You can choose from Design Source for a comprehensive range of exclusive designs and colours or design your own image using Customart. All Fusion Surfaces are custom-made in quantities of one sheet to thousands. But the benefits don t end there. And because Fusion Surfaces can be despatched to virtually any destination worldwide, you can take advantage of the infinite choice and possibilities Fusion Surfaces offer, no matter where you are in the world. 4 FUSION CUSTOMART If your aim is to create your own surface design, then Fusion Customart is for you. Your unique image or colour can be fused into a Fusion Laminate. Virtually anything can become a laminate surface from photographic images to textures, patterns, logos, symbols or text. Uptown at Ivy, Sydney DESIGN INSPIRATION How do you create a Fusion Customart design? First of all, you need to design it. Inspiration can come from anywhere. You may be inspired by something. You may have an idea already in your mind. Once we receive your digital file, we ll prepare a Customart laminate sample of your artwork of approximately 300mm x 300mm. Part of the image you choose will be at full size on the laminate sample. Your customart sample will usually be despatched by mail within 10 working days. Upon approval, you can order that design in a laminate grade of your choice by calling (within Australia) or (within New Zealand). 4

6 FUSION SOLIDS Often you can t find the laminate colour you re looking for. The Fusion Solids palette comprises a vast array of colours printed as CMYK 4 colour process (some restrictions apply). This process creates a fine colour stipple throughout the final laminate. Please note that certain dark colours are not possible. Check with your representative from The Laminex Group. 6

Please note: Pattern direction runs in line with the longest side of the sheet. Pattern Direction FUSION WET AREA PANELLING Fusion Wet Area Panelling can be used as wall linings in wet or dry areas. It is surfaced on both sides with a melamine resin for protection against warpage and moisture. It is highly resistant to scratching and staining, ideal for application in bathrooms, change rooms, toilets, buses, caravans, boats and showers. The Fusion Surfaces brand was developed with the aim to combine The Laminex Group s unrivalled knowledge and experience in high pressure laminate technology with the most advanced digital imaging to create an infinite range of laminate design opportunities. What are Fusion Laminates? Fusion Surfaces high pressure laminates are composed of layers of phenolic resin-impregnated kraft paper surfaced by a layer of fourcolour process digitally imaged paper and a translucent melamine overlay. These are assembled and consolidated at aproximately 1000psi pressure at temperatures exceeding 135ºC, creating an extremely durable laminate. What is the maximum sheet size for Fusion Laminates? The standard sheet size available is 12 x 4 (3600mm x 1200mm). Sheet sizes and print areas are: Normal size Maximum Print Area 3600mm x 1200mm 3595mm x 1195mm 2400mm x 1200mm* 2395mm x 1195mm *Optional Wet Area Panelling Size Please note that there is a 5mm white border surrounding the design. Who should fabricate Fusion Surfaces laminates? All fabrication should be carried out by qualified tradepersons in line with standard best practise. Please visit laminex.com.au for further information. What are the surface finish options for Fusion Surfaces laminates? Depending on the final grade of laminate chosen, there are 4 standard finishes. Natural - a fine, low sheen finish with minimal reflectance. Ideal for horizontal use and low reflectance vertical use. Gloss - a gloss finish. Recommended for vertical use only. Not recommended for horizontal use. Glaze - a fine textured medium sheen finish. Product specific vertical application only. 35

