Glass Jewellery with Clare Wainwright FRIDAY 13 th OCTOBER pm-4.30pm 35 Clare Wainwright Clare has been working with glass for about 17 years, firstly learning the art of Tiffany stained glass. She makes sun-catchers, mirrors, lampshades, Christmas decorations etc and loves to experiment with new techniques such as acid etching and adding images into glass. She has also undertaken training in fused glass and now makes a range of dichroic glass jewellery. More recently she has taken up glass appliqué making stand-alone pieces or incorporating them into a stained glass panel. She currently teaches stained glass and glass appliqué at the Mac in Birmingham and sells her work at local arts fairs and markets. The workshop This workshop is suitable for total beginners as Clare will begin with an introduction to glass fusing in a microwave including glass cutting skills and technical information. Traditional glass fusing uses an electric kiln and takes several hours but in this workshop we will be using a microwave and a 'hot pot' kiln which fuses small pieces in under 10 minutes! During the afternoon you will be able to experiment with coloured glass, dichroic glass and metal inclusions to create 2-3 pieces of jewellery such as a pendant and a pair of earrings. Bails and jewellery findings will be available to glue on to the finishes pieces. Nothing really!! - Maybe some general ideas, patterns and pictures for reference if you wish. All tools, equipment and materials for making 2-3 items of jewellery (extra items can be purchased on the day) Tea/Coffee & Biscuits Please wear closed toe shoes as we are dealing with glass! 5

6 Landscapes & Woodland in Mixed Media with John Connolly SATURDAY 14 th OCTOBER am-4.00pm 60 John Connolly John trained as an Art teacher at Doncaster and in Drama at Derby University. After teaching Art and Drama for several years, John became founder member and artistic director of Compact Theatre Company and acted professionally (as Harry Connolly) since John divides his time between painting, acting and writing, with a bias towards painting since In 2010 John became a full time artist working in his own studio, the Ormscliffe studio, in Bolsover. John exhibits his work in over 10 galleries throughout the UK. The main aim of this workshop will be to HAVE FUN and experiment with a combination of materials to create interesting marks and textures. Working on watercolour paper we will spend the morning experimenting with a wide number of materials including collage to find out "What happens IF"!! The subject matter we will work on in the afternoon will be landscapes and woodland so I suggest students bring a selection of photographs of landscapes, moorland, hedges, woodland in all seasons. Also, bring along any other interesting photos that may inspire you to look at textures such as unusual cloud formations etc. Selection of brushes (not sable), including large flat ones. Palette knives desirable but not essential. Large mixing palette plastic dinner trays, plates or old plastic chopping boards are brilliant!! Watercolour paints. A variety of acrylic paint colours. White acrylic ink (bring along other colours if you have them, don t buy specially!!) Watercolour paper (at least 200lbs but preferably 300 or 400lbs ) or old pieces of mount board. Pencil crayons, soft pencils or graphite sticks Netting from a bag of oranges! A Candle. Oil pastels, PVA Glue, Tissue paper, Sand, Other collage materials. Flicky brushes which will also be available for purchase. I will also have some heavy weight watercolour paper available for purchase at cost price. Arches : Aquarelle : 300lb : 640gsm : 22x30in : 56X76cm : 1 sheet is but can be cut into 4, 10 or 15pieces which should be enough to work on.
