1 Next Meeting August 25 th No Meeting in September President s Message Wow, summer seems to be coming to a close and it was only yesterday that spring was on the horizon! Seriously, it does seem like only yesterday that we started planning the quilt show and now it is just a month away. It was exciting to see everyone turning in their quilt show entries. I can t wait to see them hanging. I know there is much to do in this last month and I wanted to give a big thank you to all our wonderful members. To make the show a success, it takes the help of everyone and LMQG members are truly outstanding. Don t forget that we will meet again on Monday, August 25 at the regular time. That allows the show committees to have a final time with all our members to clean up any last minute details and all of us to have a little extra time to finish our quilts. Keep on stitching, Shirley 1

3 Quilt Show Information Guild Members, We are now down to days before our show and here are some last minute reminders: **Be sure to attach the paper entry slip from your entry registration to the back of your quilt entries--you will be making a trip home to do this if you forget!!!! This ensures that you receive your correct quilt upon pickup--save your pickup slip to take on Saturday evening after the show To claim your quilt. **Your Guild Name Tag will allow you admission to our show--you must have this on even if you are working. It will be necessary to have your name tag with you each time you re-enter the show. Different people working different days require you have your name tag. Please cooperate with this request. We are looking forward to a Grand 2014 Festival of Quilts. I know each of you will do your part to make this event outstanding! We have 206 quilts entered and having them hanging will be a JOY!! Let's have a good show and a good time presenting our show to the public!!! Thanks to each of you who have committed as a committee chair to work this show!! You are appreciated!! Carolyn Harris Donations for Rosa Clark Medical Clinic Please remember to bring your unexpired/unused cosmetic samples, shampoos, conditioners, other hair items, combs, socks, toothbrushes, toothbrushes, deodorants, shaving cream foam, razors, work gloves, perfume samples, bath wash, soaps, lotions, creams, small tissue packs, and anything else practical that you can think of for the patients (all adults) at the Rosa Clark Medical Clinic. I will place boxes outside the entry at the October and November meetings to collect your items. Anything you can donate is sincerely appreciated. The Girl Scouts will help us package the items into gift bags for giving to the patients during the month of December. This has become a tradition our patients look forward to during the Christmas Season, and we couldn't do it without YOU! Our guild members are most generous and the patients are always thankful. Please call Maeve Binder at if you have any questions (after 10 a.m. please). 3

4 October Program Amy Stewart Winsor Program - Confessions of a Precision Impaired Quilter - October 6 Amy Stewart Winsor is a quilt artist and instructor from Morrisville, North Carolina who doesn t measure, doesn t make templates, avoids matching corners, never plans ahead, and usually fudges the rules. Her workshops are especially directed toward Precision-Impaired Quilters like herself. In many of her quilts, free motion quilting made of cursive writing tells stories and messages all over the quilt. Amy teaches techniques that don't require precision, including crooked log cabin, crazy quilting, fusible applique, curvaceous piecing, and creative finishing and embellishing methods. Her goal is to help all you precision-impaired quilters to find the techniques that you enjoy, so you can spend your quilting time frolicking in the fabric instead of stressing out. Work Shop - Playtime Neighborhood in Fusible Applique October 7 Learn how to create your own original houses, inspired by the houses on Amy s award-winning Make An Appointment quilt.. You will learn the childlike ways to draw houses with curvy roofs, funny crooked doors and windows, and loads of embellishments to make them charming. You will learn to use fusible webbing, fabric, embroidery and numerous embellishment to make houses, and how to use them in whimsical quilts. You will see numerous examples from Amy s quilts. Also, learn how to make Amy s Haphazard Piecing for the background. You will create several fusible appliqué houses of your own design. Take them home and satin stitch by machine later to sew them down to a background and make a little neighborhood. No sewing machines will be used during class. 4

5 November Program Gail Sexton Program - Designing the Quilt Border- November 3 Gail is one of our own who not only makes wonderful quilt tops, but also quilts beautifully. (And I do mean beautifully!) She s been quilting for many years and has lots of quilts and information to share. Workshop - Machine Quilting - November 4 Gail will share her skills in machine quilting. Her quilting is amazing and (I ve heard) she s a wonderful teacher. GAIL SEXTON S MACHINE QUILTING WORKSHOP SUPPLY LIST Sewing machine in good working order able to drop feed dogs Free motion foot and walking foot for machine Six sandwiches of muslin and batting inches by 14 inches Size 80 sewing machine needle Thread: Bottom Line thread in neutral color or another brand of 60 weight thread (will be used for both the top thread and the bobbin thread); *If you cannot bring this thread weight, bring the lightest weight thread you have available.
