1 Epic Club: 2016 November/December Embroidered Jacket The Contemporary Kimono Jacket is a two-part class. Class 1: Make a sample of the embroidery with the colors chosen, and a piping sample. Begin the cuffs and neckline. Class 2: Finish cutting out and putting the jacket together Selection of fabrics: The jacket may be made from denim, chino, linen, cotton, some cotton/poly or any fabric that will wash and not be stretchy or drape loosely. Do Not choose knits, stretchy, or light weight fabrics. See below for the sizing of this pattern. Measure your bust and purchase the pattern for your bust measurement. When taking the measurement, we usually have three fingers under the tape. It is not a tight to the skin measurement. DO NOT PURCHASE THE SIZE YOU BUY IN READY MADE GARMENTS AT THE STORE IT IS NOT THE SAME. Prior to Class: Make sure you have all the items below cut prior to class especially the practice pieces to save time. 1. Wash and press your fabric. 2. If desired, trace your pattern onto a thin paper to save the original. (This works well when having to adjust the pattern) I purchase the rolls of paper used by doctors for the examination table which most medical supply stores keep in stock. It runs about $8.00 for 21 x 225 yards depending on where you find it. Tissue paper also works, but is thinner. Just tape sheets together. 3. Only cut the four pieces mentioned below. DO NOT CUT THE BACK, FRONT, & SLEEVES UNTIL WE TALK IN CLASS AND SEE IT YOUR PATTERN NEEDS ADJUSTMENTS. 4. Iron Sheer Magic to the back of the pieces cut below following the directions. This will also act as the interfacing so you will not need to purchase interfacing. It will also allow for a beautiful embroidery. Supplies: Embroidery machine, foot pedal, power cord, manual, and accessories. Fabric: o The fabric amounts are below for View A and B. The sample is View A. Purchase 1/2 yard extra for practice of techniques and embroideries. o Piping Fabric: Bring a fabric that matches the threads you have chosen. You will need approximately (3) 2 ½ inch strips the width of the fabric for your practice and final project. If you are not sure of the color, bring a scrap to practice on and purchase the fabric after class. Interfacing: See amounts below under interfacing. Sheer Magic will be ironed on the pieces to be embroidered. o Practice: Put Sheer Magic on the back of the practice 7 x 20-inch piece. (Used to practice the neckline) o Cut the neckband to 7 inches rather than the six of the pattern. In other words, add an inch to the length and width of the band. We will trim later. o Cut a 3 ½ piece of Sheer Magic to go on the neckband, but do not iron it on until class.

2 o Cuff: Cut the four cuffs in the following manner. Cut two cuffs 1 inch larger than the pattern all the way around and two cuffs to actual size. Iron Sheer Magic to the two larger cuffs. However, cut the Sheer Magic to the size of the actual size of the cuffs, not the larger size. You should have about an inch all around that is not covered with Sheer Magic. o Cut one 2 ½ x 20 strip of fabric to practice the piping technique no interfacing on this piece. Hoops: Either endless hoop may be used or the 240 x 150 Feet: Sensor Q foot, A foot, Mini Piping Foot. Stabilizer: Stitch and Tear for the endless hoops or lightweight Tear-a-Way for the regular hoop. Piping: Piping Hot Piping Cording (I will have some for you to purchase in class until Patty has it in stock.) Piping Hot Trimming Tool Rotary Cutter & 3 x 18 ruler Threads: o Embroidery Threads: The embroidery has four colors. The sample used three. It would also be beautiful in two or monochromatic. Bring four and decide how many you want to use in your jacket with the practice sample. Also, embroidery bobbin thread either white or black depending on your fabric. o Sewing Threads: Sewing thread to coordinate with your basic fabric color along with a bobbin on the same. Needles/ Both embroidery #90 and sewing #80 & 90. Size Chart for these patterns
