3 LION BRAND stitch markers LION BRAND large-eyed blunt needle Gauge: 28 sc + 34 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to match the gauge, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. Stitch Explanation: Sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook 1 st decreased. NOTES: 1. Scarf is worked in wedge shaped sections changing color following the Color Sequence. The wedges are shaped by scs, hdcs, dcs and trs. 2. The Scarf is not difficult to make, but it is very important that you read the instructions for each row carefully and that you keep track of which row you are on! 3. To change color, work the last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st. Fasten off old color. 4. Long beginning and ending yarn tails are left when changing color. These yarn tails will be used to join the Bobbles to the Scarf. Yarn tails should be about 10 in. (25.5 cm) long. Color Sequence: Work *2 rows with A, 2 rows with B, 2 rows with C, 2 rows with D, 2 rows with E, 2 rows with F, 2 rows with G, 2 rows with H, 2 rows with I, 2 rows with J, 2 rows with K; rep from * for Color Sequence. Scarf With A and leaving a 10 in. (25.5 cm) long beginning yarn tail, ch 64. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 14 ch, hdc in next 16 ch, dc in last 16 ch tr in next 16 ch 63 sts. Place a marker in the beg of this row to mark the Bobble side of the Scarf. Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as first tr in this row and in all following rows), turn, tr in next 15 tr, dc in next 16 dc, hdc in next 16 hdc, sc in next 15 sc. Leaving long beg and ending yarn tails, change to B. Row 3: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in first 15 sts, hdc in next 16 sts, dc in next 16 sts, tr in last 16 sts. Row 4: With B, ch 4, turn, tr in next 15 sts, dc in next 15 sts, hdc in next 16 sts, sc in last 15 sts. Leaving long beg and ending yarn tails, change to C. Rows 5-22: Rep Rows 3 and 4 nine times, continuing to change color following Color Sequence and leaving long beg and ending yarn tails each time you change color. At the end of Row 22, fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Note: Rows do NOT need long beg and ending yarn tails. Row 23: Join A with a sl st in top of first tr of last row, ch 1, sc in first 15 sts, hdc in next 16 sts, dc in next 16 sts, tr in last 16 sts. Row 24: Rep Row 2.

4 Rows 25-44: Rep Rows 3 and 4 ten times, continuing to change color following Color Sequence, and remembering that long yarn tails are not needed. Fasten off. Note: Rows will need long (about 10 in. [25.5 cm]) beg and ending yarn tails. Row 45: Leaving a long beg yarn tail, join A with a sl st in top of first tr of last row. With A, rep Row 3. Row 46: With A, rep Row 4. Rows 47-66: Rep Rows 3 and 4 ten times, continuing to change color following Color Sequence and leaving long beg and ending yarn tails. Rows : Rep Rows once. Rows : Rep Rows Rows : Rep Rows twice. Fasten off. At the end of Row 220, you should have worked a total of ten wedge shaped sections. The long yarn tails will all be on one side (the Bobble side) of the Scarf. Finishing Bobbles (make 63 3 with A, and 6 with each of B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K) Ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with sl st in first sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc 16 sc at the end of this rnd. Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc2tog) 8 times; join with sl st in first st 8 sts. Fasten off. Cut yarn, leaving a 10 in. (25.5 cm) long ending yarn tail. Joining Bobbles to Scarf Note: Along the marked side edge of the Scarf you have 5 groups of long yarn tails. Begin joining Bobbles at the end of Scarf with A yarn tails. First Group of Bobbles With the yarn tail of one Bobble A, ch for 2 in. (5 cm). With one A yarn tail from Scarf, sl st down Bobble ch until you reach the Bobble. Fasten off. With the yarn tail of one Bobble B, ch for 2 in. (5 cm). With one A yarn tail from Scarf, sl st down Bobble ch until you reach the Bobble. Fasten off. Continue to join Bobbles in the same way to the remaining yarn tails in this group as follows: Join one C Bobble with one B yarn tail from Scarf. Join one D Bobble with one C yarn tail from Scarf. Join one E Bobble with one D yarn tail from Scarf. Join one F Bobble with one E yarn tail from Scarf. Join one G Bobble with one F yarn tail from Scarf. Join one H Bobble with one G yarn tail from Scarf. Join one I Bobble with one H yarn tail from Scarf. Join one J Bobble with one I yarn tail from Scarf.

Second Group of Bobbles Attach Bobbles B-K to third wedge shaped (second group of long yarn tails on Bobble side of Scarf) same as in first group of Bobbles. Third Group of Bobbles Attach Bobbles B-K and A-K to fifth and sixth wedge shaped sections (third group of long yarn tails on Bobble side of Scarf) same as in first group of Bobbles. Row 7: Ch 1, turn, sk first st, sc in next st, sk next st, dc in next st, sk next st, sc in next st, sk last st, sl st in edge of last row worked. Fasten off. Second Earflap Row 1 (RS): From RS, sk 14 unworked sts following first earflap across front of Helmet. Working through both loops across opposite side of foundation ch, join B with sc in next foundation ch, sc in next 11 ch; leave rem sts unworked 12 sc. Rows 2-7: Work same as Rows 2-7 of first earflap. Fasten off. Finishing Edging From RS, join B with sl st anywhere along lower edge of Hat, sl st evenly around lower edge of Helmet and earflaps. Fasten off. Pom-poms With B, and following package directions, make a large pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Helmet. With A, make 2 medium size pom-poms. Cut 6 in. (15 cm) lengths of B and use lengths to tie one medium pom-pom to each earflap. Weave in ends.
