2 Brilliance DIAMOND K-Series and G-Series lasers feature Brilliance, a combination of mode quality, peak power, and optical rise-and-fall times. With Brilliance, DIAMOND lasers perform the same tasks as lasers whose continuous-wave (CW) output power is two to three times greater. Brilliance also allows faster and cleaner materials processing than lasers of comparable power. The first characteristic of Brilliance is mode quality. The better a beam s mode quality, the smaller its focused spot. A smaller focused spot results in faster and cleaner processing. The instantaneous power of a laser pulse is the second characteristic of Brilliance. A DIAMOND laser whose average output power is 500W has a peak power of over 1.5 kw. The result is faster ablation of materials. Third, superior optical rise-and-fall times measure how quickly the laser s optical pulse reaches full power and then shuts-off. Short rise-and-fall times create a square-wave pulse profile that generates a smaller heat-affected zone (HAZ) in the processed material. Fast and efficient cooling of the lasing gas mixture in the GEM-Series eliminates the need to continuously circulate consumable gas through the cavity. Material processing is efficient, cuts and drilled holes are clean, and the heataffected zone (HAZ) is minimal. DIAMOND lasers also feature a set of unique characteristics called Brilliance. Brilliance is a small spot size, high-peak power, and fast rise-time high-frequency pulses. DIAMOND lasers with Brilliance allows faster materials processing while using less power. Using RF-excited, slab-discharge and diffusion-cooling technologies, K-Series and G-Series lasers deliver high-frequency pulsed output and high average-power in a compact, no-maintenance package. Easy installation on moving gantries or within compact materials-processing stations. Slab-discharge technology uses two rectangular plate electrodes to create an efficient, high-power laser that is remarkably robust and compact. For example, a typical 500-watt DIAMOND slab-discharge laser measures only 11 x 9.5 x 47 in. (27.9 x 24 x cm). Selective material removal for precision processing applications. Removing adjacent materials having different ablation thresholds is critically important in applications such as printed circuit board manufacturing. DIAMOND RF amplifiers distribute the energy within a single pulse, or series of pulses, enhancing selective material removal. Thus, it is possible to drill holes in dielectric or polymer materials to a controlled depth, without causing collateral heat-induced damage to an underlying layer. Pulse Tailoring Up to 25,000 hours of continuous, maintenance-free operation lowers the cost of ownership. In slab-discharge lasers, the permanently confined lasing gas mixture functions for up to 25,000 hours (>2 years). Brilliance makes fast materials processing possible. In many applications, K-Series lasers process materials as fast as multi-kilowatt systems. And, far more efficiently and economically. K-Series lasers also feature output wavelengths of either 9.4 or 10.6 microns. G-Series Lasers For simple and flexible integration. Designed for systems integrators, DIAMOND G-Series lasers provide all the benefits of the K-Series in a lower power, low-cost, OEM configuration. To simplify integration and further reduce the size of the G-Series, the head and power supply is manufactured as a single unit. The integrated RF power supply and laser tube can be oriented vertically or horizontally. A built-in optical rail (a component mounting structure) allows beam delivery assemblies and electro-optic accessories to be mounted directly on the laser.
