1 2015 and 2016 Grand Traverse County Road Commission Progress Report and Forecast Our Mission is to upgrade and maintain a safe and efficient road system

2 We are making a difference! Miles of roads in GT County: approximately 1, Rating of roads in GT County : Less than 40% were considered fair to good condition Asset Management Plan Developed 2013 set a goal of 80% of roads being rated fair to good in 20 years or less based on an annual investment of $4.5 million per year

3 We are making a difference! 2013 we asked the voters to consider a millage proposal: it generates approximately $3.5 million per year..this was the catalyst to achieve our goal 2014 Project Budget: approximately $5.6 million 2015 Project Budget: approximately $10 million 2016 Project Budget: approximately $11 million 2015 Rating of roads in GT County: currently 54% are considered fair to good condition

10 2015 Project Highlight #2 LaFranier Road Spent 3-4 years trying to fund the project Projected cost: approximately $2.3 million Secured PRIP Funds from the state in 2014 for $1.1 million Partnered with Grand Traverse County and Garfield Township for $740,000 GTCRC (millage) was approximately $460,000 This would be our first complete streets project

11 2015 Project Highlight #2 LaFranier Road Reconstructed the intersection of LaFranier, S. Airport and Barlow Reduced the hill from a 12.5 % slope down to a 8.5% slope (added retaining walls) Reconstructed the road from S. Airport to Hammond Added a center turn lane from the top of the hill to Hammond Added paved shoulders (5 ) both sides of the road Added sidewalk from S. Airport to the residential areas Added two bus turn-outs

13 Lessons learned from 2015 Projects Project coordination with neighboring agencies is critical Communication with the public is super critical Contract improvements..there are areas we d like to tighten up We ll be evaluating products we used over the next 1-2 years Reaffirmed we get a bigger bang for the buck with negotiated pricing on General Fund projects compared to Federal Aid projects