36 What is the lead time for a Fusion Customart sample? Samples are usually despatched back to you within 10 working days. What is the lead time for a Fusion Surfaces laminate order? Typically most orders are despatched within 21 working days from receipt of order. Do Fusion Surfaces need to be bonded to a substrate? Fusion Xtra Grade needs to be bonded to a moisture resistant substrate such as particleboard, MDF or plywood. Fusion Wet Area Panelling requires bonding to a timber stud frame wall. For more details on these products visit laminex.com.au. It is essential that all fabrication be carried out by qualified tradespeople in line with standard industry procedures. Where can Fusion Surfaces be applied? Fusion Surfaces are designed specifically for interior applications. This includes wall murals and panels, furniture and joinery, signage, bench tops, counters, cupboard doors, entry doors facings and table tops. Fusion Surfaces are equally at home in retail fitouts, cafés, exhibitions, schools, offices, hospitals and the home. The use of Fusion is limited only by your imagination. Are Fusion Surfaces suitable for exterior use? Whilst the performance of Fusion Surfaces is extremely good, it is not suitable for use externally. Fusion Surfaces products are only warranted for interior applications. If original Fusion Customart artwork is supplied for scanning, does the reproduction faithfully follow the artwork or will the colours change due to CMYK reproduction (4-colour process)? The final output of Fusion Customart design laminate is very close to the original artwork as long as scanning is at the highest resolution. Is it possible for instance, to take a picture of a landscape and reproduce it in laminate? Yes. Virtually any image can be reproduced in Fusion Customart. Are Fusion Customart files held for future reference? All Fusion Customart file are copied to CD and stored securely by The Laminex Group. The images remain the exclusive property of the designer and the CD is held as a reference for future repeat orders, only with permission from the designer. 36

37 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is it best for the designer to arrange their Fusion Customart work or for The Laminex Group to arrange it on their behalf? It is best to provide complete, fully formatted and approved designs to us, so that we can provide the fastest turnaround. Refer to the Fusion customart design specifications at laminex.com.au. Can 3D objects be scanned for Fusion Customart? No. If you want to reproduce a 3D object, you need to photograph it, then drum or flat bed scan a transparency. This will provide the highest quality result. Is it possible to create any solid colour in Fusion Customart? It is possible to closely match most colours. However, you need to be aware that the four-colour, CMYK system changes the final output colour of some solid colours. Also, dark solid colours are not available. Are Fusion Surfaces as durable as other laminates? Yes. In fact, Fusion Surfaces have been specifically designed for interior applications to give resilient surfaces of enduring appeal. Are Fusion Surfaces postformable? No, unfortunately you cannot postform Fusion Surfaces. Is it possible to create a one piece wall mural say 25m x 25m from Fusion Surfaces? Yes. It can be achieved by splitting an image into multiple tiles of laminate sheets. Special consideration should be given to the graphic design process as the image formatting needs to be constructed to allow image edges to evenly match up against each other. Who owns the copyright on a design incorporated into Fusion Customart? Design ownership resides with our specifier client or the originator of the design provided to the specifier with permission from the originator. Whoever provides us with the design is responsible for ensuring that permission for reproduction of that specific image has been granted. Is it best to scan a small or large piece of artwork? Any flat, clear artwork can be scanned. It must be within the maximum sizes of either the flatbed or drum scanner. All scanning should be done at the highest resolution to allow scale increases. Can Fusion Surfaces be purchased anywhere in the world? Yes, our vision is to be able to supply laminate to virtually any destination in the world. 37

38 What is the best surface finish for a wall mural? Natural finish has the lowest sheen level and reflects the least amount of light. Gloss surface finish brings out the best in colour and visual depth, but may reflect direct light. What is Fusion Xtra Grade? Fusion Xtra Grade is the standard grade of laminate. It is suitable for a wide range of applications such as table tops, counters and bench tops and always requires bonding to a suitable substrate for all applications. Colour Reproduction Although the pictures of the Fusion Surfaces designs set out on our website and this brochure are as accurate as we can make them, different computers offer different quality and standards of image and reproduction. As a result, we do not guarantee that the image which is produced in this brochure or on your computer will match the Fusion Surfaces product exactly and we will not be liable to you for any apparent differences when the Fusion Surfaces product has been manufactured in accordance with its specifications. However, we are able to provide you with standard colour details on each of our designs if you request it so you can understand what the Fusion Surfaces product will look like. Although you don t always have to have a sample of the design before we fulfill your order, we strongly recommend that you do order a sample. 38
