We used design # LHRTS103 for a 5 x 7 (130mm x 180mm) hoop, but design # LHRTS102 may be used for a 4 x 4 (100mm x 100mm) hoop Supplies needed: Embroidery machine with a 5 7 (130mm 180mm) hoop or 4 x 4 (100mm x 100mm) hoop ¼ yard polyester or nylon organza fabric Wash-away nonwoven stabilizer Assortment of Madeira rayon embroidery threads see color chart included on CD or select your own thread colors Bobbin wound with embroidery bobbin thread Stencil cutting tool Craft/fabric glue Sachet filling, such as lavendar ¹/8 wide ribbon, length This sachet has an intricate embroidery design on the front, and a more simplified design on back. Read all instructions before beginning. Instructions: 1. Prepare and hoop fabric. Cut two approximately 9 x 12½ rectangles of wash-away nonwoven stabilizer, or use pre-cut sheets of the same size, and one approximately 9 x 12½ rectangle of organza. Hoop organza fabric and wash-away nonwoven stabilizer sandwiching the organza fabric between two layers of the stabilizer and hoop as one fabric. Continued on page 2
2 2. Embroider sachet front. Embroider color 1 in full. Embroider only the centered upper eyelet for color 2 for the ribbon hanger: advance to approximately stitch 3575 prior to the eyelet and start embroidering, stop embroidering after the eyelet at approximately stitch Advance to thread color 3 and embroider the remainder of the design, trimming jump stitches as you embroider. 3. Embroider sachet back. Prepare another hooping of stabilizer and organza following step 1. Repeat Step 2 for sachet back OR embroider only the centered upper eyelet of Color 2, following step 2, and then advance to Color 8, and embroider the outer satin stitch color. 4. Remove excess stabilizer. After embroideries are complete, remove excess stabilizer following manufacturer s directions. Allow the embroidered fabric to dry almost completely. While the embroidery is slightly damp, press the piece, face down, on a towel, covering fabric with a press cloth. Pressing the hearts dry will keep them flat. 2
3 5. Remove excess organza. Use a stencil cutting tool to cut the hearts from the organza base fabric. The heated tip of the tool actually melts the synthetic fabric, so it is best to use a natural fiber thread such as rayon, cotton, or silk for the embroidery. Use the point of the stencil cutting tool to open the eyelet center, if needed. 6. Begin assembly of the sachet. Place sachet front right side down on the work surface. Apply a skinny line of glue to the bobbin thread area of the outer satin stitched edge. Note: Only glue three-quarters of the heart perimeters together at this time. Leave one-quarter of the heart unglued Position the sachet back over the front, aligning the edges and finger press the glued edges together. 3
4 Hold together with clips or clothespins to hold them together while the glue dries; allow glue to dry completely. 7. Complete the Lacy Heart Sachet. Pour or spoon desired amount of sachet filling into the sachet cavity. Carefully seal the sachet opening with a line of glue to the bobbin thread. Hold together with clips or clothespins while the glue dries; allow glue to dry completely. 4
5 8. Add a ribbon hanger. Cut a length of ribbon. Thread through both eyelets and knot ribbon ends together for loop hanger.
